Is it still made Jack Black Jack Black ?
Im guessing if it is it contains nothing of the original recipe...just flavourings E1234-D and E 4321-B......much like all of it nowdays. Coca Cola being a prime example...further research required I feel.
Cheers.

My grandma in Nottingham would get crates of pop...thete was one called Dandelion and Burdock...that was the flavour...ive never seen it since my early childhood there circa 1970...it was a sort of liquorice flavour...

The only thing better than Dandelion & Burdock is Brandylion & Burdock (house shot in a Yorkshire bar I used to frequent) ;)

I’m sure Jack can speak more to it’s overall availability in the UK, but they definitely still make it. Here’s a picture I took on our first visit to Bath. (I took the pic because I’d never heard of such a thing, and it sounded… odd. Also, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that this probably isn’t the best one out there. :D)

Some time after we got back from that trip, Jack shared a picture of a bottle of Dandelion & Burdock (maybe in the beverages and blades thread?), and after a bit of discussion, he convinced me to give it a try. I found this one at a store here in the states that carries a variety of snacks and soft drinks from different countries. Although I haven’t added it into my regular beverage rotation, it was actually pretty good. :D

Dandelion root is good for gout and such, and people make dandelion wine (get all the green off before you mash the flowers). Burdock is probably good for something too, but I don't have an herbal at my fingertips.
I expect I'll have to go online for the beverage in question.

Yes, as Barrett says, it's still made, and still very popular (though the kidz probably don't drink it), and widely available here :) Fentiman's is definitely one of the better ones

Ingredients are:

  • Carbonated Water,
  • Fermented Ginger Root Extract (Water, Glucose Syrup, Ginger Root, Pear Juice Concentrate, Yeast),
  • Sugar,
  • Glucose Syrup,
  • Pear Juice Concentrate,
  • Caramel (E150a),
  • Herbal Infusions (Dandelion Root, Burdock Root),
  • Natural Flavourings.

I was just googling. Somebody with a recipe for home-made says that Fentiman's is a notable exception to the rule that the store-boughten stuff tends not to include much of the title ingredients. The Llamaserie has it, I see.

Speaking of Python, I hope Terry Jones's stuff will become available sometime. I want to watch his Barbarians series. And he had one on the crusades- all I caught of that was his demonstration of how hard a slog it is to make an amphibious landing wearing armor.

Yes, there are a few others which use natural ingredients, but this is probably the most widely sold.

Ben Shaw Dandelion & Burdock 330ml. INGREDIENTS: Carbonated Water, Sugar, Colour (Sulphite Ammonia Caramel), Acid (Citric Acid), Flavourings, Preservative (Sodium Benzoate), Sweeteners (Sodium Saccharin, Sucralose).

Pop is something I drink very little of, probably no more than half a dozen times a year

I'm afraid I missed all the Terry Jones stuff Jer, but will look out for it

Fresh bruised burdock leaves can be used externally on syphilis!
Yeah, I don't drink much pop either- coke on long drives is about all.

I’ve been trying to cut back myself. I don’t think I’ve had a coke in a couple months now. I will say, though, that I’ll take the regular stuff in moderation over the artificially-sweetened “diet” or “zero” stuff any day.

I did appreciate that in England they still make Coke and the like with real sugar. All ours here are made with high fructose corn syrup now. (You can buy Coke from Mexico, which comes I’m glass bottles and is still made with real sugar.)

I was disappointed, however, when I bought a Dr. Pepper in England. Apparently “regular” Dr. Pepper there is now made with part sugar, part artificial sweetener (aspartame). o_O

Yeah, I agree with you there Barrett, I can't stand the taste of those artificial sweeteners o_O I didn't know that about the Coke here, I probably have it once or twice a year, and quite enjoy it :) That's nasty about the Dr Pepper, aspartame is rank

This is kinda random fellas...but I was wondering if any of you have been in contact with Perry @singin50?
I haven't seen him around here in quite a while. He was my tortoise shell acrylic buddy but I didn't have his personal email.
Anyway, just thought someone might know how he is doing.
Cheers.
