"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Here's a video visit to the Otter Messer factory in Solingen Germany showing the making of their knives including the iconic Black Cat K 55 lockback. These have been in production for 150 or so years with little change, a simple knife design that is extremely well-made and finished. I've been very impressed by the Copper version I recently got hold of. Much 'hands on' work

I had a can opener blade left over from one of my amateur re-build projects, and a little spare time on my hands this week (being off work and having completed most of my home improvement tasks), and so, ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the CanSlayer 1000:
I could spend some more time sanding it and filing the pins down, but I won’t.

Looks sturdy. I like it!

...and this is a fun one. Walked up to the outbuilding this week early morning to put stuff away.
Here's looking off the porch past the stern of the dinghy ~

...and then with a bit of zoom - completely undisturbed by me ~

Very cool! Happy New Year to you!

Reminds me of this print I have hanging in my office. Sorry about the reflections. It's dark here already.

The one in my photo was a good size adult. I watched her for quite a few minutes at which point she decided to get up and get some distance - just barely. She walked 10 yards and then just turned back to watch me watch her. I finally had to get on with my day  so I left her to her idles. :)

It was no accident that brought him to this moment - it was the very purpose of his existence. From his single steel-shredding talon, hardened in the fires of the land of the two-tailed lion, to his sleek outer shell ground and polished from aluminum wrested from the earth beneath what was once the dominion of the Raj, to his stainless inner core itself cut from a blade of the Far East, every part of him was chosen by his maker to maximize his deadly efficiency. Reclining on his first kill, his thirst for tin not slaked but just whetted, he was, as he was named, the CanSlayer.
