"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Sci Fi fans - especially those who enjoyed Firefly and the very fine Battle Star Galactica (2004 -2009) -
Trekies and Whovians too

I highly recommend - DARK MATTER. Sadly, it ends after 3 seasons (some have said - on a "cliff hanger") but we enjoyed it immensely and got enough of the best in the first 3 seasons not to need to get bogged down in what season 4 would have introduced - more dark and less matter. Available on NetFlix - don't know if elsewhere.

Yes, yes, yes. It was a great show. I was sad that it got cancelled, right when it was getting epic.
For lovers of Firefly, I would also recommend Killjoys. It has that same kind of "space western" feel to it, it's a lot of fun to watch.

Ooh..I just found this online. I might have to order one. :p

Rachel, that's a pretty cool hat.:thumbsup:;) Except for the inexplicable weird cat ear things sticking up (and the color), the shape reminds me of the pork pies @donn always posts in the Guardians thread - tasty!! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thinks it's finally time to replace this hat. She's been many places with me. I'm considering a campaign hat.

Looks like you've got plenty of service from that one @leghog.:thumbsup: It reminds me of the style of straw hat one of my grandpas wore in the summer when I was a kid, but he always got the cheap kind that had a little green plastic visor inserted in the front of the brim. Is a campaign hat the style worn by RCMP?

(The hat doesn't always look so bell-shaped, and is seldom adorned with a Christmas ornament.)
I remember this photo; cool hat!!:cool::thumbsup: Is there a sheepsfoot knife behind the ornament?

I wear ball caps in the summer, flat caps in the winter. If it gets very hot I might wear a straight-brimmed hat, and if it gets very cold, I wear something I can pull over my ears. Yesterday, when it was cold here, I wore my Elmer Fudd hat! :D

That IS reminiscent of the Loony Tunes star!! :D
The ability to cover my ears (and preferably neck, too) is sine qua non for my winter headgear.

Gary, hailing from Michigan as you do, I am surprised you do not sport a Stormy Kromer.

When I was a lad, I frequently had hats with earflaps that could be folded up or down that I wore when doing chores on the dairy farm during the winter. I spent most of the time in the barn and milk house, but had to go outside for some tasks. (We also pretended we were airplane pilots when we had those hats, running around with our arms out to our sides and yelling, "Flaps UP!" of "Flaps DOWN!")

But that Stormy Kromer, I don't know... I'm to a point in my life's journey where my shoe laces sometimes present a challenge; adding laces to my hat just seems like asking for trouble!;)

I have to go out now and scrape so the sun can hit the concrete. It's below 0F, so I'll wear my Thick as a Brick balaclava.
Hey, I spent some time after church sweeping the driveway so the sun could work its magic!:thumbsup: And thanks for mentioning your balaclava - I have one and always call it my "ninja hood" because I can neither pronounce nor spell "balaclava".:cool:

That pic of your stag lambsfoot with the art in the crown of your Stetson is one of my favorites, Vince!:cool::thumbsup:
But how do you guys who regularly wear wide-brim hats keep them from blowing off in windy weather??

Here's one of my knife caps, apparently destined to soon become a collector's item when Rough Rider starts spelling the noun "Ryder":thumbsdown::

Gotta get a proper fit. My hat fits snugly, but it is not uncomfortably tight, and doesn't leave a ring on my forehead from the hat band.
Maybe a cowboy hat would stand out where you live. Try a Homburg! If/when you're wearing a grey flannel suit.... ;)

Thanks for the advice, Vince.:) I'd probably never go for a cowboy hat, but I could see me wearing some kind of straw wide-brimmed gardening hat in the summer. First, though, I suppose I should check Good Will for grey flannel suits in my size! ;)

That's a nice cap GT.
Thanks, John. :) As you might guess, I have a set of about a dozen "good" caps that I wear in a daily rotation for work, church, shopping, restaurants, and so on. (I also have some beat-up sweated-out caps that I wear mostly for playing softball, doing yard work, home and auto maintenance, etc.)

I'm the opposite. I buy a new cap that i like and wear it every day for about a year. When it gets too beat up and nasty, I retire it to the closet and buy a new one. I get used to one hat and then nothing else feels quite right.

Interesting difference in "lifestyles". ;) I'm WAY too fashion-forward to use your approach, since I coordinate my caps with the rest of my wardrobe whenever possible! I have my blue caps to wear with jeans and navy Dockers, and I have my beige caps to wear with khaki. (Can't believe both my wife and daughter think I have no fashion sense. :D)

I have a rotation of caps as well. I threw away at least a dozen last year. Caps, coats, and jackets are my downfall. I did go through my jackets and coats last year and got rid of quite a few. I still have a few coats that need to be disposed of but can't bring myself to do it. Mini hoarder....

Propper fit is essential, one of the reasons I like to buy in person. Like boots, sizes vary some from brand to brand.

I feel insomnia getting a grip!

Oh no you wail, try some warm drinks even pills?

Ah, but what's the cause I reply? Therin lay the root of most ails.

Except that this is caused by the excitement of not one but TWO knife deliveries in the morrow:D:D

Knife dreams become realities;)

Nope; I think I see what you're seeing, but it's the jagged end of the ribbon tying the ornament to the idiot string.

I must say, one thing I always admired about Clint Eastwood was the way he didn't have to tie his hat on (not like Randolph Scott). I like Clint's flat brims, too. Though Erroll Flynn et al wore some pretty cool felt sombreros in San Antonio.
