My grandma’s cookie recipe, which we recently made for Christmas, calls for Oleo, as well. I’m sure she used margarine, but we just use butter. I should’ve taken a picture of some of the cookies, but they always disappear rather quickly! :D

The original Oleomargarine (lard) made a better cookie and pie crust according to my late grandmother (born in the late 1880's). Even today, if you can find it, nothing makes a better biscuit or pie crust than lard.

Del... here is my Mom's recipe (if you can read her cursive writing o_O),... FYI... OLEO = BUTTER :D ...

As someone raised on a dairy farm, I've been interested in the history of butter, oleo, margarine, oleomargarine, and related legislation (usually to protect the dairy industry). (Not sure if I've ever had food made with lard; all I can ever remember my mom using was margarine or Crisco.)

Lard is pork fat. Still readily available at your grocery store. Depending on which studies you believe, it may be healthier for you than using partially hydrogenated processed seed oils (like Crisco).

I'm of the opinion that, in moderation, it won't kill you immediately :D My doc says unless you're a diabetic, sugar (again in limited amounts) is better for you than artificial sweeteners. One of my friends told me his sister in law's idea of going on a diet was to drink a can of Sego (a diet drink from the 60's for you youngsters) and eat everything in the refrigerator.

"limited amounts" is always the catch 22. I've cut out both natural and artificial sweeteners. Works best for me to just eradicate the taste for sweet things. Not diabetic but I have a genetic pre-disposition to it, and a family history of it. I also have a genetic pre-disposition to (and family history of) longevity so I'd like to help THOSE genes along. :)

Kinda like a double *bacon* cheeseburger with extra cheese n' bacon with a large chili cheese fries to go! ;)

"Anything to drink?" "I'll have a large diet coke."

Nope! If your gonna go *large* you might as well go *wide* and have a double thick chocolate malt too!:D:p

Not that I know "anything" about what I just typed.

My old body had a heck of a time on the ladder today (finally cleared the eaves, probably just in time).
By the way, can we say "he*l"? I'm thinking of changing my avatar.

There are so many better words...

Of course it depends on how it is incorporated into the name. I've always thought this would be a crackerjack user name...

But this one wouldn't work

He** and Da** aren't considered cuss words here in England, so we don't have alternatives such as 'Heck' and 'Darn'. After so long here on The Porch, I find myself using these latter words in everyday life, and getting some very odd looks for doing so, far more so than for the saltier language I occasionally employ! :D

Not cuss words in my house either, just abiding by forum rules. ;)
