"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I started doing the intermittent fasting sort of by accident during the pandemic. Wearing a mask all day really cut down on mindless snacking. ;) Once I got into the routine of letting myself feel real hunger between meals, I tend to crave healthier food.
I think fasting of any kind makes you realize just how much we eat just from boredom, stress, or habit. AAAND now I’m hungry…

See you over on the knives and food thread, I guess :D.

There’s so much info. out there today, it can be confusing at best.
My middle daughter loves Noom, I don’t have a smart phone, so I’m out of luck there.
GOLO is what I use. These are not fad programs, but lifestyle approaches.
Of course GOLO has its products to hawk, but there’s a wealth of planning and strategic info. not just for weight loss.
The recipes alone are invaluable to me. They Include carnivore thru vegan.
It‘s free too.

My first Lenten meatless meal. I'll do my best to follow my religions guidelines, regarding fasting and abstinence. That's a slice of eggplant in the pic, not a sausage patty! :D

Thanks Charlie, I appreciate the support folks :) Maybe I'll even lose some weight :D
You'll have to change your Avatar to Skinny Jack!!! 😄

When I went for Basic training, in the US Army, my first drill sergeant said, If I didn't lose weight, I'd be in Basic the rest of my life!!!
I absolutely gave up all Pasta, Bread and Potatoes and Gravy!!
With heavy exercise, I went from 235 to 190!!! In 10 weeks!!!
Won first (fastest) in the Low Crawl out of 112 men!!🦀

I'm a grazer, I graze on snacks throughout the evening. I realize its mostly just habit formed from boredom. Having cut my sugar intake to basically nil,I can tell you sugar withdrawal is real. In just six days by kicking high carb foods and sugar drinks, and the medication they gave me my blood sugar went from 300 Friday to 115 before lunch today! Eating breakfast lunch and dinner instead of 1 or 2 meals a day and then snacking really helps in maintaining a good sugar level. And now if I feel likeva snack I have an apple or a some nuts. So far it really hasn't been hard to switch to a healthier diet, Google is my friend in that regard. I research EVERYTHING lol,I learned about calculating net carbs. I've just turned onto this so I'm still learning, but the best thing I've learned so far is I can eat amazing food thats healthy food.

I used to do the same David, and until I was 50, I was pretty slim, so didn't see a reason to change, but I began suffering with terrible acid reflux, and some other stomach problems, and eating earlier, (as well as some common medication), has stopped that, thankfully :) Well done my friend :)

Mmm sounds good..I'll have one of those..Oh Waiter make that two...errr mmmm and a side order of Ann Kornikovas please.
Yummy yum yum.
But seriously folks...
All this talk of carbs...when you look at the label..ignore the "per serving" number.. instead look at the "per 100ml" ...the lower the better. Then theres GI but thats another story.

True for the 100ml for me it's sodium.

I have always gotten the impression that you’re the selfless type, so if you consider that the longer you can keep yourself healthy, the longer you can be of benefit to those around you, it might help motivate you to beat this new challenge

Couple of nice IXLs Dwight but I don't think I would wear those boots " On a Dare in the dark "

Harry
Hahaha! That's funny my friend. Nor would I. They belong to Cherri. ;)
Thinking of going vegetarianish for Lent! What you reckon folks, month is a long time, could I manage it?!:oops::D:thumbsup:
Jack my suggestion is that you seek advice on the matter from Toolman. I'm sure he will be quite helpful as your coach and trainer being that he is a paragon of discipline.

I'll bear it in mind Dwight! :D ;)

I shared this over in the Guardians thread, but thought it might be of interest to some of you who don’t frequent that thread. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has an EagleCam livestream that monitors a nesting pair of bald eagles. There’s some information here (including occasional text updates):

…and the livestream on YouTube is here:

Good job! I used to be a grazer as well.

When I determined that I just had to lose the weight for my daughter's wedding (9 months), I started fasting between dinner at night until breakfast the next day; and that's when my weight loss really kicked up. I found that chewing some cinnamon gum or Mentos watermelon gum if I had a sweet tooth would help curb my appetite, as well as drinking a lot of Le Croix sparkling water and tea in the evenings. I had to strictly fast between meals, or I could not drop a pound even with excess exercise. I could have a small desert with dinner, but not after my fast started.
