"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Fabelhaftheit!
The Jagdnicker they told me yesterday was gone, is still there and $10 cheaper! Well, obviously it isn't there anymore.
I've wanted one of these for decades, but the new ones are either Chinese or more expensive than Italian shotguns. This one is mid-century like me.
What a beautiful day!

I have often found that a new knife does indeed brighten the day.
Congrats!

I live on the edge of a wild area. We get a fair number of rabbits that sneak in from the canyon under the fence despite my best efforts to keep them out with fencing improvements. Both our dog and our cat catch them (and eat them if my wife and I don't see them in time). The fencing is good enough to keep the skunks out though, so not a total loss. That miniature kangaroo might intimidate the cat, but not the dog.

:D:D Dogs are odd animals, some large and potentially aggressive dogs are very patient and even docile when around prey animals or annoying teasing kids ;) My parents had an enormous old Tomcat who never hunted birds/rodents-too dominant, but he loathed other cats or dogs. One day a German Shep wandered into the front garden, idiot owner walking it off lead in public:thumbsdown: My heart was in my mouth when the Tomcat rocketed across the lawn straight at this big dog:eek: He turned tail and ran back out into the street:D But as soon as the cat got in the street the dog turned and snarled terrifyingly, cat retreated back to his domain. Both had made their point:thumbsup: Wish humans were that sensible about territory... Other dogs just chase everything though, cyclists included which is really annoying. We don't have rabbits in this country except in the south, people let pets loose and they evolved into wild colonies but the climate sees them off, rabbits are extraordinary diggers and go down under most fences with ease. We have hares here, they can't dig but they can run and jump and box :D

I think our rabbits also box, and I have the idea that when they get serious they fight like cats, going for a headlock and kicking at the guts with their hind claws.

I have often found that a new knife does indeed brighten the day.
Congrats!

Happy days to finally have a decades long grail in your hands. Can only imagine how stoked you must be

Thanks, guys. I'm very excited. I don't even remember where I first saw a picture of a jagdnicker and thought, "That's perfect".
It's interesting to me that they don't seem to have the following of puukkot or punales, but maybe it's that they have a gentlemanly vibe, rather than an everyman or a frontier vibe.
I tried to copy and paste the vendor's image, but no go.
"Don't even remember." This from the guy who just forgot where he got a knife that @Jack Black sent him in a bright blue soap dish all of a year and a half ago.
"'Make a list'. He was a methodical man, my Uncle Podger. Then he would lose the list."
But this is since childhood. Maybe a fancy catalogue from the glory days of mail order.

Welcome around, Randy!! Glad to hear you are repairing guitars - a worthy profession!!
My wife makes an absolutely delicious Caponata, with Eggplant and Zucchini and also,
Parmigiana Di Melanzane to die for!!:p
And I am the Italian in the crowd!!:D

So, when we were having this discussion about eggplant and zucchini a week or so ago, I realized that it had been awhile since my wife made Caponata. I mentioned this to her and our next trip to the market we made sure we had the ingredients necessary. Well yesterday she made up a pan full and we had it for dinner with some meatballs and sausage.
She makes a mean Caponata!

Oh Joy!
I get to go to the doc-tore tomorrow afternoon. :)

I hope a couple hours away will help assuage the cabin fever somewhat. :)

I have to wear a mask though. Not sure how much good a disposable sanding mask will do ... especially when combined with a full beard.

But, as dorky/stupid/idiotic/etc. it makes me look, and no matter how useless and pointless it is, I'll wear the daRn thing.

Paper bag with a coupla eye holes? I know wimmen who could benefit from that (They would say "grrr... how about you, boy?"). Meg made some very nice masks at the sewing machine, and made some great big bandanas for me with chili peppers motif.

Ive read ( yeah havent we all and are now world experts on pandemics and covid19) that those paper dust masks do sfa against catching it but are of greater use preventing you from transmitting if you are infected.
With beards you would need a positive pressure mask...so masks are essentially useless.
Dunno what all the hoohaa was about....kitchen paper and electrical tape...tailor your own if you require .

Boxing Hares?? Ahhhahhahaha!

Do you have to mispronounce it the same way he does?
