Careers...

I'm 60 years old. I served in the U.S. Navy from '68-'72, got out did a few odd jobs then became a journeyman Brick Mason for 20 years. Got aggravated with the Union and started my own business, Mowing lawns, been mowing lawns now for 20 years. I'm into guns, knives, and motorcycles, not necessarily in that order.

HVAC for a couple years after H.S., 6 yrs in the Navy, a little more HVAC, now for the past 11 years I work in a nuclear power plant. First knife was a Craftsman liner lock hand me down from Dad, who then soon bought me a Buck 112 Ranger for Christmas. Man I worked hard to keep that brass shiny...I was so proud of that thing. Someone needed it more than me though, hope they didn't hurt themselves!

I remember reading a story a few years back about the Brits testing out the chicken cannon. One thing they forgot: using thawed chickens. Seems they shot a frozen bird and it completely destroyed the cockpit.

I wonder if they'd get better terminal ballistics using a hollow cavity chicken?

After growing up working on farms, I swore I would never be a farmer. Joined the USMC in 1990 and served through 1994. I loved it, but a rash of injuries forced me out during Clintons big force reduction.

Worked different odd jobs until 2000, at which point I went to work for a civil engineering company as a soil tech. Did that for a couple of years until the boss, who was and is a family friend told me "Your a lot smarter than this job. Get off your ass and do something with your brain". Ended up doing that and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2007 with a degree in history and a teaching license.

Taught high school social studies until the end of 2008, when I got a job working for our county. Technically speaking, my job title is "Client Services Technician", but what I really am is a GED instructor, math teacher and mentor. I mostly work with at-risk and gang kids, trying to keep them on track and out of jail by educating them. I can honestly say that I found the job for me with this one, and I plan on expanding my education more in this area. I just turned 39 on the 14th of this month.

Industrial Engineer/Manufacturing Engineer. Did 12 years in the Air Force working aircraft electronics on F-4D, KC/EC/RC-135 aircraft including Looking Glass and NEACP. 7 of the 12 years were spent in Europe with several trips to the Middle East and once into Africa. Earned my degree while on active duty (had a wife that gave me the time to study at home). My daughter is now 24 and spent time in the Navy and recently graduated as a RN.

I work in marketing for a small online university....In reading these posts it was interesting to see the diversity of people drawn to this forum.

Airline Pilot, 38 years old. Working behind airport security makes it impossible to 'EDC' anything, so I think of it as EDOC (every day off carry)

I'm a geophysicist, and manager of geophysical consulting company (minerals exploration), its a great job with lots of international travel, best of all I get paid to tromp around through the woods!

Current full time employment is a test engineer for shuttle/station/advanced exploration hardware with NASA at Johnson Space Center.

Its not as cool or as exciting as it sounds though.

My real passion is wildland fire fighting, I wanna be smoke jumping in a few years.
