Bushcraft Knife challenge - Interest?

I think we got carried away with rules on this one and I don't think anyone wanted that. This is mostly about fun and learning. Making it a challenge or a contest makes it interesting but there really won't be any loosers. However, the biggest winners will be us testers, followed by the forum members who follow this competition, and then finally the knife makers who will get alot of feed back on their work.

I agree about the rules. The last 2 there wasn't this much talk about rules. Let the makers do their thing and the testers test. Not much more then that.

this sounds amazing !!!... a question to the makers who are entering are this knives you will be entering be knives you made before/ one of your "production" knives or will they be all new designs ?

I'm going to be designing from scratch, which is not a requirement. However, what I design may end up just being very, very similar to what I already make in a bushcrafter. But I'm going to go through the whole thought process again.

Gotta love these challenges!

I bet some makers have some materials going already...hows about some knife porn?

:)

(Really, Brian Goode not being in is disapointing.) Brian!!! Make a knife.

Man....I cant get cought up as it is.

Question...................I need to review the rules again but I have a few of my personal knives. Who is doing the testing again? I'll go review the requirements again..................:D Damn YOU:p

Got mine profiled with the grind, drilled, ready for heat treat. It's a new design.
Scott

Damn Scott! Not waisting anytime are we..

@ Brian The testers will be Marcelo, Big Mike, myself, and maybe Rescue Riley (I still haven't contacted him)

The only requirement is that the blade be no larger than 5" So if you want to enter knife you already made, I think that will be fine.

It will be great to have you in here bro!

Well done Scott - I say you get 2 bonus points for being the first one started:p

I have a new design cut out in cardboard...it's called the CBC:)

Wow, already have a couple started. Great news. Definitely looking forward to the results from this one.

When will I have to mail it in? It's my deer knife man :)

Had some down time today. Got 6 blades in works but I'm waiting on heat treating and materials for them.
Tony are you coming with Marcello next month to my event? I guess he is still coming. If so you guys will get to see the knife.

I am planning on it:thumbup:

Brian, Nov 20th is the due date:p

Well, I brought my proto design (when I say proto, that just means I decided to keep it for myself.) to Ken (kgd) today and he gave it the thumbs up. So, I will make a similar but prettier one for the challenge. He took a few pics and if I ask really nice he may post em for me.... pweeeeeeaze?

Here it is...Nice size for a bushcrafter. Blade is long enough to do most of what you need and yet offer high level of control. The handle is wonderfully generous and very comfortable. A full size knife handle on a compact knife. As usual for Rick's knives, it came sharper than hell. The sheath with its tie off loops was really cool too.

Thanks Ken.... that was quick!

Tony.....

A suggestion on the sharpening...........

Perhaps you guys can just go to town on the knives until you decide it absolutely needs sharpening? That way we get to see the edge retention. Some knives will outlast others and some will be easier to sharpen. It's a give and take, I think.

Rick

whatever works. My only concerns are safety and getting some sharpening in the reviewing. Besides, that gives Big Mike a chance to show off, too :D :D
