"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I'm sure meako meako had a thread about tins for storing stuff, but I can't find it.
I'm getting rid of some old ratty cardboard boxes, because "Dammit Jim, I'm a hoarder, not an archivist!"

Thank you Harry, felt Cripple Creek was an appropriate choice.

Thanks Charlie, just years of doing hard physical work with my hands, thumb joint was really worn and had severe trigger finger with a cyst in my ring finger.
I've got one of those darn "trigger" fingers!! Not severe enough to operate - yet!! I hope yours heals well!!

Calling back the helpful cat people,as I mentioned we were feeding a scrawny stray cat(I remember that band)actually 2 but we cut one off for not wanting the house to become stray cat alley and drive our mastiff crazy, anyway last week I saw two kittens come out at night with the one we were feeding, I thought it must be from a second litter of shem(named it shem because don't know if cat is male or female)but then last 2 nights the kittens have been laying with her in a spot we made in front away from our dog,my question is how can shem have kittens if she has no teets, the wife thinks because of malnutrition I don't know, but what I do know is one neighbor has already approached about wild cats around and I don't blame them.

not an expert, but I think the teats on cats are not as visible as those on a dog.

When we were getting acquainted with Kitty, we saw that she had a kitten. We made the feeding spot directly by our door. Kitty and kitten would come up to the door, Kitty would eat and the kitten would wander a bit. We waited until we were sure that the kitten was 6 weeks old. Then one morning at meal time my wife scooped up the kitten while Kitty was busy eating. My wife took the kitten out of sight. Kitty finished feeding, looked around, but wasn't terribly upset. We had already located a friend who was looking for a new cat, so we gave her the kitten. Shortly thereafter, we used a live trap to capture Kitty; and we took her to the vet be come an it. We had made prior arrangements with the vet, so it all went 1-2-3.

If you keep feeding a female cat, you will soon have kittens. Soon they will have kittens of their own. So my advice is one of the following options:
> stop feeding the cat so that it and the kittens go elsewhere,
> trap them and take them to the pound,
> or get the cat and the existing kittens neutered, unless you got a friend who wants a kitten.

Are plan is to keep feeding the mom and catch her and get her neutered,we already have a bed under porch that has a bit of heat coming from the house, the kittens well they have to go because nobody wants a bunch of feral cats on the street.and the pound charges to take them.

So Jer screened porch screened porch ...what are you doing with the stuff in the boxes?...I think you need new boxes .
The storage thread...I think it was someone else.....I use Plano tackle boxes for my pocket knives. The rest of my stuff I use the Total Chaos System ....👌
Funny. Maybe I can find the posts I made in that thread.
I'm putting my chessmen in tins and throwing out the sad old broken cardboard boxes they came in.

These sets are almost identical except for the pedestals, but not quite.

This is what I was thinking of. It was just a post in the What trad today thread.
Boker Barlow and a lovely old tin from the Queens Coronation and a better time and world.

No one else have a tin or two of interest to show us, even if it only holds nails or something? 🤭

Somewhere I have a Chuck and Di tea tin from the wedding. Probably in the garage.
These still have tea in them, and I'll keep them for tea that comes less well sealed.

The Walker's tin came from my cousin who was visiting from England.
I have a lot of the brown tins, which held the candies that a pastor i didn't know sucked to keep his vocal tract lubed. The tins were all empty, but he wasn't going to throw out perfectly good tins. (I'm reading his late mind here. I bought a box of the tins at his estate sale.)

I have a lot of Altoids tins somewhere, probably in the garage. I don't use them any more for brads and washers and such, because I have so many prescription pill bottles which close more securely and can be seen into so there's no need to label them.

Let me put it this way...I don't have pegboard with the outlines of tools on the garage walls.😎
Have no pegboards. Do have a couple of nails that I hang certain tools on.
But I've got a rollaway and two smaller tool boxes boxes. I pretty much know which tools are in which box, and which tools are in which drawer in the rollaway.
My knives are much less organized than my tools. I have to dredge for my knives.

My knives are pretty well organized. I have a Spyderco roll-up thingy for all my modern folders, and a Pelican case for the traditionals. Well, then there's the Opinel #08 on the desk, and an Opie #07 & Alox Electrician beside my easy chair in the living room.....and a few others laying around.

Tools? I've learned over the years that it's never wise to scrimp on tools. In addition to a nicely equipped woodworking shop, and every hand power tool that I've ever needed; I have well stocked tool kits in both the Jeep & my pickup. A few wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers in the tool box on the tractor. Tools hanging on hooks & nails in the pole barn. A large Craftsman box in the basement, and a bunch of handy tools in drawers in the living room & kitchen.

So, even though no matter where I am on the property, I'm never far away from the proper tools for the job, I'm still digging my Alox pioneer out of my pocket for tightening screws, light prying, starting screw holes in wood with the awl, etc. :)

I just discovered that spray-on sunscreen (in an aerosol can) removes tape gunk from knife blades effortlessly.

I could probably monetize that discovery by turning it into a youtube ad:
DON’T TRY THIS 30 SECOND AEROSOL SUNSCREEN HACK IF YOU ENJOY SPENDING HOURS CLEANING TAPE GUNK OFF OF YOUR KNIFE BLADES!!!

MY WIFE WAS DELIGHTED WITH ALL THE EXRA ATTENTION I WAS GIVING HER, NOW THAT THIS ONE SIMPLE SUNSCREEN TRICK FREED UP HOURS OF MY TIME!!!

WD-40.
I've used a hair dryer to remove decals on motorcycles. You know government warnings, like "failure to put feet down at stops may result in loss of stability resulting in injury or death"*
A little spritz of WD40 and the glue residue comes right off.

*I made that up, but it's not much of an exaggeration
