Camillus and Schrade of Old Given Short Shrift Now-A-Days

A Senator Whittler, now there's something you don't see every day.

Gabriel, I probably should not have called it a whittler although it is constructed like one (i.e., master resting on two springs and one secondary on each spring at the other end).

Camillus just called it Deluxe Senator Pen.

I can see why they call it a Senator - narrow, equal end, pen blades, but I've never seen a split backspring on anything but a whittler. Very interesting. Very cool.

It is a whittler. The pattern is a senator, but the blade configuration is whittler. Many patterns can be made with a whittler blade configuration. I have quite a few senators which are constructed as whittlers.

There is a thread in the Schrade Collectors Forum about the serial numbers on these knives but it is quite cumbersome to get through and I haven't figured out yet the approximate date of manufacture for this knife.

Been a while since I've seen yours. Were they lost in the photobucket hostage situation?

Here's mine. No nearly as well used as yours. Excuse the recycled pic.

I still carry it a good bit- one of my favorites :) its amazing how all the blades lay tight in the well without any rubbing.
I've got another one NIB in case I ever lose this one... it doesn't have an etch like yours though :/
thankfully I never used photobucket, I've always like imgur better since you don't have to have an account to upload

couple of SW 804s one unused and one used

Just scored this old guy today. It's a Camillus New York USA Brown Rogers Bone WWI Military Issue Electrician's Knife. It was described as looking unused & unsharpend with a great patina. All I know is it looks cool as hell and built like a tank lol. Does anyone know if this knife is really that old?

The schrade 51OT "Big Timer" was made from 1978 to 1981 and came with a nice leather sheath. At 4 3/4" closed it is no small or lightweight knife. It's last retail price is listed in the 1981 schrade catalog for $33.95. There is no + stamp on this pattern indicating stainless blades like schrade usually did, but they are in fact stainless and the backspring appears to be stainless as well from my examples and the others I've seen. There may have been some early ones that had carbon blades, but that is speculation.

This knife satisfies both of the title sponsors, as it is a Schrade made by Camillus in the early '80s. Nearly identical in size to the 834UH, this one differs in the round bolsters, non-Swindon construction, Turkish clip main, and just the one spring pin.

898UH 3.38" closed
