"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Your Ma was a wise women and listened and acted on her spirit and I too credit it for my inflection point. To me spiritual is nothing more than a dimension outside the limitations of the physical. When first sick I followed the "conventional wisdom" and listened to my doctor, for a time. Then my spirit arose and said, this is not right.
I had read an old book by Louis Bromfield in which he said the soil (read topsoil ) had been depleted of many of the trace mineral necessary for metabolic functions (pathways) and thus many maladies were a result of poor farming practices. Then later coming across Joel Wallach's work drove it home, that coupled with my work in the research academia /industry, on many levels. Worked for a gifted endocrinology professor and managed his research facility.

A tooo long story short, I began to utilize my training and experience on my own predicament and the results were eye opening. The wisdom was already known (Joseph Krafts work ) but was suppressed and could have saved me ( and many others ) precious time.

The revolution is underway and in the light now (Ivor Cummins work The Fat Emperor and many other Paleo pioneers )

Time is of the essence ( the physical body is subject to time and space )

Thank you, my friend !!:) Listen and Act on your wisdom and spirit ;) Feel my prayers

Gevonovich Gevonovich Your posts on health have given me a lot to ponder on Gev, I'm thankful for your readiness to share knowledge. Know Yourself is a wise maxim, but we seldom pause to confront ourselves. That and the dead weight of custom and received opinions are a formidable barrier to understanding, yet the spirit cannot be leashed and may give profound insights when least expected. With diet and health, vested interests can and do obscure vital truths due to desire for money or lazy convention. When thinking about general health trends, most in the Western world devour far more processed food & carbohydrates than just 30 years ago so is it a surprise there is a connexion between ill health, insulin overload and enhanced weights? No. Back in the 70s I remember my Ma going out on a limb and rejecting the low fat mantra of the time. She viewed margarine as a poison, she cooked with butter, lard or olive oil, drank cream, full fat cheeses but she was never a big eater of bread or potatoes and disliked rice and pasta completely. She never had cardio vascular problems or any kind of cancer and was moderate to well built, not skinny nor fat. Can't say I've been so disciplined as I was formerly a massive bread consumer of all types, excessively fond of pasta too and potato. For a few months I've really cut them out, many days I eat none of them and BP is lower, feel unbloated, feel more alert, weight has dropped a bit but not as much as it could due to wine consumption...need to work on that a bit. My Ma also had a horror of any kind of medication except pain killer and I don't think that was foolish either, these days people consume meds far too readily at the behest of dubious health norms or the tyranny of health checks and insurance Blood pressure levels and cholesterol figures are good examples of where medication can be over prescribed, so too with psychiatric drugs in my view.

We all carry burdens, but when somebody like you Gev shows concern for others and shares their knowledge from altruism, it makes a very big difference indeed. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks, Will
Sounds like a great start Will... Keep it up

Hey Gev, glad to hear you are doing well. 7 months in and 77 pounds down here, since I followed your first breadcrumb. Thanks for the nudge.

Lots of new arrivals this spring, it looks like! Congrats to all of the happy families. We've got a litter of 7 kittens from a pregnant stray that we brought in, so our cat family has increased from 4 to 12 pretty much overnight. We'll foster them until they are ready for adoption and hopefully will be able to socialize the mother cat enough to where she can be someone's pet as well, so then we'll be back to 4.
Very cool John :)

And I thought we were friends
We are friends ;) and I've lost almost 20 lbs myself not to mention I've significantly lowered my triglycerides and glucose ever since I really started watching my sugar/ carbs and hitting my exercise bike for 8 miles each day  My doctor started to threaten me with cholesterol and blood sugar meds  You started a trend Gev and I for one thank you for the inspiration :)

That is beyond awesome, my friend :):thumbsup: No meds necessary...you got this with whole live food ...the best medicine ;) knowledge, the right tests, insulin, inflammation markers, no seed oils (so called vegetable oils) and movement. Vitamin/mineral supplementation if necessary. Magnesium deficiency. That's a good start !

Gevonovich Gevonovich Gev my friend, Kevin ain't the only one. My attention has been focused on the effect carbs have on our insulin output. You are a good egg brother. And a fellow philosopher. And thank you Kevin for... well ... for everything you do paisano. :D

I don't know Jer... A wellness PREVENTION visit might be problematic... :D
They spell it "wellness/prevention", but I think it's funnier without the "/". And medical science is all about keeping me amused.

And by the way, my resonator cone is in place.

A few years ago my wonderful neighbor, Jerry (really a great guy & fellow knife nut) gave this special knife to me in trade, with his health now failing, it means the world to me. For those so inclined, could you please include him in your prayers. Thanks.
