"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Baseball caps are great; got plenty of them. Wore hats (Stetson, panama, wool flat caps sometimes in winter, etc.) when I was younger, then wore baseball caps for about 30 years. Back to the hats mostly, but like both.
Good pic, Gary.
Thanks, Vince. :) Since I contracted the knife bug, I keep an eye out for knife-related caps. I currently have one from Buck, another from Böker, and a third from Rough Rider. I ought to pick up a Case model, since they're quite readily-available.

Same here with my daughter!
Probably a bad deal for modern American daughters to have fathers with "strong genes". Actually, my daughter inherited facial features and complexion/hair color similar to mine, but most of her other physical features (height, general build, metabolism, etc.) seem to be inherited from her mom. Daughter probably wishes the inheritance was just the opposite!

No offense GT, but she is much better looking ;)
That's a nice thing to say, John, and I'm certainly going to pass that on to her! :)

Gary, hailing from Michigan as you do, I am surprised you do not sport a Stormy Kromer.

Except for a palm leaf hat I don't wear much, the closest I come to a cowboy hat is this tortured Borsalino.

If that Borsalino had a 4 inch or bigger brim it'd be referred to as a "Gus pinch" after the hat wore by the character Gus in the Lonesome Dove movie. Before that it was called among other things a "Montana crease" not to be confused with the similar Montana pinch, or the Montana peak(think boy scout hat) crown styles. The Gus is my favorite crown style. I like it because looking at old photos of men in the Appalachians before the '40s it seems to have been a popular style. But my knowledge could be a bit fuzzy to be honest.

I have heard it described variously as a having a “Montana roll” or as “the hat that looks like a vagina”.

But what to wear in the summertime?

Why an Australian Akubra genuine rabbit fur felt hat. The one featured is the Coober Pedy ( after the opal mining town)
Modelled seductively here by world famous male hat model Mekio.
Seriously ...they make an incredibly large range of hats for the country that sports the hottest temps on earth.

Cool hat. Pun intended. But I thought Africa had the hottest temperatures? Won't be the first time I'm wrong. Or the 10,000th.

We recorded the 15 hottest temps one day last week.
Keep in mind they were all out in the desert where no one goes....except to land small planes and check the temp.
Near the place where the British tested nuclear bombs in the 50s.not holiday destinstions.

You can put me in the baseball-cap-every-day camp. :D Usually it's one of these made by Kavu, they're fantastic hats.

I'm pretty sure the kids aren't curving the bills of their ball caps anymore, but no one's ever accused me of being stylish.

I've got a wool flat cap that I like, but I don't wear it very often (usually I'll put it on if I'm headed somewhere a baseball cap might not be appropriate, but I can still get away with a "nicer" hat). Cowboy and other brimmed hats never seem to look right on me. Of course, now that we live in Minnesota, I should really be looking for a warmer option (so far I've just stuck with the ball cap, and I'll pull up the hood on my coat if it's really cold).

I'd like to visit, though.
I've received great souvenirs from friends and family that visited Australia: a kangaroo tie, a plastic saltwater croc, and a boomerang. ;)

Bet you'd look good in a fedora. Of course, you should wear a suit with it.

Despite living in the Arctic, I've never been too fond of wearing hats, but there are unavoidable times. Plus, as age advances, the hair (head..) is not as plentiful as it once was ;)

So, it's either a fur lined flying helmet -even in -30c your head sweats horribly in one but what can you do? Or a tweed type cloth-cap which has lately become trendy (unfortunately:D)

My Tilley hat (designed for yachtsmen, obviously;)) has been called a cowboy hat, but more often a pimp hat. It took me a while to get used to wearing a big-brimmed hat, but I'm uncomfortable without it now. If pimps are the only people smart enough to keep the precipitation off their glasses and the sun off their heads, call me a pimp. Too bad I don't have the managees to go with it, though.

(The hat doesn't always look so bell-shaped, and is seldom adorned with a Christmas ornament.)
