can someone explain to me why there is a maxpedition boycott?

Ebbtide,
And then there's the snapping turtle...Mick doesn't have one in his front pocket but I'm not sure about the others.

I know, I know....you guys are saying that crazy old Kaintuckee fart is lost. Really, I'm not. Go back and read #123, and what Jerry said. Forget about all that stuff that those young guys said. Jerry and I are old and wise.

Kit really is a wise man and should be listened to. This thread should have been locked a long time ago. Parker and the TF crew are not going to give up on their attack. What purpose is there in leaving this thread open??

I hear ya Kit, got a little gray in my beard too. ;)
Still don't get the snapping turtle bit, but then again, what does this city kid know?
:D

Well, well, well. Parker is back to stir the crap. What happened did Mad Dog tell you that it was getting too calm over here and you had better get back here with your paddle?? Now, what the hell does the make of the gun and where Mick was arrested have anything to do with anything?? God it must be lonely over there on MD's forum.

I will go back to the original question and say this again.....

1. I believe, but do not know, that the Maxpedition boycott started on USN.
2. Mick Strider did not ask for people to boycott anything.
3. Other then being attack for his past (paid for to the State of California's satisfaction), questioned about stories written about him (not by him), and advertising, and all the other great wide and gathering stories.... Mick did nothing but make knives and sell them.... THE END

Hi All-

Excellent knife pictures above. I like the "businesslike" matte finish. Those look like cool, custom-embroidered Maxpedition Razorshell pouches that come with the knives.

Actually I think those are CSM Tactical Gear pouches.....

Hi BLMcK-

They're pretty nice no matter what the brand. The customized logo is certainly a nice touch.

I tried to let this die, but some just can't, so here goes with some firsthand. info. I wrote the American Handgunner article in question. It was extensively edited (not by Roy Huntington), as it was one of the first articles I ever wrote. See, I am a full time cop, and a hobby writer, so I seem to get editorial help on a lot of my stuff (this is very common, especially with full time cop writers because we write in "police report style", which doesn't sell). First the facts. I originally wrote that Mick and Duane were out of the country and not "deployed". This obviously doesn't sound as sexy. The key was, I knew exactly where Duane was, and what he was doing, and it was overseas Combat and not with Uncle Sam (while Mick was in jail I was pretty close with Duane). In the case of Mick, I knew he went to jail, and didn't feel it was neccesary to drag his name through the mud. During the period in question, it was between the time Mick was in the Army and his incarceration. I was told of what he was doing by a third party, and most references to Mick were fairly vague. The article was also fairly vague as well, with good reason. The only goof I might have done was on some of the dates, which were based solely on my memory. I also left a ton of other stuff out of the article.

An important point left out was that I began using Striders because Kevin McCLung failed to deliver a very expensive custom breaching tool that I needed for work. McClung was a year late on a promised delivery, but I failed to discuss this because I didn't want to crap all over Kevin, just like I didn't want to crap all over Mick. I have owned over 20 custom Mad Dogs over the years and have known Kevin long enough to have heard first hand his claims of being a CIA sniper in Central America, working for the Director of Operations for the CIA in Central America and the Middle East, being an undercover Narcotics Agent, a professional soldier, having been recruited by the CIA for a school for the genius (this is now a "fictional account, but Kevins wife sent e-mails out many years ago swearing to the veracity of these claims), Kevin claims to have been in "hundreds" of knife fights since age 9 , but not a single piece of documentation exists, and I would love to see the medical reports or police reports. Of course Kevin must have never been injured and the cops never called in the hundreds of incidents. See, many of us who knew Kevin used to just blow these things off as B.S., but it was amusing, and Kevin made good knives and holsters. But now Kevin is the holy see of honesty. Okay, I call B.S. Mr. McClung, now YOU prove it. Mick put up his DD214. Now its your turn genius, and I have the sources available to check the stuff if you want to provide proof of any of the above claims.

As far as media, I have a Japanese Knife mag that has the words CIA used over and over in reference to you......a translation is forth coming, and I will want to see proof or a retraction of your claims as well.

I am amused at his whole thing in this forum. Mick is a friend to most knifemakers. I have enjoyed walking knife shows with Mick, where his common response almost every maker he meets is nothing but compliments and accolades. He often sends folks from his table to others to see great work. McClung on the other hand does nothing but crap on everyone and has in print slammed the great forgers of the knife world, and criticized some of the foremost heat treaters. Sounds like a real knife community guy......or a jealous individual who can't stand someone else in the limelight.

Military contracts, McClung got one of the most coveted contracts out there, and pissed it away by selling the S.E.A.L. knives from the contract to the public. This was of course the Navy's fault in Kevin's eyes. I owned numerous S.E.A.L. A.T.A.K.'s , including a CNSWG 2 (the military marked one), 0026, A620, a C series and a recent one with a different black finish.
So I may know a thing or two about this.

Much of this whole thing was started with a beef over one of the involved parties in this thing posting the address where an idividuals kids and ex-wife lived on the internet while the said individual was in a Islamic controlled country doing some good work at ridding this world of some fanatical bad guys. The Strider guys took exception to this, and it has slid downhill from there. So I guess Micks kids are fair game now.....real honorable.

Mick has been very straight forward with me on his jail time. He has many cops who are very close to him. He did one crime, he manned up and took the punishment, and has overcome. I have zero beef with how he has choosen to carry himself since his own admitted mistake. I would trust my kid with him without hesitation.

The folks involved in much of this have never in their life laid their hand on a bible and sworn an oath to protect the Constitution on the United States, never been in the military, yet have the balls to question those who have. To call Ryan Reunart a REMF after the guy has been to the Sandbox four times as a door gunner on a Combat Search and Rescue helicopter is pretty ballsy. The only people involved who have a right to question Micks Ranger claims are the Ranger associations.....but they seem to be on Mick's side (ask Horned Toad). These same folks tried this crap on Duane Dwyer awhile back, and it blew up in their faces. Mick was an easy target, so what the heck. Zero Honor-period. I only wish that the folks involved had been hugged by their mommy's more often, they wouldn't be so insecure.

One of my favorite quotes about Mick is that he is "the epitome of a good soldier". Take that for what it is worth. He screwed up, and has done nothing but good things since then. His only recent crime is being a target because he is a part of a corporation that has been very successful over the last several years. Personally, I sold off every Mad Dog knife I owned because I couldn't stand looking at them any longer. I sold off almost all my Maxpedition gear because I choose PERSONALLY to no longer do business with this company due to their association with McClung and his camp. I am banned from TF for supporting another individual who was lied about and had his character assasinated. I am also not associated with the USN and have banned myself from there a long time ago, so I apologize for air this here, and would not have done so except for the moderators allowing the thread to continue. If I have offended any BF moderators with this post, I apologize for airing this here.

I served in the United States Navy, mostly onboard the USS Sacramento (AOE-1) from 1987 until Honorably Discharged, RE-R1, December,1990. I got out a month early due to personnel rotation. I would be happy to post my DD-214 (with SSN and B-day blacked out) to satisfy any questions.

I have posted in the past that I do not care for Strider Knives, as they do not float my boat. I do not care for Mad Dog knives, for a variety of reasons, the biggest one being that I think they are highly overpriced. I DO own a couple of Kit's knives, some Bob T's, John W. Smith, CRK...I like tactical knives, but only to a point, certainly not exclusionary to the many other beautiful styles of knives available.

I could never understand, and do not understand the high degree of drama that goes along with the "Tactical Knife Knut". Why does it have to be like this? I never saw slipjoint collectors go at each other tooth and nail like this, same for ABS bowie collectors.

Spark jumped all over some of us for the "chiclet fiasco", right or wrong. I thought/think it is dead wrong, but that is just my opinion. I always held BladeForums to a higher standard, and even though the last 20+ page post on Kyle Eichenseer seemed to beat the horse to dog chewies, it had a point, and eventually got resolved, to the credit of all.

THIS thread is a big pile of cow manure, dragged over from numerous Other forums to be continued here. That is crap, again in my opinion. The original question was asked, innocently enough, and succinctly answered with enough detail to satisfy the most demanding of posters. Then the mudslinging starts. Who cares? This is a private matter being handled publicly, and inappropriately. Those of you continually adding fuel to the fire (BLM and Parker, to name names) should just drop it. End of story. Take it back where it belongs, and squelch it. I always appreciated that threads do not get prematurely locked here, and that it is left to the Community to determine what is an ongoing issue, and what is carrion.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Oilman,you got mail brother!

Even though the big guns have come in here and set some things straight,it will still go on.

I've only met Mick and that other guy once, you know the pool cleaning boy!

Exchanged a few emails and pm's for advice.......But thats all it took to find out they are my kinda people.

I could really care less what all you other frootloops say.Cause I know you WOULD NOT walk up to either of these mens faces and say it!

Anyway,

BUY MORE STRIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh,i'm sorry is that spam again?

JamesCoog, you've managed to kind of disrespect what a lot of "non-adolescent, clear thinking guys" have said, in support of Mick Strider (who you obviously support), I'd not be broadly calling folks on the forum here fruitloops (though I know you meant "those not on your side").

Reading Jerry Hossom's post, the info from Kit Carson and others here, who could but come to the grasp that Mick is a good guy of character, no need for you to be calling names and still beefing up, makes one wonder if you even read STeven G's post. Might want to re-read it, seriously.

To Mick's credit, anybody who has earned the kind of friendships that have been expressed here, that doesn't happen by accident or deceit.

Jerry's, Kit's and nyeti's input, those cards on the table take all the question marks out of it, took some pages but I don't see any confusion left here LOL.

why is it like this vs like slip joint folks would handle it??

easy answer imho..........

a LOT more $$money$$ is involved in this vs slip joints imho, this is all about M*O*N*E*Y imho.

Greg, it's not the money. Ebbtide is right, it's the ego. There's big money in many collectible knives, art knives, classic collections. There's lying, cheating, and stealing involved, too, sometimes. But only the tacticals seem to draw this kind of feeding frenzy.

Amazingly, some of these people think they're making their guy look good by their aggressive and arrogant advocacy. Nothing said here is going to turn me against Mick Strider or his knives, but I do believe I have come to seriously dislike a few of his self-styled friends.

This stuff is actually sad for the whole knife community. This is the type of back biting B.S. that plagues the so called "tactical community". Personally I like "tacticals" (as Mick says "for war") knives because I use them professioanlly as tools. I am as passionate about my edged tools as I am about the the ones that go bang. With that said, one of my favorite things to do at knife shows is to walk around and just look and admire the works of makers who do great things that are just not my cup of tea. It is one of the neat things about Mick and Duane. THey like making tools for soldiers, cops, firefighters, emergency medical specialists, and others who need knives for an abusive use environment. Both have now broken out of that mold and expanded their talents into other areas of knife making. Its a great thing to see. Both are also very humble in this regard. I have also gotten sort of counter tactical. I have gotten into some forged and pretty knives. I have begun getting into fun guns and old stuff and have tried not to take this stuff to seriously.

Hopefully, everyone will settle down and try to quit competing with each other at this disgusting level. I have known the Strider guys for years. I have watched Mick answer most peoples questions at shows about his background with a simple "I was in the Army". Look at the PAID Strider ads, no horn blowing, usually just a picture and contact info. Most of the hype has come from a couple of forums that are fascinated with tactical stuff, and media outlets in a variety of places. If I was part of that, then my bad. Most of my writing deals with profiling good gear and those who make it, nothing more, nothing less. No grand conspiracy or intent to make stuff up. Its a real shame that some folks have crawled so far down the sewer that they can't be happy if somebody gets some good press or attention.

I have two articles coming out about a couple smaller and lesser known makers in the future (just like Strider was when I started writing about them). Hopefully, they won't have to endure this same kind of garbage when their day comes.

Sir I don't know you nor would I take it upon myself to judge you based solely on what I had read. Be it good or bad.

I typed what I typed for the good or evil that people may see,
that my friend is better than me. (I am really bad at rhymes)

Aggressive, yeah maybe, but that is who I am. I am not a nice guy on occasion, in my past there are things that I am not proud of. But if you are my friend then I will do what I can to help you and sometimes eggs get broken to make the omelet. Were it you who was my friend and someone spread lies about you or half truths, then I would be there to defend you as well. This is about money and petty jealousy and yeah ego..... but none of it Mick's. You can say what you want about any it.... but that is the only real truth. nyeti put it out there for you to read, if that is not the truth then well I guess nyeti isn't the real writer after all. And while all lot of you may pass judgement that some of us who came in here and rode rough shod all over this... just remember this, if we were your friends we would do the same thing.... right or wrong I hope you can see that counts for something. I find most of this sad some of it amusing and Coog out right hilarious; Cougar as well with the snapping turtle, although I have not really figured that out.... I will continue to roam about and post where the thought grabs me, some may not like it and others may hate it out right... oh well.

my $.02. I was over on mad dog's forum when this little would be smear campaign got started. I am relatively new to the internet "knife world" and knew absolutely nothing about Mad Dog knives and very little about Strider before all of this started.

Ok. Where to start. I think that Mad Dog has made himself tinfoil hat emperor over his little forum. I believe that he has read a few spy novels and knows what plausible deniability is and so, probably as a result of megalomania, thinks he and his band of cohorts are intelligent enough to pull the wool over the world's eyes.

I spent maybe 3 days browsing and watching at Tac forums. I have never in my life seen a moderator (and owner of the forum) start so much crap, do so much backpedalling, lock so many threads and edit so many posts all in the span of just a few days.

After some of the juicier threads disappeared I started saving other ones. Lucky too, I have 2 or 3 threads that just aren't there anymore.

I was going to go on but just realized that I feel unclean typing this. I feel badly for Mad Dog's followers and have only this to say to them, "Now he is a rocket scientist too?"

Never liked the looks of Strider knives, I have to be honest. However, all of this stupidity is making me think I need a good strong tactical folder... in tiger stripe camo!

roughedges, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with that post. I couldn't have said it any better myself. Except for the part about not liking Strider knives. But to each his own. I can appreciate that!!
