I look at the huge number of beard oils, balms and other manscaping unguents ,lotions and potions at the supermarket
....and I am transported to a world of W.C. Fields with a travelling medicine show wagon...city slicker waistcoat and spats...cashing in on the gullibillity of illiterate hayseeds clad in overalls ...the hillbillys with hipster beards that look exactly like todays.... hipsters.
It never occurred to me to oil my beard any more than it occurred to me to oil my hair 🛢️

And BTW, us hillbillies were there first. Durn hipster posers

Every aspiring sith lord needs a good beard balm.
Yep me earlier this year. What annoys me is so much dearer to buy Australian made brands 🤬

Hate to tell you, but you wasn't ;)

Psalm 133:2 (KJV)

It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, Even Aaron's beard: That went down to the skirts of his garments;

I saw a few posts earlier about some missing long-time regulars. I hope everyone is OK. I don't post much and am certainly not one of the more beloved or active members, but I still do stop by from time to time.

This is a very busy season at work for me (I work in enterprise tech support for Santa's elves) so I haven't even had time to check in recently, but I wanted to stop by and wish everyone a good holiday season and hope you all get to spend some time with friends, family, or even just one day of relaxing peacefully.

If anyone remembers me, I am still alive and still have every knife (though one of my Case Trappers has gone walkabout), and my old standby Case Small Texas Jack is sitting right in front of me on the desk. This one:

For clarification - that is not my desk, it is a rock.

You'll always be beloved John! :D ;) Glad you're doing OK my friend, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas :)

Well it's Monday here. Christmas is near.
Been a high, low year for us.
The kids turned 21 &18 this year😘 that brings a lot of joy, although grow up quick.

As some of you might know my step dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, fortunately he is still with us & doing much better than any 1 expected, I'm pretty close to him, he taught me how to sharpen and gave me my first pocket knife.
In March the brother in laws wife was diagnosed with liver cancer and passed away in September, actually chose voluntary assisted death.
The end of September a phone call from my Step mum, had to call ambulance for Dad, spent a 3 days in the ICU and another 4days in the ward with viral pneumonia, just over a week from when he got out, he turned 80 the same day my daughter turned 21. He still on the mend.
3 weeks ago an Uncle had a kidney removed due to cancer, they also think he has Parkinson's.
Friday an Aunt had a mild stroke.
This morning I got call from Mum, looks like she has RSV, so cancelling or postponing events with them.

But saying all this I am still fortunate, my wife and kids are good, my health is not to bad at the moment.
So I would like to wish all my BF friends a very Merry Christmas and Santa brings them something sharp!❤😁

Wow Mitch, that's a lot to deal with in a short time. Glad you're staying positive. Really what else can one do? Merry Christmas to you and yours mate 🎅

Sorry to hear that Mitch...talk about when it rains it pours....good too know you are keeping up spirits.
Meanwhile the demons of Xmas past
has shrunk down to a miniature...a lot like Daffy Duck in the Ali Baba Bunny cartoon.....the 2 inch cockroach of 2018 has been replaced by something else which I hope to see very soon or better still xmas morn1000023238.jpg
There are 2 wallabies with little Joeys in pouch residing in my garden...looking forward to seeing them scamping around soon.
Now as the season to be jonny cranks into top gear I am utterly sick of hearing Mariah,Bing,Frank,Deano and the rest crooning about snowflakes glistening on reindeers stockings and puddings stuffed with shepherds and wise men gathering round yuletide cbestnuts in royal David city.....ITS MIN TEMP 28DEG C...ranging up to 34....its humid....we need ice to make things cold and we definitely do not want any hot roasted bird...
So I Make it snow....1000023235.jpg
Put that in the eggnog and smoke it Bing.
To all Porchenbergers and Families Please have the best Xmas Ever and a happy and safe 2025. ✌️🖖

On this date exactly 10 years ago, I flew to Spain to visit my daughter who lived in Madrid at the time. I was there for almost 3 weeks, and she took me to 6 Spanish cities; I think I have a souvenir knife from each city I visited. It was a wonderful trip of a lifetime for me!

But perhaps even better in the long run, before I went to the airport that Christmas Eve day, I smoked a last cigar, and that was the last time I've used tobacco, after smoking for 45 years. I'm VERY glad I was able to quit for good that time (except for cigars that I STILL smoke in my dreams every now and then).

Spanish knives from that memorable trip:

Happy Christmas to all, and I hope 2025 is a great year for you!

In the spirit of the season, I dub thee: Darth Santa. That is your Sith lord name!

Happy holidays everyone! Christmas and Hanukkah apparently are on the same day this year, so Merry both of those to all who observe them. And happy Wallaby day to Meako, in the sweltering south.

I hope the other Santa (not the evil one pictured above) brought everyone something shiny!

He decided I needed a good cold or the flu. Feels like one of those or their kin is setting up residence in my head and throat today. Tomorrow morning will tell the tale. Stuffy head, few aches beyond the normal ones from being an old guy.

Ironbut Ironbut -Love the Christmas tree decorations, especially the live one! That is one charming little kitten.

Thank you & I hope you feel better soon jc57 jc57 .

In addition to the artsy ornaments my wife's collected over the years, we have ones with the pictures of all our current & previous pets. The pic of the live ornament is a few years old. I was sitting in my chair reading & out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw the Christmas tree moving. Naaaah! I just happened to have my cell phone next to me, and got the pic.

This is a more recent one of her, sitting on top of the pantry, plotting world domination.
