"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

As a youngling, I was told "Take the road less travelled!"

I did. The road I took is so "less traveled" it isn't even on the map. Trees with trunks 3 foot and more across have sprouted up in the middle of the road. Bridges over dry riverbeds have washed away ...

Now, aside from "lost", I have no idea where the heck I am.

I think I need a compass and topographical map.

My participation on The Porch may be substantially reduced over the next week at least. I'm teaching one class this semester at the institution where I spent most of my career, and today was the last day of "regular" face-to-face, in-person classes for at least a month. All instruction starting Monday is supposed to be online. I've never taught an online class before, so I've got a lot to learn and I think it's going to take me some time to figure out what's going to work for me and how I'm going to do it.

(I'll probably also be in mourning, and I'll bet I'm not alone, over how much of my retirement savings has vanished in the past couple of weeks!)

Wash your hands frequently, everyone, and don't go out in public if you're sick!!

GT - I've been taking online classes for the last few years chipping away at my degree. I've interacted with many different instructors who all had unique styles of conducting their class. If there is any level of insight or feedback I can provide, please let me know

Good luck, Gary. I'm sure you'll figure something out.

Was there a software change in BladeForums? The writing looks smaller. I read the forum on my i-Phone, and it looks different today.

More stupidity:
Overheard at a local sporting goods store:
"I buy all my meat, poltery, and fish at the grocery store. That way no animals are hurt or killed!"

Popped out today...with loads more to come.

Must have been a joke! Or a really stupid person.
The latter, I'm afraid.
I suspect she destroyed her mind with booze and/or "recreational" drugs long before reaching drinking age, based on the amount of ink she was sporting, her clothing, and attitude.
(her shirt and a few visible tattoos were pro-drugs, and not just pot, and her shirt and pants also had several beer patches.)

afishhunter afishhunter when you say beer patches...is that sew on type patches of beer labels? or stains where beer is slopped on to the garment?
Yes.
Beer and Jack Daniels, Rye Whisky, Tequila, Capt. Morgan and Bacardi 151 Rum label patches sewn on, pot and other "recreational" drug patches sewn on, and stains from beer and liquor, among other (ew) things on the front and seat of her shorts.
At least her white socks and tenny sneakers didn't have brown :poop: streaks ... only p stains.
:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
I've seen cleaner real homeless people that were not staying at a shelter, daRn few as dirty, and none dirtier than "she" was.
Everything about "her" disgusting/gross it was.

Oh dear..When Tattoos Go Bad...saw in a mag one that had a nice vine drawn across a female pubic region...and the words Sweet Pee.....just beautiful .

I'll wear a paper bag over my head. With eyeholes, of course.

Good luck.
Thanks, Jer. (I think maybe I saw you and your bag at Meijer's recently.)

Thanks, Darren and Vince. I think I'm going to keep it pretty simple, especially for at least the first week. I've figured out how to use Microsoft Teams as a video-conferencing platform; I'll also be able to turn my laptop to focus on a screen where I'm projecting the output of a document camera where I can do geometry demos like how to perform transformations or how to find rotational symmetries of Platonic solids. I plan to "meet" at our regular class times each day (rather than simply posting stuff for students to access at their convenience), hoping I can replicate at least some of the interaction that's typical of in-person classes.

The Michigan governor has now closed all the elementary and secondary schools for at least several weeks. And of more interest to many folks at BF, the outfit that runs a traveling Gun & Knife Show at maybe a dozen different sites around the state, a different site each weekend, has announced that their shows are canceled for the next 4 weekends. And Founder's Brewing has closed their taproom!
