BUNDOK BOWIE, an Introduction.....

wonder how long before the hoarders have them start showing up in the exchange for crazy money

ah. worth. worth to you?

if they sell at $250, they are worth that to someone.

the 20 is much thicker than the 21. the 21 is longer...

at 1.35 vs 1.40 lbs each, they are basically the same weight - that's .8 ounce difference

the msrp of the 21 is $200 and change, street price is lower but it's "mass produced"

a 450 sprint run is not mass produced. if it sells well, they might do more, but i would not expect mass produced.

sprints cost more money, due to tooling and all that. $200 for three knives? nice. one the free knives are gone, i don't expect the price to change for "just one", except "go up".

it's a good idea for KaBar; i'd say we should get used to the model, and paying more.

it's worth it.
Worth it to anyone imo. You can buy a Busse for that kind of money. It is still just about the same size chunk of 1095 as the 21. So, it should be priced the same or less.

These knives are all mass produced production knives. They are all machine made except for the final grind. If they can sell it for $200 with two other knives then selling it for the kind of money you are talking about would be ripping people off imo. It is a $100-150(retail not msrp) knife imo. Remember too these are just good old 1095 so they are already making a good profit as it is.

I do hope these come out as a stand alone offering at a reasonable price. I wouldn't mind getting one.

I think the discussion of value is certainly valid....but seriously, with the kind of numbers of these that Ka-Bar might sell, even $200 for JUST the BK20 is more than reasonable (MSRP), IMO. IF they go into regular production, I'd bet that we'd see them on the interwebs for less. Take into account materials, production and paying employees and I don't think it's unreasonable at all to see that kind of price point. Mass production still requires skilled labor, and at $200 for 3 knives no one, and I mean NO ONE, should be bitching. B***e SR101 (basically 52100, a high carbon NON-stainless steel) knives are priced well above that and do not include sheaths. While I will always look for the deal, I'm aware of what the true costs are in producing knives....and even if you don't need a 4&5 (as I most definitely do not) it's still a fair price for the Bundok alone, regardless. Look at what some of the disco'd models are selling for, specifically Brutes. If one thinks it's too much money, then one needn't buy the package. But don't complain that Ka-Bar is ripping people off. They have been in business a very long time and know what their costs & likely sales volume are. Yeah, $200 is a chunk of money....but LOTS of people have paid shitloads more for just ONE knife that has a LOT less steel......I think the Bundok bundle is a GREAT value....if you can swing it. I've decided to forgo some other things so that I can swing it. Probably gift or do a GAW for the 4, and modify the hell out of the 5. Remains to be seen. Don't even know if I'll take to the 20, so someone may have a shot at it down the line, depending.....or not. Looking forward to beating on it, nonetheless.

Also though, I'd much rather give money to Ethan than Jerry.

I agree that $200 for the 3 knife package is more then fair. That's not what we were discussing though. Bladite was guessing that later production runs(if they happen) of the the BK20 would sell for $250-300 just for the one knife. That would be no where near fair imo. It should sell for no more then the BK21. It should really be a bit less then the BK21 imo.

If I could have came up with the extra cash right now, I would have been all over it.

Beckerhead #360

i expect to see a lot of 4s and 5s flipped soon.

400+ ;) probably $40 shipped even.

course, a few saavy people will buy a few 20s, and flip them later.

if i'm a betting man, KaBar will sell the BK20 again, in limited runs, for $250 to $300, but without extras.

$40? too high. i already sold the 4 and 5 for $60 total to the mad indian :D

$250-300? That would be rediculous. Who would pay that for a BK20. Even the BK21 is no where near that price and it is a much larger knife. $100-150 at most should be what it is worth.

i agree...just looking at the esee junglas' (micarta and one of the best kydex sheath setup in the business) going rate is $155 from knifeworks...not this limited release but if a regular production bk20 were to happen a $100 seems fair but a bit on the high side still.

i think you ripped him off ;) lol :D

$100? you guys just don't seem to get it. sprint runs cost more money.

little birdies tell me that many a company are tired of sitting on stock made in the 1000s for a trade in price down the road. hence, sprints.

potentially, you'll see more knives, but less of them. higher prices. it's the future.

speculation based on armchair guesses? meh. insider knowledge? priceless. making shit up? you won't know ;)

but think about it.

artificial scarcity, is a good thing.

educated guessing :D

fair? what's fair? ask the goblin king.

why would the 20 be LESS than the 21? esp if they make limited amounts each time. costs more to do that. do you understand how a shoppe works?

personally, i'd like to see 100s of the 20s and 21s sold. Ethan makes money. Happy Ethan.

KaBar is making some money, but it's not like Apple with those markups. they get by. they charge more, everyone is happy. well, maybe not you :D

then again, if they don't make any more, every, the secondary market is going to be crazy :D good luck.

i consider a sprint a limited release...when i posted regular production i'm referring to how many bk2s, bk9s, etc. are produced...and a $200+ bk20 that's available on amazon any day of the week just isn't going to sell i think.

Just coming back from vacation, so only now hearing about this awesome blade. Was ready to get the 4, so for a few(ish) buck more, I can get the 20;).
I have been stocking up on 5's since the rumors of impending demise. A fourth won't hurt, right?

BTW: One less is now available. Bladite said #15 left on 4/15 - between gtblade (above) and myself, Kabar might be sitting on single digits now...

I have been wondering how accurate those claims are - how do they come by those numbers?

I figured that it was just a poke to get people to step up....if there were really only 15 then, I think they'd have been gone by now.
