"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I posted this elsewhere but it has me tickled enough to share it again.

My daughter has Spirit Week at her school and today is "Throwback Thursday". I helped her throwback to the 1860s - she was thrilled!

What a great idea! Great pic too Dylan :)

Thanks Gary. Yes it was rising in the east Monday evening. Yep the Harvest Moon is September's full moon, Hunter's Moon is October's. I couldn't think of a song for the Hunter's Moon! :D
I found this interesting tidbit, from the Farmer's Almanac:

*According to one tradition, which the Old Farmer’s Almanac honors, the Harvest Moon is always the full Moon that occurs closest to the September equinox. Most years, it falls in September; every three years, it falls in October. (Astronomical seasons do not match up with the lunar month.) If the Harvest Moon occurs in October, the September full Moon is usually called the Corn Moon instead. Similarly, the Hunter’s Moon always follows the Harvest Moon. (Note that these last two conditions are not according to Native American tradition.)
Thanks for the additional moon-naming tidbit, Gary.:cool::thumbsup:
Seems like the more I learn, the more complicated life gets; maybe that's where "ignorance is bliss" comes from! 🤓

That is awesome, Dylan! Great idea, great picture!

Thank you, Gary! As I expected, she absolutely rocked it yesterday, her history teacher even wants her to return in the uniform when he starts going over the Civil War in class.

Awesome costume and great job putting it all together, but I prefer grey.;)

Thank you! You know, it took longer than I expected for someone to chime in about the grey 😁. I am not really active anymore but when I was, we were beginning to have to acquire some Confederate kit because the battles were becoming ridiculously lopsided - the other side needed more bodies clad in grey.

I've never really been a morning person, but I got to say, there is something special about watching the sun rise. It is nice to see the first birds come to the feeders and hear the roosters calling in the new day.
I am also not a morning person, but I do enjoy sitting quietly as the sky lightens hoping to see domething with antlers go by.

This morning:

There is a core sampler tool that arborists can use to remove a sample to analyze the rings to study the age, weather/ life cycle of a tree. They drive a plug into the hole afterwards so it will heal quicker and cause no long term harm to the tree.
