"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Just watched Moonrise Kingdom, appreciated this closeup shot of Ed Norton opening his SAK. The shield is the insignia for the "Khaki Scouts" in the movie. Don't see details like this too often in movies.

Ed, the TSA is the most likely entity to steal anything from your luggage, so the TSA locks are just a waste of time and money.

I had car crash this morning. A deer hit the car and was still living. I called the local hunter and the police. My car has got some damaged, but I wasn´t hurt. So far, so good...

After work, I went to my garage where I use to let repair all of my motor-driven things (car, chainsaw etc). The guy there told me, that´s a damage of roundabout 3,500 € (roundabout 4,530 US$). Fur luck, I´m insured about about accidents like this. Nevertheless an unsatifying day for me...

But I´m a little happy about not getting hurt or another person. Nothing in comparison to the accident Silenthunterstudios had some time ago.

Have a nice days, ladies and gentlemen!

What sort of damage for the deer? If it was able to run away, that is what usually happens to the people I know. How can they cause so much damage, and still be alive? If it has to be killed, do you get to keep the meat?

Hope you get your car back soon, and glad you're okay.

Thanks Daniel!

Well, the deer was alive but one leg was broken. When the hunter arrived the deer ran away (with its broken leg) into a field. The hunter told me, he´s gonna look after it and kill (better salvate) it.
I don´t get the meat. Imo it wouldn´t be very good because of all the stress this poor animal had in the last few hours of its life. I wouldn´t want to take and eat it.

How they can cause so much damage and still be alive? I have no idea, being honest. But they must be pretty tough animals.

Poor animal...

Hi Andi,

I am really sorry to hear about your luck, but on a bright side, its just a car. I used to hit a lot of deer. I worked nights to pay for going to college. Driving home in the middle of the night through the sticks is a disaster sometimes. Most times a little body work did the job. Not the last time though. Years ago, following my brother away from work a deer jumped off and embankment and landed on my headlights, smashed over my hood into the windshield and back over the roof and rear wing. Here is the pic.

The fiberglass hood blew right off and hung on by a hinge, my airbags both went off on me and the headlights both destroyed. Luckily I could still see from my brothers headlights in front of me. Barely made it home and the car died and coasted down the driveway. It was way totalled. Oh well. We went back to get a photo of the deer for insurance and it was just barely still alive. I put my knife through its skull and it quickly stopped suffering.

Kevin... that´s a horrible story. I´m glad everything is fine. My luck, propably was I was just drivin with 80 km/h (50 mph) on that road in the bavarian outback, at half past five o'clock in the morning, that´s never a bad idea.

Per german laws, it´s not allowed to kill a deer at yourself. The hunter must (!) do this, no policeman is allowed to shoot it (just in case of emergency, when the deer is up to ran over the road in danger of hitting another car or even a truck and make much more damage).

Looking at it right now, about 16 hours later, it´s interessting how much damage a static target can cause on vehicle when crushing it.

I´m glad somehow that no wild boar was the animal.

Yeah I'm glad your okay Andi.

I don't know about the laws here but I wanted to get the huge deer off the road so other cars didn't hit it and I also wanted to put it out of its misery.

Kevin

Sorry to hear these stories Kevin and Andi. But I'm glad both you guys are ok! I worry about this all the time.

Hello gentlemen,

I was shopping for a new knife, and this stockman caught my eye. It was awesome, so i asked the man to hold it, and then i told him i wanted one. So he put the knife back on display and handed me a little box with the knife in it. Long story short, when i opened it at home it was used... the blades were sharpened as if an ape was handed a file, there were scratch marks and lint everywhere. I decided to return this knife the next day, so i walk up to the cashier and i could tell she was gorgeous from afar. As i handed her the knife, my eyes caught hers and i mumbled something like "i knife would like to return the, err..emm.. i mean i would like to return this knife." She said sure go pick out another one and ill take care of you. So i go to the case and pick out a trapper promptly. I waited 10 mins and no one showed up, so she happened to walk by and said "oh my gosh why arent they helping you??" and she called someone over again. So same story, another 15 mins and she walks by again says "WHY is no one helping you, im so sorry i feel so bad." Finally she found someones keys for the display case, and now the key doesnt fit. She sincerely apologized again and i told her not to worry about it. SO finally checkout time, and shes remarks "youre not going to believe this!" and i think to myself, oh great, now what? and she says the knife is marked as 9 dollars!!!!! whattt???? a 50 dollar beautiful carbon trapper!! Anyway she started sayin she was sorry again for all the trouble, and i said look, none of this was your fault, but it seems like this was meant to be, so how about i come pick you up after work tomorrow?

So i dont know whats better, this steal of a knife or getting this beautiful breathtaking babe??

Andi, I'm you are OK. Sorry about the car, though.

Andi and Kevin, I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck with deer. It's good to hear that nobody (besides the deer) was hurt. :)

I find it interesting that you have a state sponsored Hunter. What are his duties, other than harvesting wounded game?

The troopers in the AK have something similar, struck moose and caribou are dressed and sent to needy families who can apply for meat at their local office...waste not, want not.
