The saga of Tom’s kitchen remodel continues…

The handyman finally wrapped up his work last Thursday, and except for a couple of minor things all seems well with his work, especially considering the price. Plus he was pleasant company while he was here.

The appliances, on the other hand, are giving me fits. I had to run around like crazy a couple of weeks ago to get them ordered and delivered within a reasonable time frame, and they finally showed up today. Of the three appliances delivered, a grand total of ZERO function properly 🤣.

The washing machine made horrible rattling noises and smelled like burning rubber when the delivery guy tested it, so he had to put it back on the truck and order me another. He already had my old one on the truck, so I said forget it, I can wash my clothes in the bathtub again for a week if I have to, no problem.

After he left I noticed a rattling noise from inside the gas stove as I walked past it. I opened the oven and noticed the broiler rack was in there on top of the oven rack - not installed underneath in the broiler. No problem, just put the broiler rack where it goes. Except it doesn't fit because the brackets that hold it are bent and the enamel is cracked. Further inspection revealed that the whole bottom right side of the stove is bent out of shape and the broiler door is crooked. :(. Half an hour on the phone with customer service and I arranged delivery of a new unit at the end of the month. They said I could use the one I have in the meantime, so again, no problem ?.

Later in the day, my wife comes home and notes that nothing in the fridge seems very cold. As far as I can tell there is no air circulation in it, just some kind of passive cooling going on. Freezer works fine. TWO HOURS ON THE PHONE later and there is no service call available until the end of the month, and no replacement for a couple of weeks. The customer service lady ordered me a mini-fridge to use in the interim, and gave me a gift card to pay for it.

First World problems, I know. If you attempted to count all your blessings, you would never be able to. Conversely, most of us could probably count our problems on our fingers. I have to admit I was pretty aggravated, though .

Bought a new refrigerator a few years ago. Top brand. Not a cheapie.
1) open freezer door. No lights. Open cooler door. No lights. But open both doors and both sets of lights go on. Figured out that they cross wired it. So opening the freezer would turn on the cooler lights. Opening the cooler would turn on the freezer lights. After three service calls they decided it could not be fixed and 6 weeks later they got us a new unit.
2) After a couple of days with the new unit, it stopped cooling.
3) first attempt to fix the service person just used normal freon instead freon with marker in it. So worked for a couple days then stopped cooling and no clue where it was leaking
4) second attempt, they put in tracer compound with the freon and tightened all the connections. Worked a couple of days then warm.
5) Found the pinhole leak due to the tracer. Had to order a part. Wait for part.
6) replaced part. Now we got cool and we got lights. Victory? Not yet.
7) a month later the ice maker stopped working
8) first service call. Ah. Need new part. It'll take a couple of weeks to get it.
9) Another service call. Replaced the part. Test the unit. Won't make ice. Time to call reinforcements.
10) Another service call from a higher ranking tech. Ah. Need to replace the door. We are told it will be a 3 month wait for new door.
11) 3 months later. No door. Called factory. No order for door. No doors in stock.
12) Back to repair house. They suggested we file a lemon law claim. We did. Got our money back.
Status: We still use the same refrigerator. It does not make ice. But at the end of the day, it was free.
True story.

J Just Tom.
Tom, I'm keepin' my fingers crossed for you.

:(

My old fridge started leaking water.
It went down stairs to end its days as the laundry beer fridge.
When I got the new one home I found it did not have adjustable shelves.!!??...couldnt stand a stubbie up. I rang the the store..told them I hated it and they swapped it for a fifferent better one..and more money.
Who the f@$! makes fridges with fixed shelves?

I bought a new fridge last year. The old one was 28 years old. It still worked, but it ran too often. Since I got the new one, stuff stays fresh a lot longer, especially vegetables, so while the old was working, it wasn't working well. It was an easy purchase. I have a width constraint and Lowes only had two that would fit in the space and I didn't care for one of them :)

Yeah, what I've saved on fridges, I've probably lost on electricity bill! :D

A friend in Sheffield still has the freezer my grandmother bought around 1970!

Not really a true knife post, so I figured this was the spot! My son and I were hiking on Sunday and he packed along his wooden bowie knife. I believe I got it at the Fort Boonesborough when I was about his age. He was ready for anything we may have encountered.

Some of those freezers last a long time. My parents used a chest freezer into the 2010's, that my grandparents bought in the early '60s or maybe late '50s. It was there when I was a little kid.

Wow, that's really cool  My grandmother's was a small, square one, she got it just before the boom for big chest freezers started here. After she passed away, my mother had it as a spare freezer, down the cellar. Then later, I had it for a while, and gave it away to my pal, who still uses it to keep his fishing bait in :D
