"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I've never read the book, but parts of the film are filmed near Sheffield in the Peak District National Park :D

Very interesting, thank you. I just googled images of "Peak District National Park", and the IMDB page for the movie. I can see the connection; beautiful scenery.

If you know the Peak well, it's kind of weird as they keep jumping around, one second they're at Carl Wark, the next at Winnat's Pass 10 miles away! :D

Does anybody remember the tv show with Peter Falk called Columbo?
Do you remember the way he'd constantly pat all his pockets looking for his glasses?
I used to think he was an absent minded goofball, but I find myself doing the exact same thing now. o_O

Appearances are always deceptive :D Shakespeare revelled in that

I think in earlier episodes he was rummaging around in that filthy raincoat for boiled eggs or more likely, some sordid half-smoked cheap cigar  Only to unmask an arrogant crook with a brilliant penetrating insight:D All the more ironic, his way of looking directly at suspects, given Peter Falk had only one eye.

I've had to wear glasses since I was 7, some great decades of wearing contact lenses-all round vision I can still remember how amazed I was. But they began to be impossible as I grew older due to eyes drying out. I actually had to go to Casualty one night as the contact was STUCK on the eyeball as in dried on, eye began to bleed:eek: them getting it off was really not too pleasant:thumbsdown: I took to progressive lenses immediately, could enjoy billiards again and driving and being able to read the instruments and see ahead. But, I loathe wearing glasses, always have done. Expensive, always getting dirty.....steamed up when you come in from the cold...finding the b-s when you wake up:D I like small lightweight rimless glasses and have withering contempt for a female 'colleague' who wears glasses for 'fashion reasons' when the lenses in them are plain glass as she's very fortunate to have perfect vision....pearls before swine :D

I was watching McMillan and Wife reruns a while back, and was surprised how few of them there were. But considering that they were part of the NBC Mystery Theater, rotating with Columbo and McCloud and in the end Hec Ramsey, yeah, there weren't that many.
The best thing about McCloud was that Terri Garr was an almost regular. I got a little tired of the "Now, Joe, they ain't no use in baitin' a fish trap with a bird whistle" sort of stuff.

I was eyeing that one Randy. Thanks for removing the temptation. Figured it was just as you describe it. Glad you grabbed it.

Thanks Dwight that knife has the best F&F of any knife I've ever owned and just feels like like quality in hand I'm so glad I bought it.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences with progressive lenses and bifocals. I appreciate the encouragement and commiseration.

That’s how I have in mind to use them. I often find myself without my reading glasses when I’m out and about and would prefer to carry them on my face when I might need them. :)

I’m trying to wear them all of the time for a few days to get used to them, but plan to have a current set of readers for books and crosswords and the like. Interestingly, but not surprisingly, it’s the intermediate distance where I’m seeing unexpected benefit. I guess I hadn’t realized that distance was a bit out of focus.

Edit: oh yeah, and it’s nice to be able to have my phone in focus without it being an arm’s length away. ;)
Hopefully you don't have this problem... once again, everything comes back to Seinfeld :)

I'd hate to think what Kramer would have to say about the shirt I wore today. November 29 was my mother's birthday, and on that date each year, in her memory, I wear this shirt she once made for me (unsolicited ).

GT, has your mom’s birthday ever coincided with a test day? That shirt with your “test tie” would be quite a combination! :D
