Did I tell you guys I got to use my scythes at the farm Wednesday?
I brought my best American curved snath and a brush blade, but for the purposes of whacking cauliflower stalks, I found the brush blade on the straight handle worked better for me.
I am a bit of a film nut, and one of the coolest movies I saw by accident (that’s another story) a few years ago was a historical drama about a farmer and his new “arranged marriage” bride in the Midwest. It was an independent film and from what I read most of the “extras” and some with speaking roles were made up of the small town folk who lived there where it was filmed in Minnesota. It’s based on a short story called “a gravestone made of wheat” and the depiction of farming and the early American culture is fantastic. Well worth the time and it’s free on YouTube. Check it out if your into using early farm tools. You might like it. It was called Sweet Land. Here is a link:

Thanks. I'll check it out.

I spend a few minutes looking over my knife herd in the morning.
I think about what day it is... Micarta Monday, Trapper Tuesday, Wooden Wednesday, etc.
I lay my choices for the day on the kitchen table next to my first cup of coffee, confident in my selections.
Then I start reading the forum, and I'll see a picture of something different, and then I have to carry that knife... I make changes.
I have issues... 🤪

I can relate. I can’t stop buying vintage case if is see a decent price on an 18 I jump. It’s worse than booze used to be when I used to drink. And if it ain’t got a patina and I have a lot of limes on the tree it’s just par for the course…then I seem to gift them to friends and family…today’s issue. Will be nice quickly. And I really hate that overpolished attempt at restoring people try to do on these. I need a therapist - oh wait I’m here.F628ACBB-2615-4250-A971-9C553D765436.jpeg

So I had a really neat thing happen the other day. My wife is a dog trainer, 25 years, and makes a good living at it. She has always wanted a French bulldog but never pulled the trigger as they are pricey, like really pricey, and she likes to rescue and whatnot. Anyhow she does a bit of pro bono work for a couple rescue organizations and she got a call that someone ordered a French bulldog from a breeder but had changed their minds due to some unforeseen circumstances. Anyhow they paid a princely sum and chartered a private plane for it to ride in the cabin (who does that?) etc and refused delivery so they sent it to this rescue my wife helps with and they knew she liked them and so for 800 bucks to cover their deliver expenses etc she is ours. Maybe six months old and pretty clear in the head. She doesn’t do the big three no no behaviors I just can’t tolerate. She ain’t a licker, she doesn’t submissive urinate (piddle), and she don’t eat turds with a vengeance. Will know what I got in a few weeks I suppose… Playful and healthy. Had her two days now and she is quiet in the crate at night to boot.
I feel like I’m savin money. ;)

What's her name?

Thats not a dog....
This is my bitch I use to hunt with. She is a nice dog. My male just passed away. I had him titled and in his breed class he was in the top tier scoring nationwide. Was invited to the invitational national test (couldn’t go :( life happens…) and was awarded a breeding award as his progeny scored incredibly high in natural ability testing. I apologize for my bragging but it was a neat time for us both :). Was featured in a magazine article in the North American versatile hunting dog organization. He sired over 70 dogs and his lines still going. Here is a pic of my girl pointing birds in the yard a couple days ago and a pic of my male from the article. She’s a good field dog but I didn’t put the time into her I did with my male, and his drive was off the charts. Very biddable tho. She has way better manners in the house though. It’s all a temperament balance I suppose with high drive dogs. I have trained bird dogs and been around them all my life, and my wife just loves these farting little creatures. They have a ton of character though. Antics galore. Tough underfoot in the kitchen tho.9961BD54-D334-4AD2-8C4A-73213A8F545D.jpeg0BDA4576-69DD-4511-9FAB-A2321FB012E8.jpeg
