calling Cliff Stamp...

All you Cliff haters, geez:rolleyes: . Ive found Cliff's posts (most of them anyway) to be informative and interesting, just lay off him already. Im not senslessly worshiping him either, this all my opinion. You have my respect dude:thumbup: Hope that helps you out a bit Cliff.

Anyway, interesting knives you chose, I like the Calypso Jr. as well. Though strangely, I dont own one (yet).:jerkit:

Wow, it seems as though I stirred up a hornet's nest with this post. For those who are offended that I would use this forum as a means to obtain one person's opinion of what they liked, I guess my very un-newb-like response is, "Don't be so butthurt!" As far as I know, there is no rule here that I can't ask for one specific person's opinion. What I do with it after that is my business. What anybody else does with it is their business.

I asked for Cliff's opinion because I wanted Cliff's opinion. It is only his opinion, and I do not necessarily look at it as gospel. (Thank you to everyone here who really did give me credit for having a brain!) If I wanted everyone (anyone) else's opinion, I would have asked for it. Truth is, I respect a lot of opinions of people on this forum ... including a lot of conflicting opinions. But just as it is my right to do with an opinion what I want, it is also my right to respect conflicting opinions.

Yes, I am a newb. Yes, I will admit that I don't know squat about knives. No, I am not willing to stop learning, even in the face of something that may challenge something I have believed in all my life. So rather than bashing someone for offering an answer to a question posed by a newb like me, why not use the reponse provided to the question as a possibility to learn something new. Nobody cares if you don't like what you heard; at least you keep an open mind, which apparently some here are unwilling to do. I find that sad.

Cliff gave me his opinion about what he likes. I am thankful for that. I know that he is a busy guy and that he took the time to respond in fair detail to my question is appreciated. I hope that he would do so again for the next newb that comes along. I have read Cliff's opinion, and every post in this thread. But I have also read a lot of things on this board. I did NOT just drop in last night. So what knife is likely going to be next for me??? Probably a Fallkniven A1 or A2. I am sure that probably comes as a surprise to some given that Cliff didn't even mention the brand. Oh well, I guess that maybe it'll be my loss in the end. But like I said, I was only looking for an opinion, and that's exactly what I got.

Since you only wanted one persons opinion, Cliffs. And only wanted his opinion and no one elses, and are offended that others commented in your thread maybe you should have emailed him. When you ask a question in a forum people will comment on just about anything and a thread can take many twists and turns. Some good and some bad, and some of the best threads have nothing to do with what they started out about.

Some of the posts in this thread (and the other threads that turned into anti-Cliff rants) are disgraceful -- sometimes offensive, sometimes illogical and even, in one instance, threatening . . .

I think any disinterested observer would, for reasons that should be obvious, firmly side with the pro-Cliff camp, as do I.

Thanks, Cliff, for your interesting and informative tests:thumbup:

Thanks for this thread! I enjoyed reading the replies, and it gave me some things to think about. There are a couple of important points here that you bring up.

1. Just because someone is new to this forum doesn't mean they are new to knives. Sorry, KV. I've been using knives both in and out of the military as long as you have. Yes, I'm newer to this forum, that doesn't mean I'm a rookie.

2. I think the average person posting threads like this *are* intelligent enough to place things in context. Sure, there are aspects to some tests that I'm not interested in. There are aspects that I am. Everything gets weighted by my standards, I'm sure that everyone else does this also.

To try and lump people who are interested in reviews as mindless followers is wrong and insulting. Also, I enjoy getting conflicting, non-emotional reports. That's where the learning occurs, when people can compare disparate results. Name calling of people that disagree with you will get you nowhere. It won't stop intelligent discussion among adults, it just won't get you invited into the conversation.

I see people here trying to create divisions where none need exist. Reminds me of 6th grade, with all the name calling and half truths. For example, trying to paint all of Cliff's tests as completely destructive with no attempt to quantify cutting performance is just a flat out lie. Period. Go to his site and read 3 or 4.

For example, I've had terrible performance from S30V. Terrible. Others have had great luck with it. I was able to talk to them, discuss sharpening techniques, edge angles, steel hardness, etc. I've learned a lot, and have been able to improve the performance of some of my S30V knives. That never would have happened unless some people disagreed with me. Thank you to everyone that did!

As did I, and that's why I posted it. I was truly curious and wanted to know. As for any thread that pertains to something that does not interest me, I just go right by it without giving it a thought or criticizing it in any way. But just because I have no interest in the thread does not mean that others will feel the same way, nor does it mean the thread is a poor use of disk drive space on the server. In other words, each to his own.

Ironically, I think all the "Cliff bashing" has had the effect of making me respect him all the more. Go figure. :D :D :D

I appreciate Cliff's testing. I wonder what knife X will take but I do not want to put my knife through the mill. Cliff happily does this and eases my mind about what a particular knife can take. I thank you Cliff.:D

I like Cliff & his reviews. They should not be considered etched in stone but, I think Cliff really tries to give an honest opinion/review. I have noted a few others giving their reviews here as well & welcome them.

Chett,

Care to write some facts instead of personal insults? :barf:

Well umm, here are some facts:

In that post I can clearly see that the poster seems to regard Cliff Stamps words as some sort of law

I wonder, if he told you that a water bottle works great for sharpening would you start trying to sharpen knives on a water bottle?

Oh yeah, and also I don't really feel the need to get in a big argument over this, so I am just gonna stop replying to comments made about my posts in this thread
