Buck's Kustom Knife Shop IS still OPEN!

Hey Dave,

I haven't joined the BCCI yet, but I'll join if it means they'll sell me a knife at the old price.

Joe told me about the stir on the new pricing for the custom shop knives. I have two views on this issue. First, there is a time and a place for ordering a custom shop knife and for those who need one it is too bad they cost so much. However, I hope this new pricing will turn some of you "buyers" into "collectors". Most of the knives you seek are out there to be collected and it can actually be fun to go looking for what you need. It takes a little longer to find what you want but the thrill of the discovery is a lot more fun than writing a check and waiting a few weeks!!

Buyers into collectors......at the new prices....not hardly.

My collecting/buying days appear to be rapidly coming to an end.

Semi forced retirement a limited fixed income and fuel and food prices will effective put a stop to any future custom shop purchases for me, as well as the predicted price increases as word gets out.

Sorry, I tend to just blurt things out without wording it nicely.
Maybe its this cold bitter coffee.

Richard, that's a very cavalier attitude. Sounds like another way of saying: If you don't like it, lump it

As for your "...buyers into collectors" simile, well I consider myself a collector as I have over 40 110's plus various other Buck knives. In the past I have ordered 1 knife from the custom shop (and was planning on ordering a MOP) to fill in a hole in my collection. Not only have the prices esclated out of all proportion to reality but it seems the MOP option is no longer available. With a little bit of warinng about the impending price increases or unavailibility of certain options i'm sure there would not have been such a uproar from individuals on this forum.

And if you disagree with my comments....as you say...TOO BAD

If there had been any warning, I'd have a damascus MOP and a couple other knives.

Perhaps that explains why there could be no warning????

The mad rush to order would have backed them up for years, right?

I'm sure they wanted to avoid such chaos.

yep sir i kinda got agree wit ya on that finding one is a blast...
problum is :
1: formaly new knife collectors will now go after all the older customs
2: as they could afford the new ones before the older ones wont seem so expensive and this means 1+2 =
3: as prices on the street for old ones will go up because thoes with more money now go after the formaly cheeper ones that i and many others will not be able to afforde thoes either!
i can only be consoled in that should i give up collecting Buck's art knives that with over 150 of them i could make a tidy sum with a good exit plan...
and they still sell corvettes and harly's dont they?

Well, Guess I better jump in just because. Boy, I am having a hard time reading some of this stuff and not going for C or BP 110 just from the "auction" rush mentality. I hope no one leaves forum Or BCCI, I hope no one who can won't go to Idaho, I hope you 110'ers find some relief, I hope you guys with bad relationship experiences find a good one, I hope Dave gets some extra good corn for fathers day, I hope everyone is kind in deed and word to each other and especially Joe H. because he IS top-notch and last of all I hope someone will eventually sell me a America's cup 315 at a fair price. ( Well, I can at least hope on the last one, the rest of them are REALLY possible)>

My quest is to do good, wear a white hat, salute the flag and always be on the watch for the next knife......300Bucks

I can think of lots of events in life where a custom shop knife could be warranted... well I could have... (not anymore though)

and for those who need one it is too bad they cost so much.

Yes it is too bad. Buck Knives to me were always the working mans knife.
Thats what I always liked about Bucks. I wonder if Hoyt or Al ever dreamed of selling a knife for $1000.00 or better. I could never even justify that (for a CS 110). Maybe its my fault for not picking the right career or lifestyle...
I dont think that I would say that Bucks custom shop knives were cheap but they were affordable to most, if you really wanted something special. Spending over $100.00 on a knife is not really cheap to me but it is within reach. At least some of the more common woods for handles are still somewhat reasonable and within reach for us "common folk"... ;)

If you mean "users" rather than "buyers", then I think you are way off...If we wanted a particular collectible knife with various options, we would go online to find it...(or gun shows, or knife shows, or Larry's List, etc)... :)

But most here want a *user*...not a closet queen...A *quality* user...at a reasonable price...

If the Custom Shop is now configured for "collectors", then there's going to be a lot of slack time in the Custom Shop...

More time to make those lunchbox knives that 334dave spends so much time hunting down... ;)

Sad is right.

All of this was inevitable. I just didn't realize how fast it would happen. I thought there would be a longer time of stability after the move to Idaho.

But, I have been thinking for a couple of years that Buck as we have known it......would probably cease to exist.

I bought quite a few knives last year, a lot of new old stock 120s and also including some lower-priced custom 110s.

This was going to be my year to buy a bunch of the higher-priced custom 110s.

I missed it.

That is, of course, a minor thing compared to the folks who are losing their jobs.....especially those who relocated to a place where replacement jobs are nonexistent.

My heart goes out to them.

Chickentrax - I never really considered the custom shop knives to be users. For my money the custom shop knives have always been too expensive to use. If I want a user I go to Wally World. I have a lot of collectable knives in as new condition that I found by networking, buying off Larry's lists, going to knife shows and calling dealers all over the country. My original point was that knives can be obtained in a variety of ways. If you can't afford the custom shop knives, why not fall back on other methods of collecting? To the best of my knowledge, the other sources are cheaper than the custom shop at the moment.

Topol - sorry you think I am being cavalier. I would hope I am being pragmatic. In the fifteen years I have been collecting I have seen knives go up and down in price from various sources. For example, the last 124 I bought was a first production edition with teflon spacers that I paid $179 for in as new condition. Try to find one of these today for under $500 with as new box and sheath. Also, for what it is worth, the first 124 like that I bought was $550 in the late 1990s. Pricing and availability is always an ebb and flow situation. Even gas prices ebb and flow. So before you give up a hobby you love and jump off the pier, give it a little time for things to level out.
