Remember I asked for insight.

But since you ask, no, that 2003 statement by Thompson does not sound like Strider, the person or the company. MANY makers are turning out knives that, to be kind, are "in the style of" Strider fixed-blades - paracord, stripes, and all.

Number of knife-makers at the 2003 BLADE show referenced by the article, who had:

a. Two-toned, para-cord wrapped blades.
b. Military personnel, and former mil personnel present in cammies, with trousers bloused in to their jump boots.
c. Large company logos, (whether fearsome or not, I can't say what might scare LT et al...) emblazoned on the back of t-shirts, and sweatshirts.
d. Company slogans that reference "Highspeed/Hardcore"

I'm only seeing one company that fits this bill. Perhaps, I'm working hard to see the offense heaped on my friends, here...but then it doesn't take much to see the veiled insults that Cold Steel has intimated.

Mick makes knives , they rock , he stands behind them. he is a good person , someone I trust and respect. I care not what MadDog says or his puppies , care not what Cliff Stamp says , I will continue to call Mick a friend , nothing anyone can say will change that. and if Mick ever needed a place to live , well i got 1200 sq ft of shop space out back with a room with his name on it...

oh and for those that may ask , no I have never been in the military in any shape or form , never ran for office , did run from the cops a few times , certainly ran from my dad MANY times.

I know I registered at this sight, just because of this thread but has the guy that asked the initial question ever spoke again. I would have thought if it was a big enough concern that you had to ask you might at least acknowledge the responses, unless getting an answer was not as important as stirring the pot

Why is there a Maxpedition boycott?
Uh, for me its because:
1. I can get better gear from CSM or BDS
2. I don't like the fact that the owner/mouth piece sent emails to collectors with the intent to de-value their inventory.
3. I'm a Corrections Officer, I deal with the dregs of our society every day, Mick aint one. I see every kind of piece of human filth daily, from CDS distributers to baby rapers. Mick aint one.
4. I am a soldier have been for 16 years. I've been through minefields, artillery, and direct fire. When I I've talked to Duane I get the feeling he has as well. I ain't gonna ask and I don't really care. They make a good product for Joe and they cut the price for him too. That tells me these guys are squared away.
5. If some no time in service POGUE wants to bag on a trooper for not going to a "school" he can start with me. I am not a spook and I've never played one on T.V. but by JHC I have cleared their routes and bunkers, and I do know difference between a warrior and a "shake en bake".

"... but has the guy that asked the initial question ever spoke again ..."

Yes, he did, a few posts farther down, and even before powernoodle's explanation.

He said, "yeah, i knew there was no boycott here. i was just looking to get a concise version of what's going on elsewhere without starting a big mess over there, thats why i looked here. no worries though, i found what i was looking for and have a clearer picture of the mess."

Why would he need to acknowledge the subsequent argumentative, dogpiling, buy-a-strider whooping, whining, and wailing from a crew that just found this forum, for purposes of ... whooping, whining, and wailing?

You should act more like Mick Strider and tell the !#@%$^%& who tried to libel him to go ^%@* themselves, and then drop it. But no, the beat goes on ...

Pass the )(J$G&V popcorn.

Toad

I t is just my guess that doorkicker got what he needed from the first few responses and opted not to post back after the way this thread deteriorated.

As a rule of thumd, for me anyway, I try not to jump right in after joining someplace and question a paying member about his integrity. I have delt with him before he is usually not one to stir the pot. Sometimes a question is just that, a question. I for one did not even know that there was anything going on with Maxpedition..

Anyway, welcome aboard. Sorry if I sounded harsh.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

14 friggin pages because I offhandedly said Maxpedition "punked out" & they had a "bad owner"

Then Parker Pirated my for sale thread WOWWY WOW WOW

I thought when I got the personel e-mail from Tim Tang (Mr. Maxpedition)
Threatening me for something. That was a big deal but this WOW

Hey for the record;

I have met Kevin McClung 3 or 4 times at Pheonix gun show where I sell my holsters, & he has never;
1.been pleasent
2.had anything nice to say (other than about himself)
3.Been anything but RUDE, I have met & conversed with other kydex makers & am friends with lots of them, Heck I have been a customer of Blade-techs for 6 years ,buying tec-locs , screws & what not. When kevin came to my table he starts putting down my work to me ! Saying his gun glove holsters are the only properly made holsters out there, I was polite & let him leave

I have even went so far as to last year at the SAR show saying to a friend whos table I was at "he can't be that much of a self absorbed jerk, I will be extra nice this time, to him & see" I was extra nice as he did not rember me as the holster maker. But none the less he proved me wrong by going off the handle about a Mission knife my friend had on the table, going on & on about how they stole his Navy Seal contract, wasn't that like 15 years ago

I have also met Tim Tang at the SHOT show a couple of years ago, did not much care for him either, I did not know him, just had a feeling about him.
Admitately I got caught up in the "man purse" craze like everyone else, but after reading the whole story on all the forums. I desided he needed no more of my money. After his threatening E-mail that just re-enforced my "feeling" about him."bad owner" no honor = no money.

I have also met & hung out with Mick Strider
He is a cool guy in my book, I have kinda known him for quite a few years (pre Tiger Striped blades) although I have only really hung out & got to know him preety well this year. All this time I never heard him say anything about his military time untill at Blade at Justin's (Ranger knives) table they were telling Ranger stories. He is far from being a look at me guy, all I have seen was a laid back cool guy that I had thought he was.
In fact he is one of a few knife makers that have been up front with me from the get go & said he does not care about sheaths, he does not have time to fool with them, so he makes quick knife holders & if the customer wants a cool one they can see me. He also does not want to delay the knives to his customers by having to send them to me first. Also before all this broke I offered to make him some holsters for his personel use & he told me he could not have guns because of something stupid he did when he was young, that was all he needed to say to me because I understood.

So in conclusion:

I have met & I like MICK STRIDER he is a friend & I buy his knives

I have met & I do not like Kevin McClung or Tim Tang & will not buy thier products.

You are all adults & can make your own choices, thanks for listening

Nobody mentions lynn thompson because he doesnt matter in the serious world of knives. He and cold steel knives are just that punch line in a few jokes.
maxpedition was one of a group of at least 4 that hired someone to gather information on Mick and Duane.

To me, the real issue is WHY they gathered and sent out and released this information.
It wasnt to warn people that Mick is a bad person.
It wasnt to let people know they should lock their car doors.
It wasnt for any good reason.
It wasnt for the public good.

It was strictly done by a few people jealous of the success of Strider knives, jealous that almost every month Strider knives are on at least one magazine cover, and envious of how much money they perceive that Strider makes.

They thought it would be the downfall of Strider knives.
They were wrong.

Lifter,
I bring up Thompson because it has been said that he was the major financial backer of the "investigation" that started this debacle.

I just wish my SMF was back hom with "its" Daddy.

I'm sending some knives (a GB, check out his site to see what he did to another GB handle which I really liked, and that custom RG SMF to get grooved. I thought most customs were grooved but I haven't seen a green one yet.) to Coogler today and I already miss them even though I still have them. :( Plus, I still have a DDC in the spa that I'm hoping to get back soon. Waiting sucks. :grumpy: :grumpy:

I'm with ya Ron,

In reference to LT, I was at the Strider table in '03 (well, the Badlands Booth) when Duane saw Lynn walking down an adjacent aisle, and went over to talk with him about his comments. Lynn looked VERY nervous during said conversation. If he wasn't making veiled comments about Strider Knives, why be nervous when the co-owner comes over to clarify what you said?

Jerry, Kit, Nyeti, M1 - excellent posts. You've said everything that needs to be said.

Brandon - I still can't believe you're two-timing me for a Marine. What's he got that I haven't? Sure, the Class As are nice and all, but still! I thought you loved me...

In closing, would someone PLEASE buy one of Coogler's Striders, before he pops a vessel yelling about it? :D

I actually did see doorkickers post on the first page after I posted but I wasn’t going back through 400 plus posts,, I guess I cant sit still on this because I know that if you tell a lie long enough someone will eventually believe it and the squeaky wheel get the most grease, I can say I never met Kevin but I know he is ****ing coward because of the way he runs his forum. I will agree that that while there were some very good posts in this thread, over all it was a waste of bandwidth, but is a very good indication of how strongly people feel about this topic. It has been posted some but I hope that Kevin being the biggest coward of the bunch doesn’t cause people to forget that there where several other key players involved in this.

cerberus didn’t sound harsh at all would have been nice if I would have found out about this forum under better circumstances I agree
