Bunny Knife 2022

Bladeforums knives mean profit for those who get their hands on them with the intent to sell them
That's not me.

if our Forum Knife were say, an Opinel or SAK with a Bladeforums logo
You actually made me take my time and think about it. And that is what I ended up with: one of the reasons I am after the new BF knife is because it is a GEC, for sure. But not because I want to make profit of it. It is because I do like GEC, and I do like BF, appreciate all the info I read here and all the nice people I meet, and the knife itself appeals to me, so if I am eligible to get the annual knife I'll be more than happy (though delivering it to me would still require either a local dealer or a good willing person from EU or somewhere close to help me with it, so eligibility itself is only half of the deal for me).

I think there are two reasons for dedicated BF members to want the annual knife. One is because they like the forum, and the other is because they like the knife itself. I see it as some people, like the old timers who been here for years and contributed very much, might actually want the annual knife as a memento of BF itself as a part of their lives and not really the knife itself as, you know, a knife, so they buy it no matter what manufacturer or pattern it would be. And others, like me, also really like BF and appreciate participating in it (especially the Porch), but the knife itself also matters to them, so they won't buy one that they don't like only because it is a BF knife. Because why not? Let other good member have it who actually likes or needs it. So yes, if Opinel or whoever will be making a knife for BF, the only real question would be if I like the model itself, because there is no doubt about the forum.

And talking about mementos, for me the BF knife would of course serve as a good memory too. I am here about year and a half or so, and the only "sour in mouth", like someone said in the original thread, that I ever got here was from yesterday's hot discussion. I honestly wouldn't think that mentioning GECC would lead to such a skirmish. I guess I was wrong doing so, especially in that part of the year, so I don't blame people who maybe just tired of... you know, things they are tired of, and have a short fuse, sort of. It almost shocked me though, because in our big world in every place there are some percentage of "bad" people, and I couldn't imagine that small presence of those both at the Porch and in GECC would create a dissonance between the two communities. What is kind of ironic (in a sad way) is that there are many people who are members in both places, so why would these really be a different communities...

So let's get together, enjoy our hobby, ignore the small bads, and don't let a bunch of hustling strangers tear us apart and disunite us. Let's not forget that our hobbies are our "balm of hurt minds", not another strife cause. Shall we?

We sure have acquired a lot of new members in the last 24 hours

I feel sorry for Gary and Frank, last year was brutal, and this year is shaping to be...

There's always Plan B ;)

He got permission.
And who told you that, eh?
Was it Charlie?
I bet he’s got a motorcycle club jacket and a tattoo that reads, “Forum Knife or Die”.
Charlie drag races on unfinished highways for forum knives.

I’m down for a SAK or Opinel forum knife. I love GEC, they make a hell of a nice forum knife and something to be proud of, but I also like reading the forums without watching everything devolve into eligibility debates.

For years, the only encounters with Humboldt squid were experienced by fishermen, and they believed the large squid to be "aggressive, opportunistic creatures that prey on anything that comes their way ...The Humboldt, specifically, are known to be fierce, cannibalistic fighters. Mexican fishermen have nicknamed them "diablos rojos," or red devils, because of their bodies' red color and their hostile nature."

More recently, with the development of submersible cameras capable of functioning in the pressures of deeper waters, the squid have been observed behaving quite differently in the deep. Swimming peacefully, displaying a complex array of colors.

My point being, when someone says that Bladeforums is unwelcoming, it's because they only interact with us during forum knife time, when we are battling fishermen.

There's always Plan B ;)

Which reminds me of a question of mine I wanted to ask back in last year. Why is it called "Bladeforums knife" if it is in fact a Bladeforums' Traditionals section knife? Is there any history behind it, like Traditionals subforum is the oldest one, or it is the best one (my guess it is though) by some criteria, or what? Honest question whith no arguing intention, for informational purposes only, in case you might think otherwise.

Unfortunately for you, you brought up some things that have negative historical context around here. Last year, was one of the worst Bladeforums Knife events we have ever had. GEC was just reaching fervent pitch with flippers and collectors, and when it was announced that Bladeforums was having a special Barlow (itself one of the hottest models ever) made that had a feature set you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else, the rest of the internet went crazy, and suddenly we had an influx of new members, and also a tidal wave of members that (no offense) look just like you with an account with some age on it but like a couple hundred posts. This was because there were a lot of people from Facebook, Reddit, and Instagram who had dusted off their old accounts that they never use, because they don't actually participate here, all coming in and acting like they were one of the crew. "HELLO FELLOW BLADEFORUMS PEOPLE, CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS KNIFE!" and we were like "I'm sorry, who are you again?"

Combine that with it getting out how folks on these other sites were talking trash about Bladeforums (which was screenshotted and shared here), and there you have it. That's why it gets tiresome when some of the folks who are members of both places then come in here and try to defend the Facebook pages. "They're all GRAAAYYYYTE GUYS! GIVE 'EM A CHANCE!" Really? Because it sure seems like plenty of 'em don't like Bladeforums or its members, and have (had) plenty to say about it.

Listen, we're all adults here. We know what it is. We all do. Some of us keep an eye on this particular monster pretty much year round. Bladeforums 2019 Knives still command absolutely outrageous prices on Ebay, and are used commonly over on Facebook as trade bait to try to scare up the rarest of GECs. The BF21 Barlow trades hands commonly there as well (because many of them got one for the sole reasons I've outlined in my previous response). So, we know what it is. It gets tedious when we see folks elsewhere talking about how we should be nicer, we should be cool, we're chasing people away. To all that I say, who are we chasing away? Mainly, it's opportunistic ghouls who are just here for one thing, and once they have it, we won't see them again until next year's Bladeforums GEC Forum Knife discussion. So, what these scumbag whiny complainers on these other sites are actually saying is "Why can't they just step aside and let us have what we want without trying to call us out or gatekeep?".

I won't speak for others, but I've been pretty clear on what I think of that, personally.

That's a reasonable question. Is it a "Traditional-Forum" Knife or a Traditional "Forum-Knife"?

Maybe it didn't really matter, back when this was just a sleepy little corner of the internets. The only people who knew about or wanted them were regular posters in the subforum. Now there's a lot more interest in traditional knives, more demand for collectable knives in general, and GECs in particular.

Repeating what I said in the other thread: if 500 are made, and 700 people want them, it's either first-come-first-served lolly scramble, or criteria must be set based on time of membership/participation.

It would probably be for the best if this were handled behind the scenes, no publicly calling out posters that we don't think should qualify. When it's buying time, they would just get a "Sorry, try again next time" message. But after last year, there's no confidence that that would happen. (and it would probably lead to all kinds of hard feelings anyway, with accusations of favoritism)

As my mother used to say, "This is why we can't have nice things."

Well, I am a member of GECC. As a matter of fact, I joined on the 5th day of its existence. I think I was like the 14th member. I for one would not vouch for the vast majority of the group. There are 3600 members, only about 100 are active (and that's being generous). Yes, those 100 are mostly good people, and quite a few of those 100 are members in good standing on BF as well. Do you know why? Because they are genuine knife collectors. Tada! The other 3500? Probably only show up on Thursdays 🤔. Pst, Thursdays are the selling day over there, hmm I wonder if there is a connection?

Anyway, IMO if you want a forum knife? Join the conversation and be apart of the group and you will be in good standing for 2023.
