Our town is a small town - just at 2,000 and our county while quite big has a population of just under 10,000. We have one blinking red traffic light at the intersection of two major roads - California State Highway 299 which runs East to West across the state and U.S. Federal Highway 395 which runs South to North from the Mexico border to the Canadian border. Why I am telling y'all about this? Because that's why I think Tesla has installed nine (9) fast chargers for E-Vehicles in our town - two major highways that are heavily traveled.
To get to the nut of it, seven (7) of those Tesla fast chargers are installed at the Holiday Market Grocery Store. When Cindy and I pulled in to the Holiday Market yesterday, there was a Tesla E-Vehicle backed into one of the charger stations and standing around it were three guys - Kenny the best mechanic in our town with one of his mechanics and a guy in khaki shorts wearing a Hawaiian print floral shirt. Standing off to the side was the family of the guy in the khaki shorts and Hawaiian print floral shirt. The guy in the khaki shorts and Hawaiian print floral shirt and his family had been charging their car for about two hours and when they all piled into their car to leave, the car wouldn't go. They tried and tried by no go. One of our police officers put them onto Kenny the mechanic and Kenny couldn't get it to go either - had no clue as a matter of fact. They even called Tesla but even with trouble shooting ideas from Tesla it was still a no go.
The closest Tesla Service Center to us is in Reno, Nevada - 200-miles away. And our town tow truck charges $10.00 a mile for a tow. The guy in the khaki shorts and Hawaiian print floral shirt and his family didn't have an emergency highway plan for towing, out of gas, low battery, etc. problems so they were in for an expensive ride to Reno. The last I heard the Tesla was headed to Reno on the back of a flat bed tow truck with the guy in the khaki shorts and Hawaiian print flora shirt and his family following along in a car rented from Kenny. That's an expensive break down - $2,000 for the tow and a rental car fee. Yikes!!!
I'm just gonna stick to internal combustion engines in all our vehicles. At least there's a fighting chance to get one started in case of a break down.
