"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Recently me and my coworkers got some crazy news at my department. They are drastically downsizing officer numbers and laying off up to 16 officers. There are some chances of sticking with my department but the outlook isn't looking to hot...

Today I got some good news though! I was just accepted into an online graduate program. 2 more years of school then I will be teaching...hopefully. I'm excited because I have a passion for coaching and teaching! It's a fresh start and time to redeem myself for past mess ups in college when I was young and thought I knew it all!

Congratulations Taylor, hooh it all works out for you

Do you have a guardless bandsaw? I have had a LOT (way too many) bandsaw blades break on me. It usually startles me a lot, because there is a big bang when the tensioning system lets go, but I have never had an injury.
It has a little sliding sleeve that lowers to the top of the workpiece. I've never broken a blade, so I was just fearing the worst. Looking at it, it would be pretty hard for any of the blade to get out of the housing. And the blade is still in one piece. I just have to remember how the tensioning works.

I have to get serious about a bridge pretty soon, then I can try the soundboard with just a sound hole before I go on and add a resonator cone (can lid).

16 out of how many?
Good luck with the teaching/coaching.

16 out of a total of 38 in my section of the department. Juvenile Justice reform in California and the United States as a whole has changed a lot in my 11 year career. It has dwindled down numbers of kids in the system. I'm just glad I started young. And can still switch up my career field.

That's an important point Taylor, your age. Gives you time and strength to try out something very different and that's welcome:cool: For your older colleagues, the situation might be rather grim.

Regards, Will

o_O -"Hey! Someone just opened another one over there!":D:thumbsup:
Good luck!
Edit: somehow my first sentence got emeded in the quote lol

I was up to my cabin in the Adirondacks last weekend, and spring is showing no signs of appearing yet. That's a cabin somewhere behind the 6 feet of snow. :p:p:p We probably won't see the snow melted away until maybe last week of April, or first week of May.

But the family and I are finding things to do with ourselves, while we wait for the beginning of trout season.

On the photo, I can see that the blade was burning the wood even on a pretty straight cut. That indicates a dull blade, that was pretty much shot anyway.
I have been using Tuff Tooth bandsaw blades for a lot of years now. Get some. You will not regret it.

Thanks. This blade is pretty old, and tarnished with disuse.
I "finished", in one sense, the nape cut with a coping saw.

I'm hoping to be able to call this a steampunk uke, but I may have to settle for troglodytic. Still early days, though.

Farewell my lovely Victorinox Executive. It appears that you and your pocket buddy, the brass Maratac Peanut lighter, decided to explore the world around you and leave the dark pocket. I carried you 5 days a week for just over 3 years, and you never let me down. I hope whoever picked you up sees your beauty and usefulness.

I guess I need to figure out what will replace it...

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope they turn up for you.

Thank you, JohnDF JohnDF . Unfortunately, after mentally retracing my steps yesterday, I'm fairly confident I know where it fell out. The project I'm on has anywhere from 600-800 people working per day, and it probably happened in one of the most trafficked areas. Chances of ever seeing it again are slim to none.

Sorry for your loss Shawn :( Is it worth printing a few posters, maybe offer a small reward?

On the west coast, we are pushing up flower shoots, thanks to what is left of the Japanese current!
