A little background on why I chose this knife for the contest:
I know that you guys are going to get a bunch of real fancy looking knives with pretty handles and, in a lot of cases, more embellishments than usual. I thought about doing a "special knife" for the contest to help get some publicity, but after I thought about it for a while, I decided that it just wouldn't be honest.
My most popular model is the Delta Foxtrot. I've been making this model since I first started making knives. In fact, the first knife that I made myself from start to finish was the prototype for the Delta Foxtrot. Everytime I make a batch of knives, I keep one for myself. It's never "special". I always pick one out after I'm done finish-grinding the blades, and it's always the least pretty one.
The knife I sent you guys is a standard Delta Foxtrot out of my personal stash. This one came from my second batch of knives. Other than having double liners (I like a slightly thicker handle) this thing is exactly the same knife that my customers get.
Out of all my models, this one is my favorite. It is built for work ONLY. This knife isn't meant to be pretty. It isn't meant to be elegant. It's meant to function ,cut and be as comfortable as possible. That's it. All of my knives are designed in this mindset. They are user knives, nothing special, nothing glamorous. I know part of this contest was about looks, but a low score in that department doesn't bother me. Looks don't factor into my designs. I didn't want to show my future customers how pretty I can make a knife. I want to show them how my purpose-built knives perform. So here you go, a no frills Delta from my personal collection.
If you want to know what it looks like, just look at any black canvas handle Delta on Bladeforums. It looks just like all the others, maybe not as pretty. Here's a picture of one:
EDIT: One other thing is different from a standard Delta Foxtrot that a customer would get. Everyone else's has the spine edges sharp from the end of the thumb ramp to the tip for striking ferro rods, scraping, whatever. Normally, I leave them sharp for all the survival and bushcraft guys. I don't strike ferro rods with my blade so mine has the spine edges smoothed out. Feel free to use the cutting edge to strike the ferro rod for the fire building task. It can take it.
