"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

My new grips came three days early!

Nice Jer, I used to have a set of Pachmayr grips on a Ruger Security-Six years ago, and found they made a lot of difference  Now I just have a slingshot :(

Better spent on knives I think. ;)

It's accurate isn't it?

I have a feeling that many wives and mothers are going to get a crash course in hair cutting before this is all over.

Yes, but depends WHICH knife;) I'm still a vain enough old idiot to like looking good, and a good haircut undeniably has an effect :D

I had a 6" blued Security Six that I traded for the same thing in stainless.
I had Ruger's oversize walnut grips on mine.
Probably twice the sight radius of this snubbie. I wouldn't care to face your slingshot with my snubbie, the way I'm shooting it.

Bet you can't wait to try 'em. They should make a big improvement in shoot-ability!:thumbsup:
Yup, can't wait. Maybe tomorrow.
They aren't Pachmayrs, but they're actually made for this gun, and they fill up the space behind the top of the backstrap where it was whacking my ulnar nerve.

Happy Birthday, Paul!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas outside my window today!
My wife was asking why I wasn't putting the snow blower away last Friday, when it was 73F. It's nice to be right once in awhile!

Mine was the 6" in stainless Jer. I bought it second-hand from another member of the same gun-club, who was buying a new S&W (forget which model). It came with wooden grips, which I THINK were the original grips (I'm going back to the early-mid 80's now). I seem to remember finding them a bit small, but I have very large hands. Either way, the Pachmayrs made a big difference, and they were bigger, but not sculpted or anything. Pachmayrs were the only game in town then I think, but it's a long time ago. Those look like they'll be a lot more comfortable to shoot, particularly on a snubbie. I hope so my friend :)

Hang in there Gary !!!! You know we are not done with snow yet . I can remember in 1967 we got a 6 or 8 inch snow in May .. We only got about 1 to 1& 1/2 inches last night here . Probably not as much as you . Very nice picture of your snow my friend .

Well Pennsylvania just announced school closings will extend an additional 2 weeks, to be further reviewed at that time. Don't be surprised if PA businesses aren't forced to follow suit. :(

Happy Birthday Paul

Hang in there, Rachel!:thumbsup: I share your "very bad feeling" about what the future holds after this health crisis is over, and I suspect the economic repercussions are going to be worse than those related to health. But each of us can only do our best, which individually isn't much; collectively, we can hope that maybe it makes a significant difference. When I watch old movies (from pre-1960, let's say), it's amazing that "average" people are portrayed as happily living in conditions that many of us today would consider to be quite squalid. If we have to, I'll bet we can adapt to dialing down the standard of living.
And I heartily endorse taking long walks! I went for a 92-minute almost 6-mile walk Sunday afternoon, and it improved my attitude significantly. In the name of "social distancing" I've stopped riding the city bus, so I've been walking about 10K-15K steps (6-8 miles) per day, and it's helping me physically, mentally, and emotionally, I think. :):cool:

Thanks for the description of your teaching situation, John!:cool::thumbsup: I'm still trying to maintain our regular 50-min class sessions 4 days a week via video conferencing, so that helps maintain some interaction with students, but I don't know if I can keep that up for the 7 weeks remaining in the semester after we "get back from" this week's spring break. And I'm woefully unprepared, technologically and pedagogically, for online teaching. I wish I knew a lot more about how to create video lessons (minimal equipment requirements, optimal approaches, etc.) to facilitate an asynchronous component to my class.

:D:D:thumbsup:

Good to see you checking in, Randy!:thumbsup::)

Thanks for the link, Ray!:thumbsup::thumbsup: The guy makes a compelling (if somewhat long-winded ) case, IMHO. It's hard to argue with the math, although there are SO many unknown factors that the models have to just make guesses about. I think I'm with you and @Just Tom. on these issues.

For sure, I hope you have an enjoyable birthday, Paul!! :):thumbsup:
How does it feel to hit the Big Four-Oh?? :p:D:rolleyes:

Thanks, Harry. I recall some bad spring snow storms here.

The only good thing about them is you know the snow won't be on the ground for long.

Brings back memories of the weather when I lived near your front yard, back in the 1960s!! I remember all four seasons in one day in March around then!
I'll take the weather, without the coronavirus please!!

We do get some crazy weather this time of the year. I'd happily take a year of winter if I could wish away the virus, Charlie.

I'll let you know soon.
Or not. We are now under the stay-at-home order that was unlikely to be necessary a couple of days ago. I guess we had a bad night.
We're allowed out to walk, run, hike, or bike, but shooting isn't on the list. I'll err on the side of caution rather than risk being made an example of what happens to armed scofflaws.
