Welcome to the Bladeforums. What do you mean by saying "use in actual combat"? Do you mean to say from the perspective of a soldier, a G.I.? Do you mean it from the perspective of some street confrontation? Or, maybe from the perspective of someone who wants to stake another person and kill him with a knife / sword?

The reason I am asking this is that in every case the implement of choice can and should differ greatly for quite a few reasons. For instance, I doubt whether the guys down in Iraq can carry an AK-47 or, a Ruck Kensei for that matter. Further to that, try to fight an opponent when you can sense his breathing and you will see that neither of these will serve you well because they are too large. Don't get me wrong here, both are fantastic swords but not suitable for core-a-core blade fight. There you will need something that you can move in your hand with the speed of light, otherwise kiss this world goodbye! There, you will need something like a Satin Jack Tac. A War Boar can serve well too but, it's not as versatile as the Satin Jack Tac. Concerning either the Hell Razor or, the Mud Razor, they are nice general purpose knives but more difficult to maneuvre than the Satin Jack Tac. The ST-56 is also a very good choice. I have owned these knives and have experienced their handling, it's not words by hearsay.

On the other hand, if you mean it from the perspective of a street melee, like in the movie "Gangs of New York", then both of them (the AK-47 or, the Ruck Kensei) will make exceptional choices. If, on the other hand, you mean it from the standpoint of someone who wants to stake another person and kill that person with a cutting tool, then in addition to the above one can also choose any of the "bad" choppers: the FSH or, the FBM versions.

Good info, thank you! Andros, can you please elaborate on the point you made about the Hell Razor or Mud Razor being more difficult to manuever than a Satin Jack TAC? Is the difference the blade, the handle, the heft, the balance?

I have a Satin Jack but not a Satin Jack TAC, and while I do love my SJ for its speed and versatility (changing from a standard to reverse grip is very smooth, and the blade is a nice length) I have heard that the TAC version is much better. No wonder they are so popular.

As for what kind of fighting I am referring to, I am open to any and all tips - whether it is street combat, military combat, knife-to-knife or otherwise.

RVO3VOM, thank you for the pics! I love that rounded pommel on the RUCK.

I have founf that the Ergos and Fusions are a little more difficult to switch from standard to reverse grip single handed. But I don;t think that would really be an issue. I think that what ever grip you start with you will most likely finish with. I just can't see flipping a blade around in the middle of a life or death situation. But, sure, it could happen.

The TAC handles seem the easiest to manuver for me. But I still have to try the SF handles.

General Combat, seems to me to mean one you would want to carry to War, a big utility knife.

But it sounds to me like you mean a Fighting knife as in Knife fight.

Most of the Micarta handled Busse knives are a bit slow, though there are lots of Variants that would fill the bill.

For production knives I would look to just a few(AK is a short Sword more than a knife)
The Basic #9, is a fast knife, the Mister Mojo, also, but I think that the Hood knife is prolly the fastest of the Production, Micarta handled Busse knives.

The ZTBM-E get Honorable Mention.

i think a battle guard would also work pretty well as it's lighter than the other larger knives and has a pretty nice guard.

O.K., let me try to be more precise: the difference between the Satin Jack Tac on the one hand and the Hell Razor / Mud Razor on the other, lies mostly in the handle. Of course, the blades on the Hell Razor / Mud Razor are heftier than that of the Satin Jack Tac, I don't think this is the biggest issue though. The Satin Jack Tac is slightly smaller than the other two knives and yet it's easier to maneuver and flip it. Here is a picture of four knives that I have already mentioned for reason of comparison. The knife on top is a HHFSH with magnum handles.

I believe that we need to mention that concerning the knife used from a G.I., killing is not the first priority. Using it for a variety of tasks is. With that in mind, I think that both the Hell razor, as well as, the Mud razor would pull ahead of the Satin Jack Tac. I still support though that the Satin Jack could be used for utility purposes easily! It is not a dedicated fighter as the ST-56 is for example. The only reason for which I mentioned that the Hell Razor / Mud Razor would pull ahead is simply their overall heft, which would come handier for opening up say, an ammo crate.

I hope that helps.

If we are talking just edge weapons for combat then.......

For me it would be a convexed Ruck in the right hand and a FABM with HolyTerror on the left.

Two Rucks would be cool too! My left hand is not as coordinated as my right so prefer a smaller more agile blade on the left that will also come to its own in really tight quarters or CQCB distance.

Mall ninja, chop socky, wanna be, zombie wacking or something to go along with the 40+lbs of crap Uncle Sugar aready gave you? My .02 would be the SJ in any form in general use or, of course, my Nuke Variant. Unfortunately there are times when all you can have is a folder and a Leaner Meaner so you might want to train a little with that to:rolleyes:;)
