can someone explain to me why there is a maxpedition boycott?

Stropper: I find it funny that the magazine article that has been a fulcrum for the "axis of evil" in this whole nonsensical affair was published while Mr. Mick was in jail. AND YET..... you assume he read it. Reeeallly. meh.

NOW, even if Mick DID read the article while he was "away"... do you think the first thing on his mind when he got out was to "rectify an error in print" from a year or more before? Oh god please.

Can we all use some logic here? PLEASE?

Michelle, here's what Mick Strider says about the availability of magazines in jail:

""When I went to prison, I learned about knife magazines.
What? There is such a thing as knife magazines??!!
I would read the things Kevin Mclung would write as often as I could. Just like a lot of guys here, I thought he was pretty cool. He was not like all the other writers back then. Much more scientific and real world. He would even mention the type of equipment he used to do the testing.
Very Cool! I remember how stoked I was to read about two of my favorite handle materials in one article. G10 and Para-Cord. Sweet!
One of the VERY best parts of prison, was when a new knife mag would come in with an article written by Kevin.""

Mick got out in '98, right Michelle?
Looks like you didn't read the 2002 article that was published by "american handgunner". (that's 4 years after his release, 2002!)

In it, you can read all about Mick's so-called SOCOM overseas combat experience and how he was on one of those missions in '94.

What about all the Strider-fans who came up to Mick on knife-shows etc..., and mentioned his special forces past?
What kind of vague nonsense did he have to feed them to keep his reputation alive?
Or did you know many Strider owners who DIDN'T think Mick was once BlackOps?

It's like you said: can we all use some logic here!

For David1967... Here is your apology for calling you a commie.... no real excuse other than to say it was late and you put Lynn Thompson in line next to my friend.

No problem.... I knew my post would cause you to respond (you guys take it tooo seriously). Anyway - in the end - it is only about money - IMO.

David

PS: I wish I had time to visit one of the knife shows in US since most of my knives come from there...

I have tried to stay out of this, largely because I'm pretty much fed up with the forums anyway, and am completely fed up with the cowardly backbiting BS that goes on here. This particular case seems to be devolving into a Europe vs the US issue, but there's nothing new with that, is there?

Mick Strider is my friend, unequivocally. He is, without question, one of the finest men I've ever known. He is intelligent, gifted, generous to a fault, pleasant to be with, a man of courage and conviction, and a man with a haunted past. Most who know Mick know all these things, including the past. We consider Mick one of our most valued friends.

I have never heard Mick say he was in Special Forces. I have heard him say he was with the Rangers, and in fact I attended the Best Ranger Competition at Ft Benning with Mick and several of his other friends this year, where he GAVE AWAY a large number of knives to the Rangers for them to distribute as they saw fit. I also know that Mick is viewed with respect by the Rangers who are old enough to know of him if not know him personally. One of the First Sergeants took us on a guided tour of 75th headquarters where they display their memorabilia. It was a very special occassion that would never have happened, but for Mick. I was also there while Mick spoke and prayed with an old comrade whose name was listed on a pillar at the Ranger Memorial.

I happen to know for a fact that Mick attended the Army JWTC (Jungle Warfare Training Center) course in Panama; I know this because I also attended that school and we discussed details of both the course and Ft Sherman where it was based. For those who don't know, this was a very intensive and challenging school and all who passed the course are pretty proud of that fact. How tough? One guy in the unit I was with wanted out of it so badly shot himself by firing a blank while he held his hand over the muzzle of his rifle.

How in the hell can anyone who's never served at all try to discredit this man? Accusations from a man who has clearly demonstrated he isn't credible, having represented he was in the military for 5 years (a peculiar number BTW) and having written a book with outrageous claims he suggested were autobiographical until forced to admit otherwise, can hardly be admissible as evidence of character in anyone. Buy hey, I've had my run-ins with Kevin's groupies as well. They voted my knives as the worst of 2003, or maybe that was 2004, I forget. I can live with that, but I think it's characteristic of a pattern of bashing they have sponsored for a number of years, and which grows more outrageous and desperate each year as their star declines.

Sadly, I've also seen some of this jealousy in other knifemakers who simply can't understand why someone would pay $400 for a bead blasted, paracord wrapped knife, when they can't sell nearly as many satin finished, fancy wood handled versions of their own at $250. (Note to those who think this way. It isn't about the finish!)

In any case, until you have met Mick, face to face, and can see for yourself what kind of man he is, don't judge. All you can base your judgement on is distant history or hearsay. You know nothing of the man. Mick Strider is a man I love as a brother, and I hurt like a brother when I read the venom that's being spewed about him on these forums by those I deem unworthy to lick his jump boots. And yes you can be in the Ranger Regiment without having been to Ranger School. I have another friend, also a knifemaker, who was in the Regiment and in fact taught at the Ranger School, because he had special skills in long range reconnaisance, honed in Viet Nam.

If you're still in doubt, look me up at a knife show sometime; I'll be glad to introduce you to Mick so you can see for yourself why those who know him think he hung the moon.

No, I am not a psychic but I play one on television.

(a 5 year old could have figured out how this one would end up but at least we got some great photos of snapping turtles out of it.)

Yes, a little bit of popcorn left. And, I WILL see you in Chicago, where I'll be buying more Striders! :)

Wow cant believe this is still going, but after reading all of this, I got this uncontrollable urge to buy more Striders, so I just bought 2 and they are being shipped out today. This will make it 8 that I have now, but over 12 that I have bought.
(Damn you James!)

Just a pic of my latest one. I'd like to get the handle grooved still though. Cough * Coogler * Cough

I especially like this one because it looks like two distinct grinds in stead of the usual ones you see where it is more of a curvy single grind. (If you understand what I'm saying badly.) I even had it in my pocket yesterday but I'm back to my production recurve SMF today. (I didn't like the look of the recurves at first but they definately grow on you.)

Stropper, I can't PM you and you don't have email info available. I promised I wouldn't chew up any more of BFs bandwidth on this, so if you would like to take it offline, that's all good... my email addy is posted.

Oilman, what a gorgeous knife.... that is my dream combination. Is that Ranger green or OD? Looks like RG in the pic.

Mr. Hossom, beautiful post.

And yet again somebody who has probably never dealt with or bought a Strider knife but likes to stir the pot....

You are wrong on all counts. I DO like Strider's folding knives allot and have owned/handled just about all of them. I just think that statement I agreed with is 100% correct regardless of what side of the fence you sit on

HA! figured out a way to post STRIDERS AND COOGLERS together in perfect harmony :D IF WP's are like POM POM's then tag me a stridette :D Micks blades and James hardware...Enjoy.

Loandr.

Michelle, it's Ranger Green. My pics seem to be off a bit colorwise or it's too close to the deeper green. I don't know what it is about that particular color but I really like it. Schweet. My next one will be the Tanto SMF from Blue Line Gear. Hopefully.

And since we all love each other again, or at least respect everyone's opinions a little bit how about some more kick ass knives? Here's some of mine: (There were a bunch more pics but it wouldn't post with the original amount.)

You even have a shroud cutter?! Dang. Nice collection there.

From some one on the outside looking in...
I have absolutely no interest in Strider or Mad Dog knives.
I don't think there is anything wrong, bad or anything else, with either maker/brand.
Total disinterest.
They just don't float my boat.

So why am I posting?

Just to say:
Listen to yourselves.
Forget Mick and the Mad Dog for a minute.

Both sides sound like little kids in a schoolyard.
Yankees
Mets
Yankees

Oh yeah? My daddy can kick your daddy's butt!

On and on.
The word "warrior" was used many times.
Is this the way "warriors" behave?
Veterans?
Grown men?

Funny how this 'stuff' only happens with the highspeedlowdrag personalities. Buyers, makers, wanna be fans et al.

Someone (or two) said that it was all about money.
Both parties will sell every knife they make, no problem.

It's all about ego.
The principals and the participants.

Ebbtide,
And then there's the snapping turtle...Mick doesn't have one in his front pocket but I'm not sure about the others.

I know, I know....you guys are saying that crazy old Kaintuckee fart is lost. Really, I'm not. Go back and read #123, and what Jerry said. Forget about all that stuff that those young guys said. Jerry and I are old and wise.

Nope, sold both of them to people who could use them better than I.

Stropper pretty well has it covered, Michelle, I appreciate the reference to Isabella and Zylon, but I thought we would keep this to the topic at hand.

Brandon, please respond, as I get a kick out of envisioning the spittle all over the keyboard.

Oh, and guys, so y'all remember - the weapon was a Sig 226, and the arrest was made in Durango CO after the "test drive."

You may continue to post pics of your favorite SNG - I like the etched razorwire by the way.
