Buck 124's comparison photo???

The links that Trax provided showed the older 124 with two different sheaths. Does anyone know which one came first, when they switched, etc.?

Mike - I've been trying to decypher Joe Housers' 122/124 article that jb4570 mentioned above [Thanks jb4570!]...Joe mentions the different sheath styles..."swinging" leather sheath is last mentioned in 1973...

I have no idea what a "snoopy" sheath is...(youth model of 124???)...

I'm thinking that this 124 pictured above (the one by me - upside down) is a 1973...but I'm still trying to understand Joe's breakdown...I'm sure it's crystal clear to him; I'm the one who is confused...

I'll post a pic or two if it ever arrives (recalling Mav's swindle)...

Trax
The current sheath style is the ‘snoopy sheath’. If you open up the retaining strap and hold it flat it looks like snoopy’s profile.

Ya know what Will? You're right.
I just checked.
Who was smokin' what when they thought of that?

Left to right 1967 no logo on the snap,1969 BUCK stamped on the snap , 1970 swival belt loop ,1988 ,1985
There are over 12 variations of 122/ 124 Nemo leather sheaths that I have
observed.I am making as close to accurate list on sheaths and boxes for 122/124 ,it is in the early stages now.
There are 3 variations of the plastic Nemo sheath.
Maybe someone else has a better list.

Well, the 124, box, and sheath just arrived... :)

It is shown here compared to my [newer] 120...

It is indeed a full-tang, black linen Micarta slabbed, early model. But it does have the snoopy sheath, so I'm still not sure what year it may be...

It has the two-piece grips, full tang, one-piece guard but two-piece pommel with two pommel rivets. The three-line tang stamp is very lightly struck as compared to my 120/119.

Very nice specimen, even if, as 334dave says, it was overpriced. ;)

It is my new favorite Buck...

My Fez also came in...I will post a pic of me in that with the next knife I get... :D

I only have one 124. It's a LE with mirror finish. Want one that I would EDC.
I don't have the fez, but have the fez knife...I will have to get the fez to complete the "feel".

Very nice Trax,
The older 124's are my favorite Buck fixed blade knife. That one you just got is in very nice condition.....and it looks sweet with your 120!!!!!

A real beauty Trax! Enjoy!
BTW, regarding those pommel rivets, here's some info that Joe posted a while back that thought you might find interesting.

MikeO,
The knife with the black handle was probably made after 1973 and before 1982. In 1982 we switched to impregnated birchwood, the reddish color you saw. There is a chance that your black handled knife is earlier than 1973. Hold the knife with the point at the roof and the edge on your right. Locate the 2 butt rivets. Draw an imaginary line throught them. If the line is leaning to the left, the guard and butt are aluminum and the knife was made after 1973. If the line is leaning towards the right, the guard and butt are stainless and the knife was made from 1971 to 1973.
I know that was probably more than you ever wanted to know about the 124 but i was in the mood to type!

Take care,

Here is an old 124. It has the swing type sheath. It's a user....I got off ebay...for free :)

Just thought I'd post this for comparison...It struck me as odd that the 120 would have a longer blade than the 124... :)
