BUCK 110's for $23.00

I guess i missed the detailed discussion about the sheaths but i carried mine in the cheapo sheath for several days now and the good thing about it is that it stiffened up and took on the contours of the knife and since it is thin it is even less noticeable than any of the other types so instead of buying a leather sheath i will use this one till it wears out. I looks like it is made of the same fabric as outdoor tents

Came home and found one of these new $23 110's on my desk. I just had to test it out. I've read sooo much about how bad 420hc is that I had to do this.
I cut 70 pieces of 4 inch truck strap out of the box. This piece of strap has been used on several knives, including a Small Sebenza with S30V. It only cut 24. My previous high on this strap was a 442 at 47 cuts. The next time some one calls 420 hc "bottom of the barrel" I'm going to link to this post.
Also see the new sheath.

I guess I was absent the day this was taught...what's truck strap???

(funny...I drove a truck for two years in the military...never heard of this) :D

I guy at work took two of the WalMart 110's to his lease for opening day of deer season. He gave one to each of his lease partners. They both had birthdays in November.

It's the web strapping we use to tie down loads with. Chains are not always feasable. Watch flatbed trucks, you'll see quickly what it is. A new one provides as good a testing median as rope or anything else we use to test. The trick is consistancy. This strap was 30 feet long, that's quite a few cuts at 1 inch ea.

One of the Chinese ones? Is it easy to unlock, or does it require the strength of Hulk like mine?
No, it opens as easy as my Buck 110s. In fact if you lay side by side, they look so much the same. But found out it doesn't cut as well at work today but could be the steeper angle sharpened at. Stay sharp.

Update... after testing the new knife, I used it to cut steaks for the Barby. Then used to cut my meal. Resharpening took about 5 minutes ( literally) on the Sharpmaker.

From what I understand, the knife is made in the USA the rest is made in China.

If anyone still wears hats, I noticed the Walmart here has Buck Knives hats. I forget the price. So if you like hats and are going to pick up a $23 110, well, you can figure it out.

I picked one up a couple of years ago for 9.95. Still wear it.

Which drives home the point that good edge geometry (and the Buck 110 has it!) and heat treatment really do matter.

Last night I was using the 110 I snagged at Dick's a couple of weeks ago for the similar price (still waiting for my rebate, though!) and I am impressed with how long it continued to cut stuff even though it didn't "feel" sharp.

Is it blasphemy to say that it outcuts my VG10-blade Spyderco Endura?

It's just the sheaths they are talking about. All 110's are made in the US. Buck just moved their factory from California to Idaho this year, so your 110 could have been made in either location. Most dealers probably have new ones by now, but it's possible an old one might still be in stock. Both are just as good, and if they didn't use a different date mark each year you wouldn't even be able to tell which is which.

Some of the new knives (mostly small ones) are made in China and Taiwan.

Went to WalMart today. The $23 110s are all gone.:( Guess I should have done that Christmas shopping sooner.

What about ebay ? I got mine from there.

You could check Gander Mountain. They probably still have them for $29.99 with a $10 mail-in rebate. That includes a leather sheath in the blister pack.

I bought two of the 110 tins at Wal-Mart a few days ago. One for myself, even though I already own a few Buck 110s, and one to donate as a door prize at our Emergency Services Banquet. I have left the plastic on the prize tin but the one I bought for myself I am very happy with. The knife is great. The sheath is a bit lame but usable. And I rather like the bottle opener/key ring. Opens my beer bottles very well. :D

Matt,
I just got back from Walmart in the wee hours of this morning, (fewer old ladies to dodge, just have to dodge the freight in the aisles), and they had a whole bunch of 110's in their sale aisle. I bought the last one on display a week or two ago, but now they must have had 30 or 40 of them on a shelf with a bunch of 'men's gift items' back by the tools. So........I bought a couple more! Great price on an honest-to-goodness American made knife.
I hope you can find one!

Dale

Academy sports has a great sale on 110's according to today's newspaper ad. Has a regular sheath too.
