BUCK 110's for $23.00

Finally found some of the Bucks in tins at a Walmart about 35 miles from home, and picked up 5. One for each of my 2 son in laws, and one for each of my 2 brother in laws for Christmas. Guess who gets the 5th one? :)

Impeccable logic my friend. I used the same logic myself, except I picked up a Case Hammerhead at Lowe's for about $20 for one son-in-law..........guess I will have to keep two 110s! :D

Second, even if they run out just take the Academy ad to Walmart and they will match the price. I bought one at Academy (for a gift) so it would have the leather sheath that 99% of the world likes. Then I bought one from Walmart for me because I prefer the non-corrosive and sleeker nylon (or whatever it is) sheath. They matched the price on their regular stock with the "good" nylon sheath, not the gift box with the cheaper one.
Carl, thanks for the good idea. Today was the last day of the Academy sale--at least according to the sale flyer I had. They might run the special longer, I guess.

Anyway, I went to Walmart and picked up 3 Buck 110s with the nylon sheaths--all price-matched to the sale flyer, all with the thicker nylon sheaths. Nice presents this year.

Now that it's over, I am wishing I bought more than 2. I have to send at least one in for a new fancy blade. Still the gift tins I guess...

And here they are...Pg 14 of the Weekly Ad...

http://academysports.com/

It says "Good...through 12/10/05"... :D

And here's the ad...

Wow. $18.63. That's $3 cheaper than I got them at my Academy on sale. Pricing must be a regional thing.

For that price, I would have bought one more. :D

I plugged my zip code into the site and it said that there are no stores within a 250 mile radius of where I live. :(

Wal-Mart is advertising price matching...print out that sale ad, take it in to WallyWorld and see what they say...Someone in another thread has done it, but mentioned that you may have to page a sales manager...

Several threads going here at once on the 110's at various places; people do seem to be getting price-matching, and even retroactive refunds for 110's they paid $23 for...

be very carfull when buying knives at wally world
i bought a nice buck assist open there it was real good for quality
so i thought a stockman would be alright to (also buck) but it was
made overseas

I went to my local Wally World and took the Academy sale ad in but they would not honor it since it was not in the same city as this Wal-Mart was. He said that the Wal-Marts there would honor it but he couldn't. It's only a 30 min. drive further down the road but I just don't have the time. What about those individuals that don't have an Academy within 250 miles? Anyone else have any problems like this?

Well, I bought 5 of the $23.44 Buck 110s at wally world. Also bought a Buck 186 on close-out for $17.00. I have been using it for EDC lately and LOVE it! :D I finally broke out a 110 and decided I would carry it when I have occasion. It is shaving sharp and a nice fit in the hand. It is the first 110 I have owned. It is a better fit in my hand than my beloved Schrade LB7.
The cutting dynamics of the blade looks better than the Schrade. The LB7 is a little too thick. The main reason I have stayed away from Bucks, (I only have 7 counting the last two I picked up, and not counting the three 110s I bought for gifts), is the hardness of the blades. In the 1980's I ran a cutlery store and had a number of customers complain about the blades being too hard to sharpen. I even had one customer claim he had dropped a Buck fixed blade on a rock and broke it into 3 or 4 pieces. Has anyone ever heard of this before?
I have no complaints about the Bucks I own, some for as long as 30 years in the case of my 102.
At any rate I had a black leather Buck sheath for my new 110, but I may even use the nylon sheath that came with it as it is less bulky. I guess I am transitioning from a Schrade fan to a Buck fan as Buck is one of the few USA made quality knives left, and of course, they are now located here in the Pacific Northwest! :D
I go through Post Falls 2 or 3 times a year on my way to visit a daughter in MT. I am going to have to time it right so I can take a factory tour. :D
I gave my step-son one of the 110s for his birthday yesterday.......he loved it! I think I will give one each to my two nephews who are in the Navy.

I was out there getting a key made tonight and decided to pick one up. Who can resist a 110 for $24?

The tin is actually pretty nice, much nicer than I expected (those commerative things are usually a little too frilly for my tastes. And I like the little key chain included, though I probably won't carry it around just for the fact that it's a little heavy.

The knife is absolutely beautiful. The scales are a little darker than my other 2005 110. They're actually about the same color (though a lot nicer looking) than the scales on my old no dot, three line 110 (1973).

One complaint I have, and it's the same complaint I had about my other 2005 110. It's not sharp! Fortunately, the grinds are perfectly centered and even, so it'll take me about 10 minutes to put an edge on it, but not something I expect from Buck, especially on two new knives. The 301 I bought over the summer was scary sharp out of the box, but both of these 110s leave a little to be desired.

No worries though and certainly nothing to be upset about... this is why I have benchstones and a Sharpmaker.

Has anyone in the Indianapolis Indiana area been able to locate these at a local Wal-Mart? I am having a heck off a time finding one.

Thanks,
Matt

In the store, you mean??? There should be a large cardboard display, somewhere near the Sporting goods cash register (probably within sight), with the sandine-can Buck 110's in it. Entirely separate from the regular knife display. I had to ask, and the nice girl showed me. :D

Thanks chickentrax,

I've checked 3 local Wal-Marts so far and couldn't find any. I was so desperate that I bought one of the 29.97 110s from the case (still not too shabby).

I will check another one near my office on lunch today. Hopefully I'll turn up a few.

I've seen the tins in two different places. At one Walmart, they were in a special display rack (holiday sales) near the sporting goods counter. Another Walmart had them over in the aisles along with normally stocked inventory. You just have to peer and prod, I guess.
