"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Inspired by FarmKid's "Comfort Knife" thread here, I'd like to know what other gear you have that fits the bill as a "comfort" item.

Me, I have a pair of elk skin Dan Post boots that I got in the early '90s. They're pretty beat up. They've been re-soled once and are about ready to need it again. But they're comfortable as all get-out and I wouldn't get rid of them for anything (much to my wife's chagrin).

What about you guys?

Pair of old carhartt carpenter pants that has patches and the crotch has been sewed up but they are my favorite pants. Also a pair of red wings that is just wore out.

A no name Walmart brand blue plaid Mackinaw style coat (just remembered, it is Faded Glory). The stuffing is coming out, it has been a makeshift mat a couple times for dogs when they were fighting over their beds (since washed of course). Buttons are missing, the main zipper is still intact thankfully. It is my outside work coat, for cold weather, only surpassed by my Carharrt parka, when the Carharrt is out, it is COLD. Like the bitter cold MD is experiencing this week, might be considered balmy by some of you. .

The other comfort item I always have is my medicine, made by my father for me. It contains my baby sister's rosary, she died of SIDS when I was about 9. It also has a bit of the family horses hair from their tails and manes. It also contains some mementos of my pups.

I guess I have some comfort shoes. Pull on oxfords from Timberland, with a steel toe. This pair is scuffed heavily, and I need to polish them up, they are work shoes (I work in an office :(). Anyway, I had a pair on when I was in an accident, and they saved my foot from being amputated. The brake or clutch pedal was embedded in the steel toe. I bought two pair of these shoes my first week driving my new truck.

When I was a child, I had this sort of tartan flannel plaid/blanket that fulfilled my winters and kept me warm, giving me more than just warmth, a bit like Linus I would say.
I still have it...and it still gives me comfort.

Kevin, once I thought I would ask you for sharpening lessons...but my sharpening skill is slowly improving, so I will swap that for a chat about photography.
I love your new CR picture, also because, having my feet in the same sea right now, I can feel the picture alot more than if I were in my place in Sardinia.

Fausto

I had no doubt you would get the sharpening it easy.

So is photography, but I love chatting about either.

Kevin

Another comfort item for me is my wrist watch. No particular model, I just sometimes look at it and it gives me some comfort. I have had a watch on since I was maybe 9 or 10 and feel off if I don't have one on me.

Just looking at page 1 of Traditional today, and there are currently no less than 5 giveaway threads, plus a resurrected giveaway thread to say thanks :) What a great place, and of course there's all the other generosity that absolutely radiates from this place :)

Who's written books in here? I know that some of our esteemed knife nuts have written a few knife books, the first that comes to mind is the Case price guide. A local bookstore was going out of business, and one of the books I picked up, by chance, was this one.

I hope I am not stepping on any toes by requesting user name information, or if anyone makes the connection that Steve Pfeiffer is so and so. I am sure it is common knowledge here, and I knew at one time. I know there are other books out there, and that several of the members here write for Knife World, Tactical Knives, Blade and Knives Illustrated.

Watch out Kevin those monkys will bite your face of......
I think that's just homeless guys in Florida. ;)

Beautiful pics, Kevin. Thanks so much for posting. Makes me wish I were back in Miami (just went down to visit the in-laws earlier this month). :)

Kevin, thanks for those pics. As great as always :)

This is the sun in Costa Rica... looks great, especially I haven´t seen the sun for almost a couple of days. Snow & fog etc etc winter just winter :grumpy:

I just came back from my grandma´s 88th birthday. I had about oneandahalf litre applewine which my uncle made for himself. A great stuff.

Grandma told me again several stories about her youth while she was doing her duty in German Airforce (Luftwaffe) through WWII. She´s still as good as possible and has a positive mind about life in general. She´s a widow for almost nine years now. She´s just my granny....

Took the pic today of me and my beloved grandma...
