"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Exactly what I was thinking J Just Tom. ...but at least a stout walking stick might come in handy in the mosh pit...
Johnnythefox Johnnythefox I have been an avid fan of The Saints since high school...another full on Aussie band was Radio Birdman ...loved by punks and surfies alike....A couple of years back I was bus driving in Wollongong and who should hop on ..none other than Rob Younger (the singer)...still clad in black...looking weathered but kissed bye bye by a couple of nubile young women...probably his daughters...Aussie punk Royalty!! On MY bus!!

I just discovered the saviours of punk/rock and roll/music/the world etc. and they are Australian.

So good I went straight on Amazon to buy the latest album.

They have made me feel hope,if the kids can still do this then we have hope for the future.

Amyl and the sniffers aint bad either but this is just up there.

I give you The Chats ( I couldn't find the vinyl section and reckoned meako would like this).

The lyrics,wow.

some comments I love the humour.

It's so refreshing to know that young people are still making music like this.

the musicianship is adequate and they're singing about something a care about passionately with intensity. 10 out of 10 stars

The Chats are Australia's premier cultural ambassadors. Not only have I learned about the "smoko" smoke break but also how government assistance payments work down under.

They should make this the real Australian National Anthem

The Wagonga Princess at anchor.
Beautiful old boat.

I worked on a beautiful old wooden salmon troller for a maybe a couple of months one summer in the mid 1980s in Alaska. It looked sort of like this one, but with a slightly larger cabin.

I enjoyed the boats and the scenery, and the work wasn’t too bad. The skipper was a real jerk though, and it was just me and him on the boat. He didn’t do any work at all except pilot the boat while I caught and cleaned all the fish, and he didn’t let me off the boat when we came into port to unload. He did let me pilot from port to the fishing grounds while he slept, though, which was cool. I have no idea why he trusted me to find the way through all those islands.

I finally quit though when he started shooting OVER THE TOP OF MY HEAD, from probably 15 feet behind me on a rolling boat, at a sea lion that was stealing fish off our lines. I tried to get behind him and he told me to stay in the cockpit (a little well at the stern where you did the fishing and cleaning). I got in his face with a gaff hook and things got a little tense for a minute until he backed down.

Our agreement was that I wouldn’t get paid unless I completed the whole season, but I used some excuse why I had to leave and he did pay me something at least.

Sea lions were a protected species, too…

Im on smoko leave me alone is our national motto....Im hoping for a sequel.." F##k right off! Im doing the paperwork"*

* hiding in a shed reading the newspaper.

Bonus feature of yesterdays maritime photographic venture..
I had to watch my back there were 2 more right behind...but they were just floating ..doing the paperwork..but close enough to haul out ...they are actually accustomed to all the free fish frames they get at the gutting tables near the boat ramp...but still wild animals...a privilege to see them cavorting like this.

Lake Tahoe is such a magical place. I was there two summers ago during wild fires and still had a great time and caught some yummy trout. That is such an epic cruiser. We went kayaking and apparently one of the properties we were paddling by was owned by non other than Zuckerberg, and he apparently doesn’t like it when kayakers and such get too close to his end, so we of course got close 😄
It really is an amazing place that I probably take for granted living just a couple hours away.

It’s funny, I was in Tahiti this summer and we went on a hike with a woman on her family’s property. We hiked to a waterfall with a pool we swam in, the property was full of tropical fruits and had a view of the ocean in the distance. It was one of the highlights of the trip, and while we were hiking, the woman was asking us if we’ve ever been to Lake Tahoe. She said that’s the one place in the world she really wants to go.

That is awesome, and sounds like an incredibly fun time! She definitely knows what she’s talking about. If you’re only a couple hours away, I would say it’s definitely worth adventuring in Lake Tahoe more!

Great pictures. We go up there quite a bit. More often in the winter. We’re actually going up in a few weeks to celebrate my Dad’s 80th.

Well done sir. Thank you, I wish I was a little closer to go more often

Yikes! 😳 I have just the same issue Tom. A tailor in my local market runs his sewing machine across them, and charges me a small fee, or nothing at all. It's on my 'To Do' list for this week. 👍
I stitched it up myself .

There were actually 2 holes - I’m pretty sure they started when I put my Antonini electricians knife in my pocket with the punch/awl/spike thingy open while I was up on a step ladder putting a sort of drop ceiling under my porch awning. Serves me right, I guess.

The bolster you see peeking out is the same knife I nearly lost a couple of times out holes in my pockets some 20 years ago, prompting me to give up carrying knives entirely for several years (unless camping or fishing or whatever).

I must be buying better quality jeans these days, because I don’t usually have this problem anymore.

I think it's keys and loose change with me that causes the holes. Glad you fixed em up Tom 👍

It's probably the keys :) Funny, I've always worn Levi's or LL Bean Jeans and never had a hole in me pocket. Maybe I am just lucky?
Or you don't wear them long enough?
I've sewn up a few pocket-holes in my time, but not lately. I've been carrying my keys in a coin-purse or zippered case, or lately on one of those key-safe gizmos, since I realized my dad was smarter than I thought again.

I reckon you're right mate :) I wore Levi's for most of my life, but I did have to stitch up the odd pocket hole. I once had a job where I had 2 carry 2 bunches of keys, and it not only cost me the pockets of my Lewis Leathers jacket, but the lining too
