That sounds like a drastic measure, Jack!Three of my lower back teeth are missing now, so I hope it's not going to interfere with my eating. I have one eye on an overseas dental 'holiday'!![]()

You could get the other end reconfigured there too!Im hearing how much cheaper it is to fly to Thailand to get major dentristry done JBJack Black ....they charge like wounded bulls here...Thailand or Nam are reported to be better and far less expensive....and that includes airfare...
Around here a lot of folks slip over the border to Tijuana to get that done. Cheaper than a jet flight, for sure.Im hearing how much cheaper it is to fly to Thailand to get major dentristry done JBJack Black ....they charge like wounded bulls here...Thailand or Nam are reported to be better and far less expensive....and that includes airfare...
You're not wrong, my wifes uncle flew to Thailand, had extensive dental work done by top rate dentisits, as part of a ten day holiday , and it still cost less than having one thing done back in New ZealandIm hearing how much cheaper it is to fly to Thailand to get major dentristry done JBJack Black ....they charge like wounded bulls here...Thailand or Nam are reported to be better and far less expensive....and that includes airfare...
I'm glad you have enough function left to eat and enjoy!!The lesson here is x-rays

Thanks for the advice Ed, after my recent experiences, there's not much I WOULDN'T believe about dentists!I've got eight teeth left - all uppers on the right side. I'm not eligible for false teeth anchored by studs because I have severe bone loss throughout my lower jaw. The jaw has been reconstructed and is held in place with a titanium plate while the bone fragments (taken from a leg bone (fibula)) mend/weld together. Once you have teeth pulled, the bone loss begins where the tooth/teeth were pulled from. I'm 80 and to me it's not worth the effort to be able to chew all the things I want to. As long as my swallow is functioning, I get along fine chewing/gumming my food. I can't chew a steak but because of the way the grain runs in a pot roast or a corn beef, I can chew/gum them with good results.
The lesson here is x-rays. Make damn sure you have enough bone left in your jaw in order to provide a solid anchor for studs. That might sound like "who the hell wouldn't verify that there is enough bone to anchor a stud" but do enough digging and you'll find instances of it. You'd think that a dentist would surely check and recheck it but that's not always the case.
This is me after mouth/gum/jaw, cancer. Eight teeth and a titanium plate anchored with twelve titanium screws holding my new jaw bone in place while the bone mended/welded together. The plate of course is permanent.

Good advice Gary!Back in the early 1980s, I was going to this hack dentist who was telling me to rinse my mouth with some over-the-counter solution to eliminate a problem with bleeding gums. I decided I needed a new dentist and was subsequently referred to a periodontist. After 4 visits, a lot of pain, and shelling out 6K (current dollars), the problem was resolved.
The dentist I have now says whatever I'm doing keep doing it. I have 2 caps that need replacing but other than replacing a few fillings and some other minor work I'm in good shape. Hope it continues.
The moral of the story is Don't neglect your choppers when you're young!![]()
They've quieted down a lot around here the last week or so. At least they don't bite or give you diseases. Not to derail away from dental care and the lack thereof, but you guys reminded me I need to make a checkup/cleaning appt…
Over here, the Cicadas rule the woods.

We had a visit in 2018 from the Onondaga Brood VII. The highest concentration was on the Onondaga Nation, near Syracuse, NY. We're just north of there on Onondaga Hill. We had them everywhere on our property. I found places where they had come up from underground and shed their exoskeletons' on nearby tree branches. Here's one that I managed to keep, along with a pair of wings. They've quieted down a lot around here the last week or so. At least they don't bite or give you diseases.
