"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I got my Angelus Shoe Dye today. I wanted Burgundy, but Burgundy was $3 more expensive and would have taken much longer to arrive. Brick and Mahogany were pretty similar to Burgundy, and I went with Mahogany because the Brick had an orange cast to it.

I think this looks better than the wan and ghast original. ['ghast', archaic for 'ghastly'; deathlike, pallid, dismal.]

Thanks for the tip, Meako.

I think it looks better, too, Jer; IMHO it looks very good!:cool::thumbsup:
(I had to look up "glabrous", and having done so, I'll note that the dyed version is just as glabrous as the original, isn't it? ;))

I thought glabrous meant sickly white.
You got me. It is just as glabrous, which isn't awfully.
Fixed it.

I was first under the impression that I had to heat the water for the dye, even reheating in microwave which cost me over an hour to clean as well as having to hide another of the many dish clothes I have wrecked with dye or gun or reel oil,but now I don't tape the knife or anything I just dab the leather dye on clean bone and let it soak in,I have been darkening my 78 barlow marrow bone and adding red to it seeing it's a pattern I like carrying and have no other marrow bone in my collection.17531284280532039960834900196565.jpgthe other side is flat so I'm going to muck it up.

I usually like Case's red, but just never fell in love with this one, so after reading about it here, I got some Fiebing's dark brown leather dye a few months ago. I cleaned the knife good with alcohol, and before dying it I thought, "I'm either going like it, or I'm going to really sorry I did this."

After. I like the dark color better.
