"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

screened porch screened porch - The other night you were not offended by the weather. The fact that it produced 28" of snow that buried you up to your knees did not anger you. I did not hear you cursing, nor did I hear you cry out for mercy...

Tomorrow another day. ;)

I guess your bandsaw didn't bite you huh. About a month ago my 3/4" carbide blade started shimmying front to back. I had to sway back and forth with the rhythm. OBVIOUSLY something wrong. Though I had not knowingly run through knots or twisted it, this wasn't right. Tension problem? Bad run off? Chipped carbide? I had completely detensioned the wheels and started slowly rotating the blade looking for an obvious culprit. Took a few minutes but then  there it was - my blade was cracked nearly all the way through. Holding on my a few silly mm. Whoo wee - real glad I didn't keep pushing on it like a mindless idiot. Could have hoit! Take care out there.

Thanks. I'll be careful. I haven't checked on it yet, and haven't given it much thought beyond being pleased it didn't whip out and cut my head off. Friday it should be warm enough to fool with metal in the garage. Meanwhile I've got things to do with the still square (by my standards) neck.

Do you have a guardless bandsaw? I have had a LOT (way too many) bandsaw blades break on me. It usually startles me a lot, because there is a big bang when the tensioning system lets go, but I have never had an injury.

Me? No - there is a guard. No matter - can still be quite a drama if a blade snaps mid- resaw

Recently me and my coworkers got some crazy news at my department. They are drastically downsizing officer numbers and laying off up to 16 officers. There are some chances of sticking with my department but the outlook isn't looking to hot...

Today I got some good news though! I was just accepted into an online graduate program. 2 more years of school then I will be teaching...hopefully. I'm excited because I have a passion for coaching and teaching! It's a fresh start and time to redeem myself for past mess ups in college when I was young and thought I knew it all!

Well, Congratulations, Taylor. It's Miller time! What do you want to teach?

I'm studying health science. So health teacher/pe teacher. But the main goal is to eventually be a head football coach as well. Which was my goal back when I was younger. It seems like a career in law enforcement for me might have ran it's course.

I'm excited for you Taylor. Public service from the other side, catch 'em before and help guide them down a good path. Teaching is a noble profession. Good luck to you.

Well, like John said, teaching is a noble profession. Best of luck!

I love teaching. It isn't always easy (what good vocation is?), but it has tremendous rewards.

Being a teacher and a coach! May your efforts be blessed, Taylor!

Well I coach now, and I work with juveniles on Probation. And teach substance abuse prevention classes now. So I think I'm kinda prepared...it's gonna be fun and stressful all in one.

Good Luck young man . Sometimes doors get closed and others get opened for reasons we just don't understand yet .
