I think it can be done. Take the svord peasant. Do a replacement set of scales that gives you a hole where the hole in the tang is. Use a removeable bolt setup. When you open the knife, insert the bolt through the scale and tang. Effectively making it a fixed blade. Take the bolt out and fold again.

The closest thing that I'm aware of is the Spyderco TUFF; with CPM-3V blade-steel. It was designed to be a folding, fixed blade, and generally takes two hands to open the blade. Perhaps the next closest is the Benchmade model 0275...a very nice knife in D2.

I thought were playing around at first, but now it seems you're serious. Which is disconcerting. Maybe this video will clear things up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHeAgF2wUUE

Of course I am playing around. The knife that you and I posted at the beginning (and a friction folder with a long tang), is the closest you can come to a fixed blade folder. I'm on the outskirts now. knives that are solid with a folding like action. You have to play with a subject like this. Also the reason why that knife from DPX exists is because, we are striving to make a "Fixed Folder".

If you look up that DPX blade it is found on the fixed blade section and not the Folding section. So lets both be wrong and enjoy the thread eh?

I posted the DpX in response to someone who was trying to recall an example of a fixed blade with a swinging guard.

The closest someone has come is the suggestion of a friction folder that you bolt closed.

Like this one?

The pivot screw is the one by the index finger groove. The pin below it can be taken out and inserted into the hole by the spine which goes through both the handle and blade tang.

For the record i voted turtle.

Is this a folder or fixed?

What knife is this?

Technically no - fixed and folder are different animals (or vegetables). That said, the CRKT M4 is about as close as it comes IMHO. When the safety lock is engaged, it is basically impossible to close the knife.

What about a modified balisong in which only the bottom part of the handle moves, and the top part of the handle is fixed with the blade (via full tang)? Then, the bottom part of the handle is free to move up, while the blade can pivot relative to and towards the "fixed" bottom handle position.

I love the look of the knife, frame lock would be a huge plus in my book as well.

And thanks, i Didn't realize i hit 1000 lol
Snody friction folder. Loved the ergos and blade shape but would have preferable it as a liner or frame lock.

Congrats on 1000 posts!

But what if the folder is born and identifies with being a fixed blade and wants to transition?
