I remember a tsunami warning back in Wollongong a couple of monts after Acheh....A busload from an old folks home went to CityBeach...and wheeled out to watch for it !!!....thatsThe Gong for you.
I was also checking one of the Honolulu TV stations. They showed a live camera shot of a bunch of people at the beach waiting to see the wave. Darwin in action. Or would have been if there had been a serious wave.

Yes it never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be. Unfortunately they put first responders at risk with their poor decisions.

Well it's good to see that a few canadian knife vendors are stocking up on case knives, just a few short years ago I had to buy from 1 of the 2 dealer's in the states,so liking the peanut I bought about 7 over a 3 year period, problem was it cost 48.00 for knife and 60.00 usd for shipping and customs, so a 150.00 cnd for the peanut.so good news for canadians and traditional knives.

We watch out for them pretty good in our neighborhood. If he wanders too far, all bets are off, though.
My mom had her house on a creek in manitoba which the deer would travel when it froze for the winter, when they came up onto her property they would shue them away with fire crackers, but after going to Hawaii for a holloday they returned to find all their cedars and willow trees stripped to nothing and thus freezing and causing them to die.safe to say they liked watching them at a distance lol.

The general success of my recent knife-dying job made me wonder if I should get some Grecian Formula for my grey temple. But do I really want strange young women coming to my door at all hours to literally borrow sugar?
Better than Bosley's hair restoration, though, which apparently makes young women groom your scalp like a bunch of chimpanzees.
No, I'm not getting old at all.

How's that for off-topic?

FYI, there is a good article about the history of Evan Nicolaides (ESNYX!!) as a knifemaker, in Knife magazine for August!!!
When he was still doing mods and handles, he put some nice checkered bone on this ancient, and gifted it back to me, back in 2015 - 2016!!Checked ancient 1.jpgBone checkered TC 2.jpg
I put that tiny chip in the end when I dropped it!! Otherwise the checkering is outstanding, right to the edges!!
I love this knife, and I carry it!!

I just read that the Royal New Zealand Air Force made a risky medical evacuation of some sick Americans in Antartica.
As an American I'd like to say thanks 🤝
That story caught my eye this morning. It sounded like a really high risk evacuation. Both for the air crew, and those on the ground who had to prepare a landing zone. Great job!:thumbsup:

Melissa Sweeney, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to New Zealand, praised the operation as "flawless."
"We are so very grateful. Our Kiwi partners didn’t hesitate to undertake this mission in one of the most unforgiving environments on Earth. Their skill and readiness are truly world-class," she said.
