Why didn't they just lay mines for the buggers ??🤣
It would certainly make harvesting the wheat more exciting.
A number of reasons Will.
1.they probably didnt have any.And too expensive.
2.Mines would blow up too much of the struggling wheat crop for 1 Emu.
3.Its waaay more fun to have your mate shoot at them with a Lewis gun resting on your shoulder next to your ear.🤔

Yeah, that machine gun on the shoulder made me wonder if that guy could ever hear out of that ear again 😱

You would be able to hear the gun if you listened in his other ear....😆
Lets face it ...Australians are noted for mismanagement of wildlife....currently the hotbed is the shooting of feral horses in the fragile Snowy Mtns wilderness...of course the Bunnies....then foxes, cats, wild dogs, goats etc etc....But The Emu War is on another level of braindeadness. These "invaders" were there a long time befote the genius who planted all the wheat...or as it is sometimes known "delicious Emu food" ...what did they think would happen? ....search up Aussie Mouse Plagues....because thats what we know happens now...I only know of one place where this kind of thing happened worse...yes of course...its New Zealand.

Astoundingly and shamefully the maniac in charge of the emu disaster compared Emus to the Zulu..😲

For what it’s worth, eastern North Americans all but wiped out the gray wolf. Now we have coyote/wolf hybrids.

It’s what people do- observe a problem and solve it with obliteration, only to create a new problem. Its idiocy.

Yes but your Pathé news reader's clipped accent (eksent) would surely approve of mines as being 'more sporting' and giving the Emu a sporting-chance ;)

Anyway, it would be fairer and more interesting in a Russian Roulette way to use mines 🤣 a level playing field if you like  Let's go harvesting...... After all, the Emu were here first (since when did that bother invaders of the hom-sap variety?) and anyway, wheat has caused all sorts of people to be triggered by gluten allergy ;)

Meanwhile, here and in Sweden, the law has allowed a big increase in Wolf hunting. They've become the bogeyman of all in the usual media campaign of lies&simplification hysteria. Last person to be killed by a Wolf? Probably in the mid c19th. Livestock you say, well yes of course some but most of the sheep deaths are actually by dogs allowed to roam about illegally. Anyway, because the forest monopolist company/ies are hell bent on felling everything these past few years, Wolf habitat has been reduced and Elk (Moose to you) populations have also been greatly reduced, thus Wolves begin to be seen more, or allegedly so by the media. I met a Wolf by chance on a forest track, a wonderful moment- we both remained calm only a couple of metres apart. I realized it was no dog as it didn't behave like one - no barking, friendliness or aggression, tail wagging, teritorial behaviour or noises. It just looked at me, I remained still and silent, it then crossed the track, looked over its shoulder at me then disappered totally silently into the forest at great speed, then I knew. Dogs make a fair bit of noise when going into that type of forest, excitement or crashing about, this Wolf was quiet as a Cat in movement, a magical thing. But looks like this is another uncommon predator that some people would like to near exterminate under the guise of safety.

Hello Porchenburgers,

I wanted to share that I was burglarized this past weekend. Unfortunately they made off with tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff (the problem with collecting things that can be seen as portable wealth, is that people can port your stuff away). The big dollar items were mostly firearms, and the ATF is investigating, so I am holding on to hope for recovery. Especially since we found out that we missed the fine print in our insurance that lost/stolen firearms reimbursement is capped at $3,000 (which covers 10-15% of replacement cost). But the Porch relevant part of the burglary is that they stole my swords and four of my knives. None of the swords are particularly valuable, they were just wall hangers. The knives they took are harder to replace though. Please pardon the non-traditional character of most of them, I just wanted to as folks to keep an eye out if they see them up for sale anywhere.

Be safe out there. And here's a reminder to try to limit knowledge of where you keep your portable wealth. They had to break into the back door of my garage, into a lockbox, and then into my gun cabinet. I/the police/the ATF all figure that someone had to know where my stuff was to pull off the burglary. We've been remodeling our house, and there have been a lot of crews working over the last several months. As far as I know, only one crew ever saw me actually take a firearm into the garage. But it feels like that may have been one too many. But maybe it was someone else poking around. Maybe someone said something to a druggy friend. Who knows? It will make it hard to trust folks in the future.

I've already upgraded my physical security, and will be doing more going forward. But you can only make yourself so hard of a target. Anonymity is the best defense, and I clearly was not as anonymous as I had thought.

Has there been any progress in the catching of the people who did this abbydaddy?

The Eugene Police Department is sadly understaffed and overloaded, and they have not assigned a detective to my case. They seem to be currently focused on the burgling ring that has been targeting Asian families here in town. Apparently my burglary hasn't been a priority.

The good news is that the ATF is continuing to work the case. One of the advantages of having a C&R License is that when my guns get stolen, it gets the feds involved. I had kind of accepted that all my stuff was lost and gone forever, but the ATF has been keeping in touch, and so I have a glimmer of hope.

That is a sad tale with just a small light at the end of the tunnel. A college town has such a great turnover, must be hard for the police but you would think that by now a detective would be helping you. My heart goes out to you My Friend.

Does anybody remember this old gag business card making the rounds back in the '80s?
I got a copy from a friend of my dad's and cobbled this up. I found it the other day while going through my junk looking for something. Too bad it doesn't include "knives collected"!
It always got a laugh!
Cracks me up!

Do we have people in charge. I could of sworn it was Brains. I just can't tell the difference 🤔

I was at Tractor Supply today & ran across an Uncle Henry straight razor shaving kit for $19.99. The one pictured here isn't the one that was in the kit that I saw. That one had a disposable razor. As you can probably guess, for $20 it was really cheap looking. I didn't get one, but I sure didn't expect to see this at Tractor Supply.:)

The guy that bought one and left a review was not a happy camper.

I was surprised to learn that we sell "Beard Balm" at Lowe's.

I saw a few posts earlier about some missing long-time regulars. I hope everyone is OK. I don't post much and am certainly not one of the more beloved or active members, but I still do stop by from time to time.

This is a very busy season at work for me (I work in enterprise tech support for Santa's elves) so I haven't even had time to check in recently, but I wanted to stop by and wish everyone a good holiday season and hope you all get to spend some time with friends, family, or even just one day of relaxing peacefully.

If anyone remembers me, I am still alive and still have every knife (though one of my Case Trappers has gone walkabout), and my old standby Case Small Texas Jack is sitting right in front of me on the desk. This one:

For clarification - that is not my desk, it is a rock.

I remember you! Good to hear from you. It is always nice to hear from folks you've had good interactions with.

It's funny, I don't think of myself as an old timer on bladeforums, but I have been realizing lately that I have actually been hanging around here for more than a decade. Time goes by fast.

One of the old regulars I miss is EyeDog EyeDog (although I guess he actually joined not long before I did). Mike gave me the first traditional I had as an adult (I had a number as a boy, but lost them all). He hasn't posted on Bladeforums in half a decade, but he gave me some good deals over the years, and was always a pleasure to interact with. I'm pretty sure he is fine since he is a pastor and fairly public, so I can see he is still making posts on social media.

I always enjoy seeing your cat avatar (and you posting, of course!)
