"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I did the 🤣 for this, because its kind of funny, then realized I was laughing and the guy was dead 😬
Still funny in a dark, depraved kind of way 🙃
Which is probably appropriate when referencing a Taratino film ;)

whats funny is, i literally said this out loud in my lab and my iphone actually did play it. it was a slow day in the clinic

Our second Great-Grandchild was born at 8:30 AM, Pacific time, on Canada Day!!
Congrats, Charlie!:thumbsup::cool: I'm sure all your grandchildren are great, too, but then you've got more great grandchildren than just 2; blood relatives are so confusing!o_O:rolleyes: Anyway, congrats for all the progeny growing off your branch of your family tree.

Speaking of generations and congratulations for birthdays, today is the 249th birthday of the USA!:thumbsup::cool:
Did you realize that if a male were born on July 4, 1776 and then fathered a son born exactly 83 years later, and then that son, at age 83, fathered a son (or daughter) of his own who also lived to be 83, those 3 generations combined would have witnessed the entire national history of the USA up to today?
Unlikely, since not a lot of 83 year olds are having kids, but it could have happened! 😲🤓

It doesn't quite make it to what you describe, but 10th president John Tyler was born in 1790, had a son (Lyon) in 1853, who had a son (Harrison Ruffin Taylor) in 1928 (who just died earlier this year). I believe that Harrison Ruffin Taylor, Jr. is still alive.

I have been lucky enough to trace my ancestors back to coming to what is now the U.S.A. to the early 1700's . My generation is the 9th and we have added 3 more generations and my wife's family was here about 100 years earlier .

america's founding stock?! i had a class in hs with a kid whose family goes back to the mayflower landing!

My family came in the late 1800s, but established the first pasta factory in North America!!
Falls Macaroni in Niagara Falls, New York. Established by the Riccelli family (Mom's side!).
They donated a 40 gallon barrel of broken pasta every month to the local Indigenous reservation during the "dirty '30s"!!

edited to add; Broken pasta was usually soaked, and added back into the "dough" mix, similar to what bakeries do today!!

I almost wish you hadn't posted your calculations - it got me to thinking and doing some calculations of my own. Turns out I've been around for almost exactly one third as long as the USA. (32.4%, to be exact.) Makes one feel sort of old, even if not mature.

That would make you also an Octogenarian .

Harry

True, but I wasn't going to get technical about it. Out of curiosity I went online and found the following in Merriam-Webster:
"Recent Examples of Synonyms for octogenarian: elderly, geriatric, senior, over-the-hill." Yep, that's me, all right.
Except for the Geriatric part , I resemble those Synonyms .
When the doctor says " You are in pretty good shape for the shape you are in" , I get a little worried .
