"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

The Outlaw Josey Wales is based on a book called Gone to Texas....some description of horse management in there.
Also if you can get...The Dog And Lemon Guides...independant reviews of cars...and some great history of the automotive industry...some pertaining to USA...Horses as transport for huge populations...Not good....

Late catching up on the thread - sorry to hear about Crucible. I think they were the producers of some of Case's CV steel at one time or another. Just kind of hate to see those "companies that have been in business for a long time that you knew and trusted" close up shop news items. I guess nothing stays around forever. I am fond of Case CV steel. Feels like an old friend. I like their SS, too, but there is something special about that CV - the color, the feel of it when you run your fingers along the flat of the blade.

Groundhog Day was yesterday. It was sunny here, so we get 6 more weeks of winter. Highs are in the 60s and 70s this week, with even an 80 forecast by Friday. I am no weather expert, but that's not quite wintry weather, even here in the mid-south. I'll take it, though. I need to get out and get some exercise.

I was doing pretty good with that late in the year, but I've been sick with one thing or another for about the past 6 weeks and had to stop, or else the weather was horrible on those days in between maladies. I'm finally feeling better and want to get back to some nice walks around the block, so some early summer is OK by me.

[Nothing major for those worried, just several unrelated things kind of coming along back to back before I'd get over the prior thing.]

I've ordered a new water bottle, in armored borosilicate glass. There wasn't any water in our fridge at work yesterday, and bad things can happen when I desiccate.
And after I get through spinning around finding documents to send to an authority, maybe I can get back to exercising, too. Almost done.

I took and kept a lot of pics of my new Mexican Bowie, so here it is again.

We're gearing up here in northwest PA for maple syrup season. I'm hoping the weather stays cold a bit longer. I don't like tapping the trees this early, as the sap is weaker and it take more to get the same amount of finished syrup.

Dad had a full hip joint replacement in mid January, so his help this year will be mostly sitting in a chair telling me what I'm doing wrong while I run around. I think we're going to reduce volume this year by about 50% in an effort to keep me from losing my mind and throwing out my back. Fingers crossed we won't have to tap the trees until end of Feb.

Hope you have a good season. Our son has about 10 acres of woods in Southern Ohio, and he made his first batch a couple years ago. It turned out pretty good. We have some Amish kids that tap the trees around us here, and their old man makes the syrup. That's where we get ours, but we only go through about a half gallon a year.

Fairly normal sized teeth, Gary; and those magic words, "Look Ma, no cavities!!!"
😁

Fishing is all about timing. I used to time them okay, but now it seems my timing is off.:)

you putting gold in there right? last time i jokingly asked my dentist after my cleaning and check up hypothetically how much it would cost for a gold tooth and she said around $3000:eek:

Gold is high right now!!!
$2,886.10 an ounce, went up another $9 and something today. I bought some a few years ago and have already more then doubled my money 😍 It’s going to keep going up to I think, I bet in 5 more years it’s around $5000 an ounce. 😱
