"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Generally the Packers will hold "stock sales" whenever they need to raise a lot of money... the last time was in 2011 when they raised money to make extensive renovations / upgrades to the stadium. The stock isn't a traditional stock or share since if the team was ever sold to a private entity, shareholders do not receive a pay out, instead all of the proceeds of the sale go to pre-selected foundations, charities, clubs, etc. in the Green Bay community which would be orchestrated by the Green Bay Packers Foundation. The team will likely never sell since no single entity will profit from it. The cool part about being a shareholder is that you are allowed to attend any shareholder meetings and participate in voting for Board of Director members and other key positions in the organization. The shareholder meetings are held in the stadium too :) The NFL requires that teams are owned by a single individual or a small group of individuals but the Packers were given an exception since they have always been owned/supported by the public and is the main reason why Green Bay is the smallest city to have a professional franchise. People don't realize that on game day when the stadium fills up, there is roughly 82,000 there and the population of GB is a little over 100,000 o_O Another perk to living in the county is that you are eligible to get tickets to one game if you enter your name/address in a lottery... you have to pay for the tickets (face value) but you can generally get them since the county reserves 3,000 tickets to each game. Might be a pre-season game but I have been lucky to get regular season games most years I have entered the lottery.

So there is your fun Packer facts summary :)

Another cool thing is the certificate, which I framed (green and gold, of course) and hung next to my Bart Starr personalized photo.

the shape reminds me of the pork pies donn donn always posts in the Guardians thread - tasty!! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

But that Stormy Kromer, I don't know... I'm to a point in my life's journey where my shoe laces sometimes present a challenge; adding laces to my hat just seems like asking for trouble!;)

I love the Stormy Kromer hats and have been thinking of buying one as there are stockists in the UK.
But I'm sure your aware there is actually a style of hat called "the pork pie"... :D

Thanks for explaining that! That sounds great and officially makes me a Packers fan. :) I think the NFL generally is a lot like British soccer Premier League; money money money. Season tickets cost hundreds of pounds and you have to attend X number of games (both home and away) or else it gets confiscated .
The Packers way sounds a lot more friendly

Peyton Manning played college ball for the TN VOLS in Knoxville 94-97 and since Knoxville is just a little over 100 miles from here I went to a lot of games. In 97 his senior year and the year he led the VOLS to the SEC Championship. I had a chance to get one of his #16 jerseys signed by him. Tenn. retired that number after the 97 season was over.
Fast forward to 2010 some jackleg broke in to my house and one of the things they stole was my Peyton Manning signed jersey.:eek:

Sometimes it's hard to click on the "Like" button for your stories Randy... it was a wonderful story up until the end  Maybe Frank and Gary can get a "Bummer" button for us for times like this ;) I am a Peyton Manning fan, my buddy sent me this picture from Indianapolis of Peyton's statue there.

Peyton's one of the greats. He's a big fan of #19 of the Colts. It's a shame the NFL wouldn't let him wear black high tops once to honour the great Johnny U.

I have a rotation of caps as well. I threw away at least a dozen last year. Caps, coats, and jackets are my downfall. I did go through my jackets and coats last year and got rid of quite a few. I still have a few coats that need to be disposed of but can't bring myself to do it. Mini hoarder....
I should follow your lead and get rid of some of my outerwear. I have 4 winter coats in various closets (going back to an army surplus field jacket and liner from the early 1970s), but I only wear one of them, except for another I use only when getting or disposing of a Christmas tree.

Except that this is caused by the excitement of not one but TWO knife deliveries in the morrow:D:D

Knife dreams become realities;)
Were you able to sleep at all last night, Will? ;) The suspense of wondering what your exciting TWO new knives would be almost kept me awake last night. :D

Nope; I think I see what you're seeing, but it's the jagged end of the ribbon tying the ornament to the idiot string.

As soon as I read that, I realized we had this same discussion back when you first posted the pic, Jer!:( Apparently I can RECALL almost nothing any more, although I can still RECOGNIZE stuff if presented to me.

GT, I was admiring the picture you posted of you "ninja hood" the other day. I've struggled finding something that I like for keeping my face/neck warm when it's really cold out, because I find a lot of balaclava-type garments to be too constrictive (which is likely to keep me from putting them on when I really should). Yours looked to be a little more loose fitting (and I like that it fits over your regular ball cap ).
Barrett, my wife got that for me for Christmas many years ago. I think the packaging called it a "6-in-1 head covering", but I've only been able to figure out 4 ways to use it:
1) like a scarf bunched around my neck and below my chin
2) pulled up over my nose like an Old West bank robber
3) with hood up on top of my head and entire face exposed (the way I wear it most often)
4) with hood up, but with only eyes showing by tightening drawstrings - amount of face covered depends on how tight you draw the strings
I like it, but you should realize that I can't really put it on OVER my cap. I have to put the ninja hood on, and pull the hood down around my neck. Then I put on my cap, move the front of the ninja hood up over nose/mouth, pull hood itself up over the cap, and then move the front back down to chin level or lower. And it's fairly light-weight fleece, with almost no wind resistance. But I usually put my parka hood up over it as a "windbreaker", and then the ninja hood is warm. On an old parka, the parka hood was just a nylon shell, but it would stop the wind enough to make the ninja hood an effective way to keep my head warm.

The Superbowl teams are set & the NFL referees are heading to Atlanta! ;)

Feel bad for the Saints and their fans, and Wurrwulf Wurrwulf in particular. :( (But why were they throwing the ball in that situation anyway?)

I used to have a fedora just like that as a kid (pinched it from my dad), used to wear it out in the woods. Wish I still had it :) I do have a black fedora, but have only worn it to a music-themed fancy-dress party - I went as Mac The Knife - Rat Pack suit, black fedora, HUGE Bowie knife! :D
What's the mantra around here? Pics or it didn't happen. :D:thumbsup:

Speaking of hats, I did an inventory. Got 2 hats, a Greek fisherman's cap, about 20 baseball caps, and something from Wisconsin. ;)

Well, you know, I'm a shareholder. I believe the Green Bay Packers are the only publicly owned major league sports franchise. They've offered stock only 3 or 4 times, and only once or twice in my lifetime. Last time was about 8 years ago, and I bought a share. Stan Kroenke, Jerry Jones, and I are all NFL owners.
Vince, your headgear inventory and your corporate status in the NFL are both impressive!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for the links, David.:thumbsup::cool: The point of me getting a hat would be as a way of keeping sun off my head and neck, and I think the brim of a pok pie hat would be too narrow for that purpose.

I feel insomnia getting a grip!

Oh no you wail, try some warm drinks even pills?

Ah, but what's the cause I reply? Therin lay the root of most ails.

Except that this is caused by the excitement of not one but TWO knife deliveries in the morrow:D:D

Funny, it is, because I'm excited for you!
I'm in the same boat as you waiting 2+ weeks for a delivery. I don't know how you do it!:)

GT, it was a terrible decision by the refs, but also a mind-numbing play calling decision, as well. :(2018 changed my perspective on many things in life, and well, a game is just not worth my mental anguish or stress. It happened. Life goes on.
