"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I was searching the web for a retailer of Laguiole knives in Canada.

On the first page of the results I hit this company and the description -

Laguiole knives & Corkscrews. We are rusted worldwide since 2002.

Maybe they should look at some stainless steel for their products?

Needless to say I did not select their link.

I’m sure the retailer is sorry, but on behalf of the both of us and all other Canadians... we are collectively sorry. ;)

Being curious as to the phrasing shown in some of the Google search results, I've noticed the phrase "rusted worldwide since 2002" in several links listed, not just one. Odd thing is, if actually clicking on any them so far, that phrasing isn't coming up on actual sites linked. On one site for these knives in particular, it did actually say "Trusted worldwide since 2002" on the site's current page. Maybe these folks made the funny typo at some point in the past, or maybe it was the result of a hack as a prank, but then it was quickly fixed. Seems hard to imagine they wouldn't be alerted to it pretty fast.

I've noticed before, in searching on specific text strings on Google, sometimes the quoted search text in some link results seems to be a remnant of something older (archived) or long-since deleted or re-edited, not actually showing up when clicking to the current-day site's page. I notice it most often when trying to find a place to get older products that vendors don't carry anymore, but Google still manages to find it in older edits of the vendor site page anyway. Google seems to dredge up such expired stuff pretty regularly in their search results, which otherwise couldn't be seen anywhere.

On one of the sites to which I clicked, I was (very suspiciously) redirected to something completely different, unrelated to Laguiole or knives at all. Maybe an expired domain name bought up by someone else. Web-surfers beware...

Another hat related story,
So give a little back story, not many people wear a "cowboy" hat around here day to day. And then mostly by Mexicans, so I'm used to a few side glances from folks. But today I actually had someone ask me "Is that a REAL cowboy hat?" So being my natural self I answered " I don't know, I'm not a real cowboy" and walked away. Lol But honestly I don't consider myself one, to quote an old Hank Jr. Song "I'm a country plowboy, not an urban cowboy, I don't ride bulls, but I have fought some men"

I often wear a Stetson. Think there's a picture in the hats and knives thread.
A few years ago I had a basal cell carcinoma about 3/4" in diameter removed from my temple.
The dermatologist who called it said, "You don't wear hats, do you Frank."
I said, "Yes I do. Don't got much hair on the top, so I wear hats."
He says, "Ah, but you've been wearing baseball caps. You need to wear hats with brims."
So now I do.

Glad they was able to remove the carcinoma, I would like to get another Stetson but only one western clothing store close to me, and they don't carry the style I like. And a hat like boots is something I like to try on before I buy. I like what's came to be called "Gus pinch" crowns and wide brims. The old Renegade in the above pic is over about 4-3/4 inch brim. The palm Larry Mahan in my avatar pic is a 5 inch brim. Its my summer hat. Good hats, its seen 2 summers and still going strong

My favorite - not a spell check problem but and advert slogan that needed some editing - was seen on a panel truck advertising custom designed kitchen cabinetry -

"We are only limited by your imagination"

Hmm

That's a good reason. My boss wears them too, but flattens out the brim more to provide more protection.

Only two kinds of hats I ever worn since I was a kid was a baseball cap and a hard hat. I always have a baseball cap on.

I also wear a ball cap every day of the year, starting about 12 years ago, like Frank, on the recommendation of a dermatologist who said I have to keep the sun off my face, even during the winter. I don't think a cowboy hat like I'm wearing in my avatar pic would fit under my stocking cap, ninja hood, and parka hood that I wear over my ball cap during winter weather. But it might be something to consider for summer head gear.

Gary I just remembered a post of yours in the "What Traditional Knife Are You Totin' Today" thread where you had several I believe sodbusters on you and I could just imagine you with all your cold weather gear on and your pants around your knees from the weight of all those knives standing in the snow. :D:D:D
I know I know I'm supposed to be your friend and I truly am but that was just one very funny thought.

Great picture of your daughter and you, she sure does look a lot like you sir.

Baseball caps are great; got plenty of them. Wore hats (Stetson, panama, wool flat caps sometimes in winter, etc.) when I was younger, then wore baseball caps for about 30 years. Back to the hats mostly, but like both.
Good pic, Gary.

I made a trip down the NSW south coast last week...visit fiends, check out some real estale.
As it is summer hols here the roads authority have put trailers along the highway.
Basically big eletronic road signs with dot lights ....traffic conditions, fog warnings, safety messages.
One in particular caught my eye...
GOING BOATING
CHECK THE WEATHER
a good safety message
until some wag or maybe a disgruntled former roads employee changed it with deft use of black tape to say
GOING DATING
CHECK THE LEATHER.

most amusing.
