Buck's Kustom Knife Shop IS still OPEN!

I wonder what our reaction would be if our new custom shop pieces came from China at the "old" prices?

Buyers into collectors......at the new prices....not hardly.

My collecting/buying days appear to be rapidly coming to an end.

Semi forced retirement a limited fixed income and fuel and food prices will effective put a stop to any future custom shop purchases for me, as well as the predicted price increases as word gets out.

Same here. :(

I've never posted in the BladeForums, so a quick intro. I'm David Visnack, the VP of Marketing at Buck Knives. I oversee all the Product, Marketing, E-commerce, and Warranty activity for Buck Knives.

After reading the threads associated with the Buck CKS it's clear that many of you are upset by the new pricing. This is understandable since the pricing has been set 2X higher on the website than what it should be. When we add product to our website we enter the prices at wholesale and the site automatically recalculates to retail pricing. The prices for handles and blades were entered at retail, so the site has automatically, albeit inaccurately, doubled the prices on the CKS. Typically we would have caught this error but our E-commerce group has been in transition and I neglected to check the site when the CKS went live. We are looking to correct this problem ASAP and I truly apologize for the inconvenience and the sticker shock. Our goal at Buck is not to create stratospheric pricing, but rather to deliver reliable value.

If you purchased a knife at 2x inflated pricing, a customer service representative will contact you personally to remedy the situation.

Best Regards,

David Visnack

If this is one of the infamous jerks who inhabit Bladeforums.com and who can readily be found in the monthly "Walking The Plank" thread, then this post is a tasteless and cruel joke...

Trax, like you, I am very suspicious as well. I would have anticipated something like this, if real, to come from either Chuck or CJ, or even Joe. If you're right, there cannot be a plank too short or water too deep!

Edit: Joe left this site today almost exactly at 7 pm CST (5 pm Buck time) without a word on this, and I would think that if a decision of this sort had been made, it would have been made prior to that time and would have been delivered by Joe. He is, afterall, the head of customer relations, a position I would think would over-ride this guy's position. In addition, his statement that he oversees warranty activity is particularly troublesome.

Let's heat up the tar anyway.

Either way this goes......I can make a case for it.

:D

Roc, he's all yours and I am absolutely convinced of your ability to make a case either way this goes. Just promise me that you will torture him on-line here for at least a week first. ;) Back to bed for the second time.

I am glad this all got cleared up! Now we are back to the "working mans" prices ;)

...Yep...This is the finest time to have a bunch of people shell out some hard earned dollars to stock up on Custom knives. This is also one of the best economic times I can remember to do so with our dollar doing so well and oil being so reasonable...Go for it aza...I'll eventually be thinking Sebenzas are cheap too...

Well Darryl, I had suggested that maybe Buck offer a discount to bladeforum members so that they could get the Buck custom knives they were interested in at pre-change prices...to soften the blow of jacking up prices.

You obviously didn't think that was a good idea but it looks like Buck disagreed with you...they in fact have offered a discount so that people can "stock" up.

And judging on the amount of custom shop orders based on postings on this forum alone...it looks like pretty much everyone else disagreed as well.

I myself just ordered a fiji orangewood.

Maybe you should order one too while the "discount" is available. :)

Here's what I originally posted.

This would help to alleviate the bitter feelings of long time customers (imagine the guys who were trying to buy while the site was down and they find this happened) and it would get them the knives they were wanting at a great price...possible a HUGE influx of orders for Buck because the customers would know that they have only a month or so to get them at the old prices.

I personally think that this is a fair option. It's definitely Buck's choice on what to price their products, however it was definitely a bad move to make such a HUGE increase in price without any notification to loyal customers.

If you guys think that it's a good idea, why don't you email Buck with this option. Maybe they will hear and possibly give you this option...AND still get to keep the prices they want on the web. Maybe it could be done through phone ordering?

Eventually everyone will forget what the prices "used" to be and accept the new ones if they at least were given the option of getting what they wanted before the prices were jacked up.

Think about it.

...I did order one aza...My distress came from the fact that you wanted a "little salve" applied in the form of a "temporary moratorium" on pricing for the few who bought in the past. No one would have forgotten what the prices had been. What they've done instead is not to have embarked on a temporary fix but to have adjusted the regular prices to levels that were more in line with might be called a "reasonable increase" that seems more in-line with todays economy...By the way my order was placed before there was any 15% discount...Hope you enjoy your custom...
