"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

There is a core sampler tool that arborists can use to remove a sample to analyze the rings to study the age, weather/ life cycle of a tree. They drive a plug into the hole afterwards so it will heal quicker and cause no long term harm to the tree.
You fancy that Jon?! o_O 😂 :thumbsup:

Looking out over our back yard. It's looking like fall out there. We'll be getting our first snow soon.

That's a nice view Gary, winter seems to be coming round early for some of you folks :thumbsup:

It's certainly worth staying for Gary :) :thumbsup:

Yeah, I thought we had it bad here, but it's rare to get snow in October :eek: It's actually been pretty nice this week :)
 news fact of dubious distinction. Cities with a population of at least 50,000.

Syracuse takes home the crown as the snowiest city in America, averaging 127.8 inches each winter. That's just shy of 11 feet of snow, most of which is courtesy of the large body of water to its northwest: Lake Ontario.Nov 23, 2021

Wow! :eek::cool::thumbsup:

Exactly! I used to have a snowplow service when I was working and had to be out the door at 7am. When I retired, at 61 yrs, 11 years ago I decided to snowblow and shovel. 11 years of that is enough. I hired a snowplow service for this winter. Two or three days a week my son and DIL drop off their kids at 7:30am or so. Sometimes the snow has been so deep they can't get in the driveway. I'll be danged if I'm going to get up at 5am to clean the driveway!
A pic from a few years ago. Not a big snow that morning.

Crikey Gary, that really sounds like a lot of work :eek: Is the snowplow service expensive?

It's pretty to look at, but I do not miss having to shovel and snow blow. We moved to NC 15 years ago, and maybe got two storms a year that might leave a couple inches which will melt away in a couple days. I have fewer back problems since the move as another thing to be thankful for.

3 or 4 gec knives a season. That's if you get them on a drop. 🤣
:eek: :D :thumbsup:

I remember clearing the snow one year. My back was killing me the next day, and all the snow had melted! :rolleyes: :D :thumbsup:

That's a LOT of snow, Gary! :eek: o_O
Back in February or March of 1984, I interviewed for a job at SUNY-Oswego, right on Lake Ontario. I flew into Syracuse, and someone from the college picked me up to drive me to Oswego. The interview went OK, and I stayed in a dorm "guest room" on campus that night, with a flight out of Syracuse scheduled in the morning. Could not believe how much snow fell overnight that night!! The locals seemed unperturbed, and got me to the airport on time.
