All I know is that my $100 Launch 1 doesn't have that problem. So I don't see how he can say that it's, "normal".

I don't know if you can really compare lock wear on a manual button lock with an auto, just due to the difference in how they're operated. A button lock auto is always opened with the button depressed and most manual button locks don't have the button depressed to open.

I went ahead and dropped it off at the post office today. Managed to make an exchange with a lesser but somewhat expensive, the Anthem. Im sorry if you guys wanted me to keep the money but i couldnt passed on that BM. Asked them to check the centering before shipping tho. So fingers crossed.

The 781 is a solid knife, I expect you'll like it as long as you understand the limitations of a Benchmade AXIS lock knife (which is to say the pivot tightness/tiny amount of side to side play that drives some folks nuts).

Thanks for the heads up. My 940-1 does have a tiny bit of side to side blade play to but that doesn’t bother me that much.

His response was 100% unprofessional & the idea that he couldn't register to respond here makes him look like an idiot.
By his own admission, this is his first attempt at making that design. Maybe I'm nuts, but, if I'd sent something new and untried out into the world, I'd have wanted as much feedback as I could get - good/bad or indifferent.

The part that's particularly sad is that Mr. Hoback had a genuine opportunity to earn a lot of good will here with his response. Anyone even vaguely familiar with the Bladeforums community will understand that while we may be quick with our judgements, if a maker steps up and makes something right they usually leave with a better reputation than even if there had never been an issue in the first place.

Like, my initial reactions to OP's pictures and question was, "Jake Hoback makes a button lock flipper?! That sounds goddamn sweet!" mistakes get past QC, it's an imperfect world and I certainly wasn't gonna hold one button lock dinging up against, what I thought, was a reputable and talented maker. But given his response I'm completely done. Being told that it's better that way when something is clearly wrong and all sorts of passive aggressive shots at your customer speaks to someone's character, and that matters to me a lot more than what knives you make.

Exactly. His response was a slap in the face to all the members here. It sounded as if he couldn't care less about the people on this forum & couldn't be bothered to even take the time to sign up. Pretty lame since he does have a FB account & all he would have had to do was just log in via Facebook.
Oh well, his loss.

I think there are many makers and manufacturers that would rather not deal with the community here for a variety of reasons and, for the most part, I respect that. We can be a weird, fickle demanding bunch and, if we're being honest, it's often easier to deal with an uneducated customer than an enthusiast or, even worse, an enthusiast that thinks they're educated and aren't. That said, if you're going to complain about your customers asking questions here and giving you 'bad press' then you absolutely need to have a membership. This community LOVES makers and manufacturers that engage with them and will usually give the maker the benefit of the doubt, IMO. If you don't want to engage, just ignore BFC and do your thing on Facebook and Insta.

When I had my old Stitch auto apart for cleaning the button that locks it into place only had dark scuff. The same type you'd see on a traditional stop pin. I couldn't even feel an indent with my finger. I think it works the same way as far as how it locks the blade open even though it deploys via automatic push button.

I'm just another knife nut here on the forum, though I can personally vouch for Jake's generosity and quickness to respond when and if you have an issue or are just chatting up knives. I can also say if I had made a post that later turned into a poll about issues with a knife, and not bothered to first work it out with the knife maker I would need to own that. The question the OP posed Kmikaz3 to be clear was a fair ask. Though knowing how easy it is to reach people today, (Jake and the OP are both on Instagram), in this digital age I find it hard to believe much of an effort was made. Such a post poses BAD PRESS needlessly. I also re-read Jake's letter on tab 4 of this thread and it's not as bad as it was first copy/pasted the first time in its entirety.

Case in point, I needed a replacement part for a Jake Hoback knife of mine. I reached out to him today 11/04/2020, heard back today, and the part is already on its way to me today.

I also sent a brand new knife into Guardian Tactical back in May 2020, it arrived at their shop in PA on June 03, 2020 and I have been in communication with them from that day. Yet sometimes a month would go by without an update, and most recent I was told back in September that the issue would be resolved soon. Here it is now November and still no updates since September, and no knife. Yet if you search our great forum you will find no mention of this until now. I think all forums have a tendency to attract drama.

Would I buy another Jake Hoback knife, hell yeah! Would I buy another Guardian Tactical knife, maybe.

Again, i was just asking for advices... i didn’t bashed the maker nor saying to avoid his works. I did, in fact, contacted him twice, through is website and through an email found on IG. While waiting for his response, which took 3 days since its the weekend, i was anxious and asked the community for their opinions. I had high hope to expect some nice overall customer service from him while waiting. If he were to simply explain to me that everything is perfect within a perfectly courteous email, ill accept the knife as is. But instead, he got pissy at me and accused me of bad press, which to be fair i don’t think i did. I believe, i do have my freedom of free speech. Therefore, ill pass on this model and move on. I still repect him as a whole but this one i think i can’t let it slide.

Is this Jake Hoback?!?

And if you were to read through the early posts, some community member even had good faith in Jake on responding and fixing this issue before everything went sideways.

Like I just said..my name is James not Jake. I think your response to me says a LOT about you, not Jake. I reached out to Jake today via Instagram PM and he responded TODAY. I don't know why you had to give me a smartass response. I had assumed maybe you did not message him on Instagram in this digital age where it is easy to connect with sellers, makers, and buyers and I was correct in that.

Thats awesome that you have had great service from Jake.
However, I hate repeating myself but I will...this is a knife forum...we ask and discuss knife related things here.
I don’t think it was “Bad Press” until the email was posted.
Just my thoughts.

You're entitled to your opinion but clearly the majority of the respondents to this thread disagree. The OP wasn't disrespectful or disparaging and asking the world's largest knife forum for an opinion before making an issue out of something seems like a completely logical use of the world's largest knife forum.

But, that said, even if the OP was nasty in his initial post, he is still the consumer and has a concern. The way in which the maker reacts to that concern will say a lot and is what people will ultimately judge and remember. This will be even more impactful if the owner is nasty and the maker is not. We've seen it here many times.
