Buy a STRIDER knife...NOT ME!

Eleven days. Big deal. It probably took him 11 days to figure out if you were joking- the dealer section is easy to find. But sometimes it just takes a while to get through all one's messages. Strider, like many companies with a web site is not an "internet company." You can't expect immediate responses from everyone with an email address. Email is a service that not everyone has the ability to keep up with on a consistent basis. And if you get angry and rude with everyone that doesn't respond immediately to your messages, you're in for a long bumpy ride in cyberland.

But the real issue is that your reply was rude and uncalled for. I'm glad Mick was straight with you. What incentive would he have to give you a polite, courteous response? He probably cringes at the idea of people like you carrying around his handiwork.

Okay, let us consider: If one is consumed with trying to fill orders, one is not going to have time to sit aroung the computer all day answering emails. Furthermore, you cannot obtain an answer to your inquiry on their website, there's always the Strider forum. If you post your inquiry in the Strider forum, you will get a response. Now, just how "scathing" was your complaint to Strider knives? Was it enough to warrant the reply you received?

If I may speak for all of us who are in sales (my main job is in orthopaedic sales and my pretend job is selling knives, holsters, ect. [my AnklePocket customers are never a bother]) who get beat up every day, year after year, decade after decade, "Outstanding response Oh Great Mr. Strider! You're an inspiration to sales personnel everywhere.". I shall buy another Strider for myself ASAP. I could use a DB for the little area in my car below my radio. Joe Estrada had better get the hell back so I can place my stink'in order. And it had better have those filthy little tiger ****** stripes on it or I'm opening up a big can of whupass.

The customer is not always right, and it's about time customers started figuring that out.
I could tell horror stories about customers who have been taught that they are always right, and it's sickening to see someone have to put up with them.
Myself, I don't care who you are, you won't be talking to me like I'm a subhuman piece of garbage that you can walk all over, and that's that.

The simple fact is, people need to learn how to handle someone talking straight with them, especially if they are rude.

The customer is always right. You may get to a point in your business where you can afford to act like this, but the truth is one has to behave like the "customer is always right" when you are first getting started. You may have been out of line, Mr. Consumer, and it is human nature for "costumer tolerance" to be the first casualty when the businessman's business is where he wants it to be. But I agree with Richard, there appears to be an attitude at work which is quite unattractive.

Buy a Busse!

Not every business I have encountered runs on a "customer is always right" model.Strider is willing to turn a potential customer away by his response. If he wasn't willing to take that chance, his response might have been different. These smaller shops are not comparable to K-Marts, Wal-Marts,etc.I see them more like contractors. If I piss off my plumber, carpenter, electrician,I feel confident that I might not get them to come over to bid on my project. The beauty of the situation from standpoint of the potential customer who posted this complaint is:There are many makers on this forum. If you don't like how you were handled go to another maker and order a knife to your specs.ATS-34 heat treated by Paul Bos.Whatever you want. There are many talented makers here who will give you what you want. You might even come across one or two who will be polite;)The point is:you have lots of options and can get exactly what you want if you look around.

whats wrong with using the telephone these days?
Jeez

Do a search engine lookup for "strider knives"

You will find plenty of dealers.

To begin with, I think that SKTRGNLDR went about this the wrong way. This whole thread could have been avoided if SKTRGNLDR had asked for some help on the Strider forum, I'm sure that there are plenty of good people over there who would have been glad to help out (well, not anymore). The final email is not how I would respond if it was my business, but that is certainly Mr. Strider's choice to make. THe customer is not always right, and even if he is he certainly shouldn't act like a 6 year old.

As an aside, I was only peripherally aware of Strider knives, so I was inspired by this thread to check their website out. They definately seem to make a quality product, and obviously have many devoted supporters, so they must be doing things right. However, I feel I have to mention that "High speed tools for hardcore individuals" is without a doubt the most ridiculous slogan I have ever known a respected company to use. I thought that it might be supposed to mock other far less competent companies that try to use similar verbage to appeal to buyers that want to feel "macho". Is it meant as a joke or something?

Does "The customer is always right" come from the same source as "There's no such thing as bad publicity"?

I don't know who would be right or wrong... Just remember, Mick and Duane are a couple of former "operators". I have never met them myself but have been around guys just like them. What was said was not something I would get upset about.

I spent time in the Marine Corps and I've been a cop for 20 years. I've seen guys call each other some pretty vulgar things, get over it and drink a beer together later. The guys at Strider have spent a lot of time being trained to hurt people and break things for the United States. They're not really "businessmen", they just have a hobby thats doing really well.

Wasn't going to post here until I read fishbulb's post.

fishbulb: Though I mean no disrespect in writing this, it seemed that some explanation might be necessary. Regarding "High Speed Tools for Hardcore Individuals", this might be a reasonable explanation.

Many of the people who purchase and use Strider Knives (i.e. Spec Ops, Military, Law Enforcement and others in related tasks) quite possibly may stake their lives someday on its use. To purposely choose to go into harms way for the benefit of others and the freedoms they enjoy each day is "noble" indeed. If you find yourself in a life threatening situation, every edge you can achieve, including "confidence", may very well be the edge that saves your life, or a fellow soldiers. It is unlikely that Striders are extraoridnarily different than some other makers "special purpose" tools, but confidence in your Strider, and belief in ones ability to survive the situation can and does make the difference. One must clearly have "mindset" to survive. This is a known fact among people who are professionals on the subject, of which I am not BTW, just a student of a few, as well as those who have been there, done that. If an individual finds that the Strider, its reputation, its worthiness, its fit for his/her needs increases that level of confidence, so be it. Gain as much mindset as you can. Did you ever see the movie the "Outlaw Josie Wales". Towards the end he and his "aquired family" are about to be attacked and are making preparations. Clint gives them all a speach about "remember, if things start to look bad and you think you might not make it, you gotta get mean, plumb mad dog mean". Another word for "mean", "hardcore" maybe? If a soldier fighting for my freedom is about to lose his confidence in an ambush, cause it ain't lookin too hot, the weapons dry and so are the mag pouches, I hope he grabs the Strider on his LBE and gets plumb made dog mean cause he knows whats in his hand, and who's behind it. Not to mention the fact that the issued gear to our forces is outdated (especially in bladeware) and was made by the lowest bidder. Striders are meant to open your box, "pry" open your ammo crate, or keep you movin and groovin when the chips are down. I for one hope every soldier who has one keeps movin' and groovin' because of its worthiness AND the mindset it provides.

I have Striders on order that are a little dated from the original delivery date, but know how the guys are overwhelmed and the market demand, exceeds supply (what a great circumstance for them, hooyah brothers, keep grindin'). Troy Webber has the best answer IMHO. If Strider makes you angry, seek other bladeware. Limited time in this industry has taught me that it is vastly different from pretty much any other industry. Waiting on a response from a particular maker, or your order is not uncommon with the demand for the product. Take your licks, lick your wounds, and decide whether its worth it or not.

You can't even tell an a-hole to fk off these days without a discussion.
Thanks for the support everyone. And your interest in Strider Knives.

For those of you who believe I was out of place, I'm sorry that you are willing to allow people to step on you. I am not.

If that makes me a poor business man. So be it. I don't come from a business background. I make knives. If people like them, they buy them and we are both happy. If you get in my face, we will fight, no one will be happy. Its really a simple thing. Think of me as a mirror. You get what you give.

I certainly don't have any hard feelings toward Mr.SKTRGNLDR! If he wants to call or e-mail and be nice, no big deal. I have no idea who he is. I answered 144 e-mails that day.

Rule number one in dealing with Strider Knives: Be patient.
Rule number two: Don't get your feelings hurt. We are very busy. We don't have a lot of time for hand holding. If you want to chat, or fight, come to a show. If you want to exchange information, call or e-mail. My response of " you'll need to check our web page" was an information exchange. As was Fkoff.

Our slogan of "Highspeed Tools for Hardcore Individuals" though as you say may sound foolish, is how we have built every knife. It is what and who we are. If it seems foolish to you, it says a bit about you, not us. We still make every blade with the thought that it will serve in war. If it doesn't, great. But what if it does.

Ever Vigilant

Mick Strider

I've had a GB and AR folder on order with the Striderguys for 9 or 10 months now, and I understand that delivery will be "soon". Good enough for me.
I've handled their folders, and I know that they're worth the wait.
I own a Strider Zombie Killer and it's awesome.

I've also met Mick and Duane, and they're some of the best knife guys that you could ever hope to meet. If Mick told you off then you certainly deserved it.

Everyone wants Striders nowadays because the word is out as to how incredible they truly are. Either stand in line or don't.

The customer isn't always right; that's ludicrous. There are plenty of @ssholes in the world, and @ssholes are rarely right, customers or not. So be it.

Sorry about that guys, apparently I wasn't clear enough in my comments about the slogan. As I stated before, Strider obviously makes quality products with a particular user in mind. I think that its great that there are makers who specialize in providing military and law enforcement with an alternative to substandard stuff "designed by the lowest bidder". Although I don't have any need for them I can understand that there are many who do.

I admit that using the word "ridiculous" to describe the slogan may have been a poor reflection of what I meant. I just didn't expect that such a serious manufacturer would have a "catch phrase" when the knives seem so capable of speaking for themselves. I mean, even a casual observer would see that it is intended as a instrument of war for use by people wo know what they're doing. I honestly thought it may have been a jab at others who would put a name like "Commando Ninja Deathmaster 8" on a piece of crap Pakistani knife to appeal to Rambo-wannabees as a substitute for quality. I though I had made that pretty clear, my mistake. Sorry for any ruffled feathers.

keepin' it real

I had the chance to meet Mick & Duane at Blade West. They were very pleasant to talk to & helpful. Duane took the time to show me the Mantrack that was kept under the table. Strider guarantees their product & not too many makers have a warranty like Strider.

You have to admire the current business growth that Strider has achieved. Any business with this kind of growth will have growing pains. Strider knives generally do not collect dust on a dealer’s shelf. I currently have the MSC 6.5 & WB. I got my eyes on the Seal 2001.

Be patient in dealing with Strider or anyone in a similar situation. Finally, if a visitor is confused with the information on the web site, the web site might need some tweaking to minimize the confusion.

Welcome to the Forums fishbulb.

No feathers ruffled at all my man, just a little explanation.

Check out Caracci's Urban Jungle Forum in the Tactics and Training Section. He's a personal friend and a "professional" that offers chapter and verse on "mindset".

Out.
